Nvidia CEO confirms 3080 3090 shortages until 2021

yes but its not a supply issue !

Only Nvidia could spin that. Already seen the Twitter Meme's and GIF's.

The thing is we will find out the truth in the next quarterly financials.

I expect it is a combination of supply and higher than expected demand.

Also in my excitement, failed to notice that there's no mention of 3070..
What is being implied here?

Probably hoping they'll have sufficient inventory by pushing the date back a bit - wouldn't surprise me if it got pushed back again. Whether it will stand up to demand or not is another matter.

It is not great, but also not the end of the world :) These things happened in the 90s and early 2000s quite a lot, particularly with difficult to find hardware. I still remember that when I finally got my hands in a TNT2 the guy that sold it to me wanted the box to keep it on display :p A few years later I grabbed a Geforce 256 and it was a bit the same story.

Back to stone age?

It's an odd situation really.

If they kept the original release date then a lucky few would get the cards immediately, but there'd be frustration from others that they weren't one of the lucky ones and they'll have to wait. By pushing the release back they ensure that nobody gets a card until later.#

It's a no-win situation for them if they can't meet the initial demand I suppose.

They must be gambling that AMD can not deliver either because Customer A with £700 is he going to pre-order a 3080 that wont appear till 2021 or buy the AMD release come October which have plenty in stock at near 3080 performance for £600 (theorising) ?

Er well, AMD will be using TSMC who also need to provide both the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X which drop in Nov and have already maxed out their pre-orders and will likely have back orders placed until well after Xmas. There's no evidence that AMD will be able to ramp up production any faster and provide millions of cards into the market any quicker than Nvidia can. Production is hard, ramping it up is not something you can do quickly even if there's a lot of immediate demand, there's just a lot of real world logistical issues with setting up new manufacturing plants, hiring new people that means there's big delays.

But you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. If you launch early it's a lottery, those people who didn't get a card are upset. If you stockpile for months you get people who are upset asking why are you stockpiling cards we could be using right this moment just so that a release is more "fair". What do you think Sony fans would say now if they said we're going to push our launch to Jan so that we can stockpile enough PS5s so everyone can get one at day 1? Those people would be upset.

I'm sorry but remind me again who was it that created all this demand, with their hype, poor 2000 pricing etc, I know very little about business, marketing etc but come on, this is all down to Nvidia, covid and the problems around it have been with us since March, I cant really find excuses for how Nvidia handled this 'Launch' as I'm sure they must have analysed how this would go. Sorry but nope mostly down to poor planning or as I suspect they just didn't care about their customers. As for Ocuk, best not go their.

This is what happens when you press the "Emergency GPU launch" button and you have naff all capacity to build the GPU's themselves.

Massive chips, probably with a limited yield per wafer, pushed to within an inch of their life and a pent up demand. The only thing missing here is the buy more to save more, oh wait you can't buy any. :p

NVIDIA might have well as just waited until December, the global supply is tiny to the point people can't blame anyone other than Nvidia.

Sorry but these companies employ very clever people to foresee all these sort of issues and problems and to forecast how things will go and what might affect a new product being launched. They analyse and predict and hype it up and then are shocked at the demand. Covid has been around a while and was predicted to last for some time. I just cant believe these multi billion dollar companies could get it so wrong. As we know they hyped it all up hoping to create huge demand and then they are surprised! Nah, very poor, i think they knew what was going to happen and dont care about customers.

It was just a theory pulled out of the air not to be taken that seriously hence the (theorising). With regards to PS5 people will be upset if they cant get a console on launch day if stock wasnt there. Difference is if there is a stock issue with Xbox/Ps5 it will be all over the main news. PC component stock issue not even worth a mention. :)

Nope...this impatient, self entitled ' I WANT IT NOW!!!' internet culture would have ensured that no matter when they launched, it would have been a complete FUBAR result.

It's only old farts like me that have any patience thesedays..:p

Exactly this, of course they new how these launches would go, THEY hyped it up knowing full well how this would go but didn't care.

I am also an old fart and waiting for a graphics card(don't care which brand just value and performance) and Xbox Series X.

the excuse of "we didn't expect such demand" is utter nonsense.

Hmmm lets make a new GPU that's significantly more powerful than the most expensive GPU on the market and set the MSRP at half the price of the most expensive current gen GPU - but I doubt anyone would want one

For all the talk i still call BS on this one, Still if AMD do not have issues with manufacturing this is looking like a very good opportunity for them. The more you think about it this is all looking very similar to Intel`s issue's
