North Korea

Erm no, but what's your suggestion? Nuke them now, kill millions of innocent people? As long as we're alright?
For 60 years NK have not been in the position they now find themselves in. History is not necessarily a guide to the future. We need to keep trying to work with them, regardless of the past. THey now have the means to protect themselves and are more likely to be listened to. They could sit down with the other nuclear powers of the world, the position they were not in over the past.
If war comes, with use of Nukes, it goes to show how stupid we are as the human race.

I agree that there is no real positive outcome through military involvement but the tricky thing with NK is what do they want? Say all economic sanctions were lifted, they got to keep the nuclear weapons and treated as one of the big boys, what would they do? Live peacefully with the rest of the world and start to open up or be even more insular and push to unify Korea through force?

I don't know, I can see why the people would believe the US are oppressors as the damage that was done through bombing campaigns was incredibly extensive but it was NK that advanced over the 38th parallel last time and who knows if they'd try it again once they believe no-one can hit back.

Time to stop the talking. We need to take out North Korea, god knows how it is going to end up!
Start doing that and it may have consequences far beyond what you imagine. Want WW3? I believe Russia would be well up for causing additional trouble. China wont put up with any nonsense either. We cant go about destruction of another country and it's people due to our own fear weakness IMO..

Was talking to someone recently who was upset about Charlie Guard yet sees no problem with firing nukes into NK....go figure. People only care about what affects them, what they read about in the press. Innocent lives gone, some wont care as long as they don't get to see the pictures or hear the stories from distraught familities
Back to the talk of nuclear ambitions. Something also worth noting is that improvements in conventional weapons I believe has also come about due to nuclear technology. I remember I think Iraq War 2 where bombs were tipped with depleted uranium. Also I think grendades have seem improvements (but could be wrong).

If NK become H Bomb ready, surely that puts them on a different level. I doubt you can just start an invasion. Would the risk be too great?

I guess that is their end game. H bomb deterrent from invasion.

This is all China's fault. NK leadership should have been taken out YEARS ago and the Korean peninsula reunified. Look how prosperous SK is, millions of poor North Koreans would be so much better off if this had happened

Partly our fault too. Before the Korean war we sold jet engine technology to Russia, which advanced them by decades. Obviously they then sold it to China and it ended up being used in the Korean war.

Why are they suddenly going to become amicable to peaceful resolution now they have more powerful weapons than ever before?

It comes across as slightly naive to think NK are all of a sudden going to start working towards the "greater good". We're not all just going to get along, ever.

meh that will cost lots of our troops lives.

i think its better to carry on as we are and wait for regime change.

we're not in any immediate danger.

is a dog calmer when you stand back and give it plenty of room or when you've got in trapped ion a corner with no way out?

nukes give NK the peace of mind to say no without the risk of invasion or military force being used against them.

like we have done to

Iraq,
Syria
Afghanistan
Pakistan
Libya,

in the past decade...

They might even become more aggressive once they have a decent nuclear arsenal. They could push their luck even more thinking they can just threaten to nuke anyone who tries to stop them. South Korea will be at massive risk

Anyone else think it would have been smarter to take out North Korea BEFORE they developed a fully operational ICBM? Assuming this latest test is genuine.

Now its probably too late, without the risk of nuclear retaliation.

push their luck how exactly?

everything they do besides their nuclear weapons testing is all internal or extremely local.

once they have the weapons then the problem of them annoying everyone by developing them is gone too.

Same deterant all nuclear weapon owing
countries use...

Its all bs. Sword rattling. N Korea are just enemy of the decade like Islamic terrorism, making sure you pay your taxes and feel suitably scared to back war if someone's profit margins are reduced.

I'm sure kids in NK schools can look at charts of trident missile and ICBMs and are taught to fear American blood thirsty aggression.

Not really ever that simple, if anyone does anything to NK, other than total nuclear annihilation (which would make us worse than them) they flatten Seoul in 12 hours with thousands of conventional artillery pieces, followed by all out war and deaths of hundreds of thousands / millions.

Whichever way you turn, there's no simple or easy solution with a clear path - only China can really apply the right kind of pressure, but it's not doing enough.

It's tricky to take the moral high ground when using these types of disgusting indiscriminate weapons!

“The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health has just published an epidemiological study, “Cancer, Infant Mortality and Birth Sex-Ratio in Fallujah, Iraq 2005-2009,” which has found, among much else, that Fallujah is experiencing higher rates of cancer, leukemia and infant mortality than Hiroshima and Nagasaki did in 1945.”

The sooner DU weapons are banned the better!

No, because they've had hundreds of conventional guns trained on Seoul for a very long time now which if used would result in the death of many thousands. We are and have been in a stalemate, the only difference is the stakes are even higher now.

Apart from the fact the nuke fallout does not stay in the one position but drifts with the wind. So what you will do is contaminate S. Korea, parts of China and depending on the wind any number of other countries. Don't think they will thank you for that.
