**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

Had 144hz screens in the past- helped with online FPS marginally, but always gone to better quality screens, maybe it's getting older but at 100hz 3440x1440 even the ti struggles to max out, I've dabbled with 4k and while it looks beatifull, with aa off it only about hits 60 FPS with quality maxed, every generation of card is faster but games add more lighting and other effects. I can't see 144hz 4k for at least 6 years an no one will have the same setup by that time!

Yeah, all depends on the individual and what games they play. If you stopped playing twitch gaming you probably would not care 60hz or 144hz would be my guess.
Any type of medium/fast paced game benefits imo, i wouldn't say even twitch movement is needed, playing any fps and just moving the mouse around at a normal steady speed is enough to see the difference. Go back to 60hz and it looks like everything has trailing. With consoles i don't mind so much because it's a closed system, everyone is on an equal playing field so i know what to expect.

I moved from a 120hz 1080p 27" screen to the Dell 24" 1440p 165hz, i was going to go for the 27" ones but they all have pixel inversion issues which is why i downsized a bit instead. Cracking screen though even though it's a bit smaller. I probably won't go to 4K until they have higher hz screens and they mature a bit now, minimums are still much better at 1440p over 4K in demanding games.

I have a 4k 40 inch monitor that is 60htz. I used to use a 27 inch Benq 1080p 144htz and although the refresh rate was superior on the old screen I would never go back. The visuals on a 4K monitor are just amazing if you have the horse power to run it. Yes my k/d rate on bf4 was better when I was on a higher refresh rate and higher frames but the visuals of seeing Skyrim, Mass Effect and Witcher 3 is just so much better than boasting about how amazing my k/D ratio was in cs go, playing the same old map over and over again.

On a side note I've been without a card for 3 weeks or so now. OCUK when will I expect my preordered ASUS strix oc 1080 ti to arrive!? I'm getting withdrawl symptoms now and the ps4 just doesn't quite cut it :)

^ You're obviously more of a single player gamer, minimum fps still leaves a bit to be desired at 4K even with the current high end cards, some games can still dip into the 20-30's range. Gsync helps but it's not a miracle worker either, low fps is still low fps.

I've come from a 1080 and if I needed some extra frames on bf4 I'd just lower some eye candy like textures. It sounds strange but ultra settings in 1080p look the same as medium settings in 4k and if you can stand a little screen tearing like me then you soon get more screen updates. Yes not as smooth as 120fps but still just as enjoyable

I've been playing 4K using my Samsung 68" HDR 4K screen. Mass effect is mind blowing in HDR, the difference is night and day. The sheet amount of detail is mind blowing. I'll never go back to playing on a monitor.

Oh dear..... Don't get me started on monitors vs TV. Tvs should be used for TV and consoles, monitors for PC gaming. The quality a monitor gives you vs a TV is like night and day.

Comfort too, its much more comfortable sitting on a couch than sitting at at desk. Until the day there is a 68" monitor with HDR I'll stick to what I have.

And more socialable (when you're married etc). I've not owned a monitor for years and play from the sofa with a 50" 4K Panasonic (via DisplayPort). My mATX system (Corsair Air 240) sits beautifully in our TV cabinet.

I use a Xbox Elite Controller and Logitech wireless keyboard for games like Planet Coaster. Have a CV1 too.

I find there to be a vast difference between 60 and 144Hz. I could never go back to a bog standard 60Hz screen after using a 1440P 144Hz screen.

Haha that's fair enough, but it's funny how this is THE divisive issue. I can't go back to 1440p 144hz since getting 4K 60 hz

Yeah, you said it exactly. It looks better at 4k, but you have to buy the latest acer predator to get close to 144 hz. That said, I wouldn't go back to 1440p from 4k. As long as it retains 60 fps its a no brainer until cheaper monitors come out. Looks insanely different from 2k etc. Imagine 8k soon will come with a disclaimer saying it will melt faces, please use with care.
