NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

prepare to be disappointed with far cry 4 , game is a stuttering mess with sli .. currently run it in single gpu as its smoother.

Same for me it's more annoying that the PS4 version is perfectly smooth and just as good looking.

These poor ports are making PC gaming a pain..

I have been reading about how bad it is. I will be pretty busy up until Xmas anyway so I might hold off playing it until after. Gives them few more weeks to try and fix it.

Got my "Arctic Accelero Xtreme III" today must say my enthusiasm to see idle temperatures had dropped over 10°C vanished when I saw my load temperatures were even worse :(

Doesn't seem to help that the fan profile doesn't work correctly (even with Afterburner), so 50% fan doesn't seem to actually be 50%.

Does anyone know if I try changing the max RPM in the BIOS if it might help calibrate the fan better?

Why did you need an Xtreme III? Which card do you have?

Palit Jetstream, temperatures were topping out at 75-80°C in some games, meaning the fan noise was too much for me (even after trying a few different fan profiles). I was hoping the Xtreme III would enable lower noise and temperatures about 70 or lower.

Hm that's pretty odd. From reviews the Jetstream is one of the quietest cards.

Not when the fan is @ 60% or above, as with most of these cards I would imagine. I wouldn't mind high temps if it was silent - like I said that was the aim for the Arctic cooler, to keep the temps stable and noise down.

I had a noisy fan too AND higher temps, it had to be returned - Palit Jetstream 970 GTX

Your fan was a bit dodgy though, making strange noises thought wasn't it? Mine's fine, just hot and too noisy for me at high rpm.

Heat is probably due to the proximity of the CPU heatsink as it's about 5mm away from the backside of the GPU!

Tried Strix SLI... you need closed headphones for that. Fans go over 64%, and they become audible during gaming. Temps keep below 80C. I tried limiting fan to the 54%, but then temps go up way too high.

IMO, for SLI you either need blowers (which are the type of cooling I hate for noise), or those motherboards like Gigabyte G1 Gaming, which offer 2 spaces between two cards. In 3440x1440 they go in DA:Inquisition on 45-55 FPS, but I can't stand the 60Hz screens, the tearing is disgusting. In FullHD they go in DA:I for 90 FPS *Ultra, 2xMSAA), single goes at 58, so scaling is nice.

And my single Strix is nice. Running it on 1522 MHz / 4000 MHz RAM. Fan speed never go up over 38% and 68C. Power consumption is just awesome... 169W when OCed, below 160, when on stock.
