NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Ordered the MSI 970 earlier and really looking forward to it. I'm upgrading from a GTX 680 and play at 1080p so it should give me a pretty decent jump in performance hopefully.

So much negativity or questions and uncertainty around the forum. I've been crash coursing on what the issues are, and the main seems to be a potential issues surrounding VRAM.

I'd say the "newest" games I'll play, but not for a good while (later in the year) will be GTA and The Witcher 3.

Although I also noticed a thread mentioning some new released cards potentially coming in June, so I might hang off another month see if there is any movement on prices. I typically need to be very clever with my purchases money wise, and I'm never cutting edge with tech.

A 970 still appeals to me a little more then a 290 due to power consumption and temps(I'm reading 970 stronger here) but there just seems to be so much conflict, and a bit too much fanfare in the general threads. GPU decisions used to be very straight forward, with one release being clearly the best and favourible option :'(

Don't worry about the scare mongering, the 970s are good little cards. Have a read if you can be arsed and judge for yourself.

I'm looking to purchase another 970 for the PC in the lounge. Does anyone know what the differences between the EVGA 970 FTW ACX 2.0, and the EVGA 970 FTW+ ACX2.0 are?

Link Removed - Apologies dons, wasn't sure the pricing rule applied if it's in USD.

Thanks.

It's the two cards at the top of the page here:

Thanks.

From what I can make out, just a different cooler (slighlty improved ACX cooler on the previous version). I would also remove that link bud, as OcUK rules don't allow competitor pricing :)

Thanks, and done - wasn't sure if it applied when in USD but it's better to be safe than sorry :)

I'll go with the cheaper one in that case, the ACX 2.0 is supposedly quite good and I've not seen anything on a newer one so can't see the point in spending extra still.

Thanks.

No probs and these cards run so cool anyways, it wont make a difference

Just bought myself a second 970 to run in SLI. I was terrified I wouldn't see a difference and would have wasted a load of cash - immediate improvement and looks great in my case :)

Purchased the EVGA FTW ACX 2.0 970 card last night in the end, looks similar to stock 980 speeds in some of the benchmarks I've seen and seems to run quiet and cool. It's being delivered to my parents address but I'm on holiday for a week so I'll be itching to get home and get it swapped with the MSI Gaming 970 I've got in my main rig.

I was very tempted to get the R9 290X but with the two games included, it's a no-brainer. More so considering I've got no real interest in the Witcher 3 so I can claw back £20 for that.

I am sorry this will have been asked so many times...

But currently which is the best 970 at the moment to buy? I really dont want the hassle of coil whine, so any models that generally dont experience it would be great.....

Is there one clear winner?

whats so good about the G1 as opposed to the non-G1? Theres a £30 diff right now.

Backplate and cherry-picked cores.

Any love for this model, guys?

- 10-phase VRM, the beefiest among its peers by a margin

- GTX 980 pcb (the one used in GTX 980 Strix)

- Vastly improved cooler vs. Strix (5 direct contact heatpipes vs. 3 on Strix)

- 8+6 pin PCI-E (vs. single 8 pin on Strix)

It seems to me that this is exactly the same as the Dark Knight card that's available in China domestic market only... Just with a touch lower clocks by default.

I'm tempted to grab another G1 970....

Witcher 3 all maxed at 1200p is playable, but (probably based on framerate) I feel like I need more.

Do SLI 970's run cooler over all than SLI 670's? When I had two 670's they where extremely hot and loud.

I only have a 3570k at 4.5Ghz. I feels fast enough for the moment. I doubt it will hold me back any considerable way, will it?

I have a 850 watt PSU. Will this be enough?
