No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

I went back to this last night after not playing for a couple of years.

christ ! i have no idea what i was doing, where i was going or anything. its going to take some time to get back into it i think. also, looks and ran pretty badly even on my 3090 rtx equipped machine (i only play in VR however on my quest pro)

Try using DLSS. I think that helped a lot on my PC version. In the graphics settings.

For some reason it runs badly on my set-up to.

Started a new game last night, but got annoyed by all the stuttering I'm getting. I don't recall it being like this the last time I played it back in June, which was before the latest big update so I'm wondering if that's got something to do with it. I'll have to experiment with some settings to try and eliminate it.

should i start a new save or will my current save get all the updates and planetary stuff without scrapping and starting again?
I resumed my game without issue, but a friend of mine with a much more advanced save is reporting that many of her bases are on planets which have changed, with various landscape issues (e.g. floating buildings etc.). If you're pretty invested in your current save, I'd load it up and at least see what state it's in. If you only have an hour or two in it, though, it might be worth starting a new one to avoid any weirdness.

I jumped through a black hole and leapt around several systems before realising there was a quest I needed to do in the original system. I have spent hours retracing my steps but seems unable to get back!

is it possible to start from scratch but keep my character progress (like the language stuff and maybe my mega ship etc?) or is it all or nothing?
(it has been many years since i played)
thanks

It's been a couple of years since I picked this up, and I was impressed then by the changes. Where this game really shines is in VR, if I get another headset I'd happily jump back in.

Looks really good. I did my usual and started a new game and stopped days later so wouldn't bother me starting again.

I believe you have to start everything from scratch because it's a new journey/traveller.

2500 hours in this game I have bases on beautiful planets in 14 systems but his update has destroyed them all....the game looks awesome but all that time and effort building bases etc etc seems wasted now :(

I have noted that mentioned already.
Did you use mods or was that with a vanilla game.?
Damn, that is bad if not recoverable.

no mods....just the planets drastically changed, I built bases with certain minerals etc etc my nanite base is now changed to a gold finger one so no nanites now...will have to find another one, I may just play the expeditions now, cant be bothered looking for things all over again

That's pretty bad that safeguards of existing already visited planets could not have been factored in the update.

For me it is typically the opposite. I get so far, wit ha much modded game and then updates hit. Then I wait until Lo2k has updated his mods and then off to recover, sometimes. Invariably I end up restarting due to some bigger mods adjusting too much on all the planets etc.
I'll need to try and not overly mod this time, a bit fed up of the early grind be repeated so often.

it would be nice if it were possible to start again from scratch with all your "broken" bases removed from the game....... but all the materials used to build said base and all other XP earned, language fragments or what ever were stored so that when you start again you have all your stuff and experience ready to be used on your new playthrough.

i take it there is no way to do that?

edit... sorry am going a bit Senile. Seems i already posted almost the same comment yesterday!.
