NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

kapp i think 970 owners are in shock 2 weeks ago it was the best thing since sliced bread and today its a pile of junk

oh my . im not happy with nvidia myself but claiming they a pile of junk

faster at my res i play than a 290,290x a 780 ti tested in all games i play. its why i kept it through the ordeal :p

upto 1080 its very quick and wont have any issues at 1080. thing is people need to remember is over 1080 you shouldn't be buying a 970 anyway.

so in short upto 1080 which is the gamers choice its a great card will be for a few years. you can thank consoles for that.

the only thing thats come out of this ordeal with the 970 gtx is lots more people hate nvidia. oh also that people will jump ship at 1080 and buy a 290 then realize its slower :( . feel sorry for those that do that.

Like I have said before the 970/980 are not bad cards if you are a upgrader but no good for 4K what with the 256bit bus and now this memory issue, they were a stop gap until the real cards come out like the fatmax.

Needed a new card this weekend was between 290X and a 970, spent plenty of time reading the 970 memory thread and ready a few articles about it, still went with a 970. Looking at benchmarks, power/temps etc 970 still seems to be a great card gaming at 1080P as i do. Ended up with the KFA2 970 black edition should arrive today, feel confident that i made the right choice even with all the issues people are having with Nvidia.

at 1080 they are very good. take one over a 290.

at 1440 id go with a 980

at 4k id have probably 3 or 4 290 8gb

so a 970 does do well.

last week i have tried a 290, 780 ti , and my gigabyte g1 at 1080. guess what g1 stays . it was faster in literally every game i play. at my res.

I've had 290x, several 780ti's and a 970 and the 970 was the slowest of the three.

Reasons for what? Thinking the 290X is a better card? Look at all of the benchmarks, especially at the higher resolutions, it's simple fact. Plus it can use all 4GB, all of the time.

I ain't too bothered about benchmarks, its more the whole gaming experience for me. I only ask as I'm thinking of going from 970 to 290x. I game at 1080p so not sure what to do.

I've been testing the gtx 970 on some of the newer games and appear to have stuttering even when the memory usage is less than 3GB. The Unigine Heaven and Valley Benchmarks have quite a lot too and they use less than 1.5GB @ 1080P.

I've noticed the frame times in MSI Afterburner fluctuate a lot and have many spikes. Is MSI AB a reliable measurement or is there something better?

The Gigabyte G1 is one I've been keeping my eye on along with the MSI for months. Obviously now feel more hesitant about getting one more than ever from the VRAM issues some people are having, hence why I've posted in the 290x owners thread about the possibility of getting one of those too. However, I game a 1920x1080, so maybe I will be immune from the VRAM issues for now, I don't know? But I suppose it's also a question of how long it will be before more games at even 1080p require 4GB+.

I'm thinking at 4gb you have some sort of future proof. I'd say at least a year. 3.5 might be pushing it but I'm no expert on the matter.
