NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

The back of my case where the card sits is getting very hot for some reason, it's nearly too hot to touch. GPU temps are normally in the high 60's/low 70's when I'm gaming, so I can't see why it heats up so much.
My 660 operated at around the same temps and that never pumped this much heat out and the cards only have a 5 watt difference.
It actually makes any cables plugged into it go limp, they get that hot. Can't be doing them any good.

I've not heard about this. Where did you hear this?

The Strix has a backplate so should help with that problem.

I've read a couple of comments here and there about the cards sagging noticeably, one reviewer also mentioned this problem. I don't really know the extent of the issue or whether it's something to be worried about but people were also saying similar stuff about the MSI. TBH, I don't mind if the card sags slightly as long as it doesn't damage the mobo, which hopefully won't be the case.

Received my 970. Having order it at 2.30pm yesterday which is phenomenal service.

However the box has a big rip in it and there doesn’t seem to be any seals on the box.

Haven’t opened the box and visually inspected the card yet, but just posting just in case.

Anyone running more than 2 sli of MSI 970's?

If so, how did you attach the 2nd sli bridge with the MSI logo sticking out next to it.

my card sags in its slot, as did the 7990, the weight of the card is causing the backplate to sag downhill, you can only jack up the far end.

it's sagging in two plains, down to the right and down towards you, just try not to notice it ;)

stop making excuses not to buy a card !!!!

Trust me, I really want to buy this card and I'll probably do but I'm just cautious. As I said, I don't care about the GPU sagging if it's purely an aesthetic issue but if it's going to damage my Z97-Pro and/or the card itself, then I will have to put up with horrible Asus RMA trying to explain that their highly regarded GPU broke the PCIe slot on their equally highly regarded motherboard;p

Any reason why these 970s max out at around 3.5gb ram in Shadow of Mordor? I know Moogleys has reported this before and I can see that it's happening on all of the 970/Shadow of Mordor videos I've seen on Youtube.

I'm assuming it's either a game related issue or a driver problem as everything else runs fine. Shadow of Mordor is a stuttery mess whatever settings I seem to use (sli or no sli, vsync or no vsync).

Any ideas??

No idea on this never did find an answer. On my 980 it sat at the full 4GB which is weird. It also uses the full 4gb on my 290 but as you say only 3.5GB on the 970.

Was just weird that the 980 was fine with the same driver. I no longer have the 970 but would be interesting to find out what it was.

Indeed, seems slightly odd that there's very few people that play the game mentioning/questioning it. Particularly those that are running the HD pack - hi-res or not, it should still saturate your vram no problem.
