NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Just stuck a 120mm intake fan on the side panel, right over the 2 MSI GTX970s. Idle temps now 25° + 30°. 30 min of Bioshock Infinite (GPU usage reached 99% and 97%) and temps reached 64° + 65°. The temperature difference between cards now almost gone completely. Before one card was nearly 10° hotter, or more.

The fan is a NoiseBlocker 900RPM and it's silent. In fact it's the wrong fan really :). Side panel can have a 140mm or 120mm, and I bought the 120mm. Ordered a 140mm 1200RPM fan (NoiseBlocker again) and will see how temps are with that.

Really struggling with my 970s right now. Did a fresh install of windows and as soon as I installed Nvidia drivers my pc basically exploded.
It just hanged and the monitor went in to standby. Now every time I reboot I just get a black screen :( It won't even post.

Is there a gap between your cards or are they back to back?

Struggling to get past a 20c delta on mine but they are sandwiched together (windforce)

It's 10C warmer than mine yet my card is overclocked and voltage bios modded.

Although I have three fans at the front, one at the bottom and one at the rear :) ( 540 Air stock fans are naff )

Sorted it, had my be quiet dark rock pushing air into the case and toward the GPU instead of pulling air from the case and out the top, cant have it side ways on for some reason with socket AM3 but temps are around 10C lower under load now

Yeah there is a 1 slot gap. Though there is a TV card in the gap. Very small card though.

Seen 67° + 64° highest now.

Anyone else getting a similar problem. All of a sudden my MSI 970GTX (purchased 27 sept from OCUK) is no longer spinning down the fans when coming out of gaming. The fans operate correctly when I reboot the PC but as soon as I do any gaming which causes the fans to spin up they do not spin down when leaving the session . I think one of the fans is operating correctly as Afterburner is showing the fan going to 0RPM but the second fan (Which ceverly MSI do not have an monitoring for) isn't

I've contacted MSI and they told me to flash the bios (which didn't fix it) not has switch back to earlier drivers

Any ideas would be great as I don't want to RMA it before Xmas which would leave me with no PC :(

There is no fix unless you set up a custom fan profile.

You will have to RMA the card to get this resolved.

There are threads on there forums with the issue.

One huge thread got deleted and the problem never gets acknowledged by MSI.

I fancy getting a 970 (moving from a long line of AMD cards )
Really wanted to spend no more than 250 but realised that I will have to spend a little more for a brand that I like.
So, I've narrowed it down to 2 cards (MSI and Gigabyte)...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-259-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1010

Has anyone got experience of either, and/or can recommend?

Ta!! :)

I have the G1.

She whines a little but only when the fps are sky high. Generally tho she doesnt whine during gaming.

MSI on the other hand, doesnt have a backplate and was having fan issues around the time I was purchasing. Although I belive this has been sorted via a bios update.

Ok, thanks.
Can't get the Gigabyte as it is huuuge, and won't fit in my case :(

May as well just order the MSI then.
Btw, does a backplate really make that much difference?

I've been struggling all day with my pc. 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't even POST.

After dismantling my PC several times I tried using a DVI to my monitor...and everything works fine now.
Using a DisplayPort on either of my cards completely stops my PC from booting, anybody else got the same issue?

Is the system performing as it should now? I remember you saying you had a lot of issues, fps loss in games and sluggishness in general.

What's the latest BIOS for the MSI 970's?
GPU-Z is saying mine is 84.04.2F.00.F1 for both my cards. Just want to know if this is the latest?

That is the latest one I think.

Just used LiveUpdate 6 to scan and it says VGA BIOS up to date. So LiveUpdate 6 doesn't support SLI :). As I know 1 of my cards has an older BIOS.

I haven't tried anything yet really, but I just did about 10 boots in a row with no problems with DVI.
With DisplayPort it almost never boots, and when it does the resolution is messed up.
