I have an MSI 970 with an 8 pin connection does that mean I can increase the power from 110 to 125 thus increasing my overclcoking capabilities? I only have a CorsairHX 620W PSU will this be an issue?

You can up the power limit in Afterburner which will help you overclock. It may be 8+6 pin but I don't think it will raise as high as the GB G1.

I doubt your PSU will be an issue.

Got the Asus Strix 970 and I'm using a Asus 670 DCU II from Ek. Which I now have a spare of. Pity I don't have 1000 posts or it would be right up on the MM.

Asus Strix

in Benchmark it's running at a maximum temperature of 66 degrees stock..
it's now time to overclock it

it's at 1400 .........1.180..........7096.........via GPU Tweak, it doesn't like too much voltage so over roughly 1.180 and it's liable to crash, ( stock voltage is 1.175) it's at 65 degrees, so it's actually slightly cooler overclocked !!!!!

interestingly.....when the temp rises to 68 degrees, the fans drop it back down to 65 degrees instantly, this is really cool man.

so it's about the same performance as my undervolted 7990, that was :- 1.095...........900............1422, so the 970 is a very powerful card, it'll be excellent in SLI

i guess messing around with the voltage above 1.180 wont increase FPS much, just cause it to crash instead..............i'll increase the FPS by fitting another card soon

Looking to upgrade my 7950 to either the MSI or Gigabyte 970.

I'm running a Corsair 500R so I'm not sure on which one to get from a cooling perspective.

Never had a Gigabyte card in the past (only BFG/MSI/HIS) but obviously RMA/warranty needs to be good.

Can someone help me decide please cos I'm itching to click purchase.

Ta!

EDIT: Gone for the MSI!
