NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

okay look at when big releases come out

easter or november/december each year

Hardline next big fps guess what same as bf4.

cod and some ubisoft games around christmas probably buggy. so nothing for a year min.

only games that will test the vram are buggy ports.

i personally just forget ubisoft then that's half of the problems gone.:p

look at the games that do go over vram liimits all buggy badly made or 99 percent are.

bit strange just come back to my PC after watching TV and Windows Update reports there is a nvidia driver update for me 265mb. Checked nvidia website and no new one since 22/1/15. Now I never use drivers from Windows Update but this is either 347.25 which is most probably but then why would WU think it needs updating or could it be a new release from nvidia sneaked out due to the 970 thang ? BTW I never get nvidia drivers popping up on Windows update apart from now.

Curious.

I ain't too bothered about benchmarks, its more the whole gaming experience for me. I only ask as I'm thinking of going from 970 to 290x. I game at 1080p so not sure what to do.

tbh i'd stick with the 970.

I've posted my thoughts on other threads but basically the 970 was designed for a "mass market" approach on nailing a high performance at high efficiency to game at what most people game at, 1080p. It wasn't designed for 4K (is anything at the moment?) but I think a few users might have thought this and the 980 were a golden ticket to it when in reality (apart from people who throw money at it) we are 2-3 generations of card away from 4k for the masses.

the 970 is a great card, I've had no issues with it. FC4 runs a dream at ultra 60-80fps never had a stutter, bf4 at ultra 85-100fps on 64 player servers (I turn a few things down to achieve 120fps solid for 120hz monitor), Skyrim heavily modded with realvision ENB 60FPS constant (games needs vsync)

I only play at 1080p as that what I wanted to do, and I bought the best card I could afford to do it. Someone found its limits because they pushed it beyond what it was designed for. Yes NVidia might have messed up a tad (people/companies make mistakes) but they have produced a stonking good card which received plaudits from all around.

the 290x probably a good card (never owned one) but its a sideways move for more heat, more power use and from what I've read, worse drivers!

The way I see it, when games are too much for the 970 at 1080p, I'll be happy to upgrade to the new set tech again. I bet the cards will have some fantastic new features.

Whereas if I swapped for say an 8gb 290x... I'll be waiting even longer to upgrade and feel left behind a bit. Slightly bizzare logic but that's where I'm at.

For 1080p I'd absolutely recommend keeping the 970. In fact, I'd recommend getting a better monitor. :)

I have a feeling, Nvidia are going to have to counter the 970 vram storm and the recent influx of reduced AMD priced cards, with a 970 price reduction otherwise they are going to bleed sales to the red side.

I've moved from my two 970's to two 8Gb 290x's and I'm really not liking them.
I'm pretty sure it's the temperatures but I can't seem to cure it.
Other than buying a new case, which I can't guarantee will cure it, then I think I'm in for a stuttering few months of gaming :(

So I just got a AOC 2460FQ (1080p 144hz) monitor, and tried plugging in and using the displayport for the first time on my 970.

But nothing. No signal. It works fine through DVI though. I see a few reports of dodgy DP on 970s.. is that what is happening with me? Anything obvious I've missed?

is the connector fully pushed in? Heard a few reports of the connectors being quite tight to push all the way home.

My 7990 struggled to wake my monitor on display port. I'd usually have to turn it off then back on again.
With my 970's it was flawless. No issues whatsoever.
It's back to being rubbish now that I've got a 290x.

As an update, looks like it was the connector!

So the cable would click in, but pushing it in a little firmer helped. Obviously thats probably not how it should be, but happy enough now.

Thanks for the help.
