Ordered the MSI 970 earlier and really looking forward to it. I'm upgrading from a GTX 680 and play at 1080p so it should give me a pretty decent jump in performance hopefully.
Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. So much negativity or questions and uncertainty around the forum. I've been crash coursing on what the issues are, and the main seems to be a potential issues surrounding VRAM.
I'd say the "newest" games I'll play, but not for a good while (later in the year) will be GTA and The Witcher 3.
Although I also noticed a thread mentioning some new released cards potentially coming in June, so I might hang off another month see if there is any movement on prices. I typically need to be very clever with my purchases money wise, and I'm never cutting edge with tech.
A 970 still appeals to me a little more then a 290 due to power consumption and temps(I'm reading 970 stronger here) but there just seems to be so much conflict, and a bit too much fanfare in the general threads. GPU decisions used to be very straight forward, with one release being clearly the best and favourible option :'(
I've owned both as well Greg and the 970 was a cracking card, I never experienced any stutter with it. I never got to use it at 1440p though so it may start to show stutter then.
Limited at 1080p? Don't be silly
Just noticed these Asus 970s.
I believe they are optimised for thermals when running in SLI configurations.
They look really nice. I wonder how they compare to the reference ones.
I'm looking to purchase another 970 for the PC in the lounge. Does anyone know what the differences between the EVGA 970 FTW ACX 2.0, and the EVGA 970 FTW+ ACX2.0 are?
It's the two cards at the top of the page here:
Thanks.
From what I can make out, just a different cooler (slighlty improved ACX cooler on the previous version). I would also remove that link bud, as OcUK rules don't allow competitor pricing
Thanks, and done - wasn't sure if it applied when in USD but it's better to be safe than sorry
I'll go with the cheaper one in that case, the ACX 2.0 is supposedly quite good and I've not seen anything on a newer one so can't see the point in spending extra still.
Thanks.
whats so good about the G1 as opposed to the non-G1? Theres a £30 diff right now.
Backplate and cherry-picked cores.
