NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Got my OCUK Reference 970 running wonderfully and FarCry 3 looks sweet

Haven't overclocked the card but looking forward to see what clocks I can pull in future :)

Runs cool and quiet compared to my Gigabyte 7950.

Build quality is absolutely top. Glad I go this card.

been playing around with my Gigabyte G1 gtx 970, what a beast of a card and so sexy at the same time..

anyway, iv managed stable 1512Mhz (1hr on valley benchmark, no issues)

+120 on core clock, +400 on mem, 110% power

card runs 67-68C, 80% fan speed (I changed fan curve) bit of an OCD about 70c temps, yes it is noisy, but I game with headset so don't bother me.

I tried 130 on core clock but after about 20 mins or so, core clock kinda resets back to default values on evga precisionx, screen blacks and then back on again, dunno what else I could try...

WoW Engine is so badly optimised....try proper games with it like GTA 5/Dying Light/AC Unity/Far Cry 4 if you want to see it's true power.

I remember using my SLI 680's in WoW yet it still ran horrible completely maxed due to the shadows completely eating up my FPS....turn them off totally.

i'm sorry but lol, you say wow is badly optimised then of the games you list only 1 is done well.

I like all of them apart from unity and they look pretty but optimised they are not!

Think that's valley reporting the boost clock incorrectly. +120 won't be giving you 1512Mhz. Mines is +147 for a moderate OC of 1450Mhz. Might be different across different vendors though.

Just had quick look and valley reports my boost clock as 1602Mhz.

1512Mhz is what shows in gpu-z and evga precision

Tbh, it's weird how the boost works. Your G1 has a 38Mhz increase in core clock from my MSI, yet yours OC'd +120 is over 50MHZ over mine which is OC'd +147. I can go higher with mine but didn't see much performance increase, outwith synthetic benchmarks, and temps & noise got a bit higher.

Jesus lads.

Before Christmas I was reading this thread and was pretty much convinced to get a 970 when my bonus arrived (came this month). Upgraded my CPU to an i5 in prep.

Come back to the thread to see whats going on and its scandal after scandal and all of a sudden I'm not sure of the purchase :D

I game mostly at 1080p, playing World of Warcraft, CSGO, along with older steam catalogue. I don't play cutting edge games on ultra settings. BF4 and Hardline are probably the most recent titles I play.

Has AMD's 290 come back into the mix, or are the 970 problems an issues for those operating at higher levels than me?

Also in that typical boat of do I hold on to see any price drops, or just invest now and get it over with. Didn't take head of the price warnings before Xmas from OC about currency and missed out there.

So much negativity or questions and uncertainty around the forum. I've been crash coursing on what the issues are, and the main seems to be a potential issues surrounding VRAM.

I'd say the "newest" games I'll play, but not for a good while (later in the year) will be GTA and The Witcher 3.

Although I also noticed a thread mentioning some new released cards potentially coming in June, so I might hang off another month see if there is any movement on prices. I typically need to be very clever with my purchases money wise, and I'm never cutting edge with tech.

A 970 still appeals to me a little more then a 290 due to power consumption and temps(I'm reading 970 stronger here) but there just seems to be so much conflict, and a bit too much fanfare in the general threads. GPU decisions used to be very straight forward, with one release being clearly the best and favourible option :'(

I will soon be able to give a fair comparison with some of the newer AAA titles and compare the 970 against a Titan X. I will be as fair and as honest as possible when running some side by side comparisons between the two and will mention if there is stutters or discrepancies. Keep an eye on my youtube channel for those that are interested :)

It's a non issue as far as games performance goes, mainly caused by people expecting too much from the 970.

970's cost £150-£200 less than the 980 and gets worse performance!!!..go figure

A single 970 will be more than enough for these games @ 1080, if you double up and got a second 970, you'll be able to play GTA V at 4K resolution with a rock solid 60fps...just like me:p
