Nvidia CEO confirms 3080 3090 shortages until 2021

Nvidia must think they're competing with the new consoles for mainstream 4K gamers, hence the 3080 price being much lower than the 2080ti and the 3070 even rumoured seemingly likely faster than 2080ti and only £499 . Or why not make the 3080 more expensive?

Everywhere must also have mountains of 20xx range stock to clear still ? Who will touch it when 30xx is so much better? Problem ?

So they launch earlier than consoles to show you can do 4k/60 on PC without having to spend £1K+ on graphics card.... £649 is still expensive, when you'll be able to game 4k/60 for £449 total console machine cost from November. Obviously PCs do some things better. There isn't really much difference from a hardware perspective anymore.

Nvidia now admit don't put any volume in the market though...?, Because what about all the 20xx stock ? Consoles don't launch till the start of November also ?

Who will be surprised when there is mountains of 30xx stock available from mid November?

That's fine by me, my 2080Ti will tide me over until things settle down.

There really isn't a reason to drop a 2080ti unless you game in 4k or want to let it go before it plummets in resale value. 2080ti is still a monster, my 1070 still handles everything on the market at 1440p, except Red Turd Redemption 2.

Turn it up from low settings. :p Playable perhaps, decent FPS at higher settings, nope. Unless you have a 60hz monitor.
Nah man literally everything I've played except RDR2 holds 80 or above, though I don't really play anything new. Hannspree GH324 144hz

Can't think of any system killers that have come out recently though, anything you would suggest? Probably have it in the Steam library by accident :D

Apologies, my figures weren't representing Nvidia, just and example of how it is nigh on impossible to define a paper launch due to many factors involved.

However, Nvidia know how many cards will be needed to launch a product without a massive shortages, even more so with the limited popularity for the previous generation high end cards.

I've never seen such a terrible product launch from a PC component manufacturer, apart from the recent Intel launches back with in 8th Gen CPU's at the high end. Not sure how many customers Sony have, but I'd say as a % of interested parties they'll hit a larger percentage by a country mile on day one, and the real test is the festive period for them not first day of availability, don't forget there product will last 5-7 years and sell continuously for that time, Nvidia are supposed to have thing down to a tee with this happening every 12-24 months. They **** the bed, and launched a product before there was any real stock availability, if I was a consumer buyer anticipating something coming for two years, I'd be mildly frustrated they didn't do a better job, but since I'm not then I can afford to be way more critical.
I suppose it'll all eventually come out why it's happened. I'm genuinely surprised at the level of interest in the 3080 due to world economy but I suppose people need cheering up, plus the price was a pleasant surprise.

I wonder if Nvidia took a calculated risk by releasing early to beat AMD which has now backfired. How badly, time will tell.

I'm not convinced AMD can capitalise because with a reveal on the 28th when will stock be actually available? Two, three weeks and how much? Also the performance has to be up there and competitive pricing.

Sony and Microsoft have both underestimated demand as well, but yes not to the same extent as Nvidia.

Horizen Zero Dawn, possibly an unoptimised mess but your gonna get about 40 FPS.
Battlefield V, 70 ish FPS
Death stranging, 70 ish FPS
Witcher 3, 65 ish FPS
FS2020(lol) about 20 FPS
Metro 30-40 FPS

Granted, those are all playable at those FPS however I have a 1080 and feel its starting to struggle at 1440p high refresh.

Ah yeah, haven't touched any of those except Witcher 3 which runs higher than 65fps with a texture mod and reshade. Except in cities, I'd be interested in how the 30 series handles Novigrad.
On that note is it time for another Witcher playthrough. Damn why'd you have to include that haha :o

In response to a question about the shortages, Huang countered that the company hadn't experienced a shortage of supply, but rather an abundance of demand:
What a load of crap

If it not a supply issue then why did most retailers only get a few cards to sell...

Yes i believe demand is much higher then what was expected but that doesn't answer why the retailers got very few cards..

Retailers will tell you they haven't seen a phenomenon like this in over a decade of computing. It hearkens back to the old days of Windows 95 and Pentium when people were just out of their minds to buy this stuff. So this is a phenomenon like we've not seen in a long time, and we just weren't prepared for it

Literally just saw a 3090 Zotac trinity pop up for sale as used (so returned / cancelled order) not on OC of course...and poof.. gone, in about 4 seconds... lol
Saw it by chance and isn't what I'm after anyway, but.. yeah, these things are being snapped up immediately as soon as any show their face.

What was the price?

Not many wise people want a 2080ti for 4K gaming, as it lacks the physical HDMI 2.1 port to enable above 60fps at 4k.

This is one (of many) reasons the 3000 series are so popular. Not many PC gamers are happy gaming at a lower resolution than consoles, and as the new consoles are 4k60 devices, there's a rush to get 4K ready on PC.

The main reason IMO is that Covid lockdowns mean people are willing to spend more on high end gaming equipment, as they're using said equipment much more than normal.
