NVIDIA 4000 Series

Yes you all got greedy with the 3080’s and 3090’s so wait your turn you naughty boys.

Also if any of you believe me and jedi I’ll start calling you all saying I’m your bank

From what we can see of the 4080 leaks the 12GB is on power with a 3090 and on average about 15% faster than a 3080 12GB, or 20% faster than the 3080 10GB. The 4080 16GB is ~50% faster than a 3080 10GB and 72% more expensive.

3080 10GB was $699 MSRP (availability aside)
4080 12GB is $899 MSRP

So an almost 30% increase in MSRP for 2 extra GB of VRAM and a ~20% increase in performance.

Frankly at that utterly turgid price/perf AMD don't need to beat the 76 billion transistor 4090 because the turgid overpriced muck that Nvidia are shovelling as their lower tiers is all they need to beat. And from the leaks given so far it is a very low bar indeed.

If I wanted 3090 performance I could get a used one for a lot less than a new 4080 12 GB. I think I can live without DLSS 3.0 thanks.

So can we please dispense with the idea that the only thing that matters is RTX 4090 vs 7900 XT because most of us are far more interested in the mid tier and it is clear Nvidia are fleecing us at the price/perf on offer. I have a sneaking suspision AMD will offer only marginally better price/perf.

Nvidia knew all people need is a reason to say "this is why its better and therefore worth more" sure enough that's exactly what people did and here we are....

Nvidia are quite clever but too many people are also not.

I assume it will be one per customer rather than not being able to buy one at all if you already purchased a 3000 series , it does have a note on the website saying they will be doing extra checks etc but nothing about having previously purchased a card .

Well they have to save space for the 4080ti 12gb and the 4080ti 16gb

For sure, but but that will come in at a price above the vanilla 4080's. and price wise, there is only couple hundred between the 4080-16 and the 4090 already. If the TI versions offer any real performance compared to 4090, then it again makes the vanilla 4080s that much more pointless as products.

Performance and specs clearly indicate that the 4080s are really the 4060ti and 4070 if past Nvidia products mean anything. Not sure if Nvidia are playing 4D chess here, or have just gone completely of the rails. They have made their only valuable product launch with a starting price of nearly 2k euro. Even then, it doesn't really compete with a 3090 for 700 euro. It's 1.5 to 1.7 times performance for nearly 3 times the money. While some will definitely jump on that - as they always were. Their never going to entice the folks that would normally buy 4070 or 4080 that perform worse than last gen for more money.

I can understand people buying the 4090 if monies no object and you just need/want the fastest that money can buy but honestly i feel like Nvidia are almost skipping this gen, or at least overpricing them in the hope of catching out the unaware, maybe they're just overpricing them while they trickle out the surplus 30 series that they've stockpiled and when they run out they'll drop 40 series prices. Or maybe they'll just rinse and repeat when the 50 series comes out, allowing just enough 40 series cards onto the market to maintain prices and stockpiling them so when they release the 50 series they can continue to drip feed the markets.

Not sure that makes sense much, i guess what I'm trying to say is it's almost like they're doing what De Beers did with diamonds, he'd buy up all the diamonds and only release a limited amount each year because he wanted diamonds to maintain their value.

Quite surprised at noise levels on the reviews. Always thought FE cards were the noisiest, well they might be but I mean I thought it would be worse than it was.

Feel like the webpage is trolling and this is the only time the buy button will appear but can’t click it

Edit: Refreshed it and says out of stock again but it’s flickering like crazy
