**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

When there is an OC version of a card and a non-OC version (like the Asus Strix and the Gigabyte Aorus) is there any advantage to getting the OC card? Are they likely to OC better or are they only worth it if you won't be manually overclocking?

id imagine any custom pcb card will overclock around the same to the next one. So a cheaper custom pcb card will overclock just as high as perhaps a kingpin or Strix or AMP Extreme. There is no way around the low voltage. But AIB can get around cooling and power limit issues. I realy doubt they are any cherry picked cores other than the binning process nvidia do. i Feel these chips are capable of MUCH MUCH more but nvidia are being very conservative so when they do the Pascal refresh they can then unleash the power some what more. When there was voltage mods people was getting 2.4-2.5ghz even 3ghz which kingpin managed. Fair enough they used LN2 but i reckon you could get close to 2.3 on water with no voltage restriction.

Alright, so EVERYONE who has or will have very shortly the 1080ti, go and buy mass effect Andromeda. In 4K it is absolutely mind boggling, especially the remnant alien graphics, I'm just sat there staring at how beautiful it is! Yeah people have said this isn't a great game, but in actual fact the story and dialogue is still better than a lot of games out there. And probably up there with the best looking game ever in 4K!!

Delspx which 4k monitor are you using out of interest? I am on an asus 4k 60hz...want to switch to 144hz but should wait till next year when more start coming out...

Acer Predator XB271HK, I got it when it was £600, looks like there has been a price hike though since "that event which shall not be named" last June. It's an absolute beast, comparing it to my friends 144Hz monitors it just blows them out the water. 1080ti can give mostly stable 60hz in nearly all games too, even if it dips the gsync technology in the monitor keeps it butter smooth.

I don't have a 4k screen yet, but will give it a go in 1440p 144hz and see what's what. I got it by pure chance and wasn't even planning to play it any time soon. Got one of those loot boxes on GreenManGaming for 3.99 and one of them games turned up to be this one. Thanks for the suggestion :)

From what I have seen hardly anyone here has a 4K monitor so they won't be able to :p

I think a lot of people here like first person shooters and play online so 4K is a no go for them as it is only 60hz. Also maybe saw 4K on a game that does not show its benefits or maybe on a low ppi display so they do not know what they are missing.

My current monitor is 4K 27" has 163ppi. I have even considered going 24" 4K to get 183ppi. Just means I need to set windows scaling to 200% which works great for many things, but at the same time many programs are not hi dpi aware yet, not even steam (can get a skin for it though apparently), so I need to put up with blurry text or disable it for each program individually, but then it becomes small. At 32" I could easily use it at 100% scaling, so will eventually get that. But trouble is ppi drops all the way to 137 which means you will probably need to rely more on AA for jaggies. Obviously it matters how close you have your monitor to your head, I sit quite close.

Mass effect looks really nice, I am really impressed with the visuals. Also enjoying the gameplay.

Nice Delspx. I almost got that one. I have MG24UQ 60hz... I would much prefer 4k at 60hz than 1440 at 144hz. You can't tell the difference over 60hz really! Obviously would be better to have higher refresh but, I am happy with that for the moment. Just thinking the 1080ti will push more frames and I'll lose a bit, performance wise, with the 60hz monitor. So future upgrade = monitor next year imo.

Cheesy dialogue, broken animations and the facial expressions in that game make me want to punch my monitor. And that's just from watching YouTube clips. I'm still on my first run through of Witcher 3, so I'm going to stick with that.

IMO still going to be a spectacle at 1440p and 144Hz, and for 3.99 too in a bundle, You lucky thing !! Aha, enjoy

if it's the same As the 1080 version the strx oc will have board wiring points and an unlocked bios to go with it. the non oc version will not.

I got the xb280hk 4k 60hz gsync on on release and ill just be glad to finally max my monitors refresh on a single card solution

Only played the 9 hour trial of ME:A and it was pretty stunning at 1440 (couldn't try it at 4k cuz I'm temp using a GTX 970 until my 1080ti turns up due to selling my 980ti to part fund the upgrade) the dialogue was a bit Pap but I didn't get any animation issues. I'm gonna hold off on buying it till it's cheap.

I find there to be a vast difference between 60 and 144Hz. I could never go back to a bog standard 60Hz screen after using a 1440P 144Hz screen.

I tried the game and liked it, gameplay, graphics, despite reviews saying its crap.

Yeah, all depends on the individual and what games they play. If you stopped playing twitch gaming you probably would not care 60hz or 144hz would be my guess.
