My first card hasn't even arrived yet, should be here later today - and I've just gone and ordered a second. A redundancy payout from my old part time job just came through so I thought why not. :D

It'll be the first time I'm going SLI. Should give me a nice boost from the Ti especially as I game over 3 screens @ 5760 x 1200

I could have the lowest ASIC ever posted, at 60.6 for my MSI 970. For reference, I get 100.5fps at stock. At 1524/8000, I get 115fps in Valley, so I'm contented with the 15% increase when I need it. Get 80fps (at 1080p only) in AC, almost maxed settings but no post processing, and 24 cars in grid. Problem though is my temps reach 74deg after some time, but that may be due to my PC's slow fans and poor cooling.:(

Have a horrible feeling you may need a beefier CPU but will be interesting to see how it copes.

Doubt it James, games are relying more on GPU power than CPU. Apart from BF4 and some RTS.

Not from my experience.

I've run 670 SLI, crossfire 290, trifire 290, 7990 and dual 7990s and every single game i've played has never used more than 60-70% GPU on anything less than 4 cores plus HT.

Running my 4690k at 4.7GHz with tweaked memory still didn't help.

Admittedly the higher the resolution the more the GPUs will be used which is why it will be interesting to see if his 4670k will be a bottle neck however I still stand by my point

One guy on OC managed to flash an EVGA SC 980 BIOS onto a ref 980, any idea if you can do similar with 970's? like flash a Strix/G1/MSI BIOS onto a ref clocked card? (I want it more for the additional TDP than the higher stock clocks).

I hope it's possible on a 970 too. There doesn't seem to be a way to flash a modded BIOS so my interest is access to the lower min fan speeds some of these cards have including 0 rpm.

It's probably too soon for anyone to have tried it and reported results.

I was looking to get SLI 970s but I'm not sure my i7 2600k 4.6Ghz would bottleneck the system (Also running at 2560x1440). Anyone have a clue if it would cause a bottleneck ?

you dont need much CPU power, my old i5 2500 handled the 7990 easily.

with my newer CPU, it's only at 40 degrees in Benchmark....It's hardly doing a thing whilst gaming

What makes the 970 faster than the 780 when it has lower clocks and less " stream processors " what is the actual % performance difference between the two when both at stock clocks?

Well first of all it doesn't have lower clocks, a ref 780 is 863MHz with 900MHz boost, a ref 970 is 1050MHz with 1178MHz boost, so at reference clocks the 780 is clocked higher, but on average the ref 970 is 14.5% faster than the ref 780 at 1080p.

I can't speak much about factory over clocked cards, but for user over clocks I can tell you a GTX970 boosting to 1460MHz destroys a GTX780 boosting to 1215MHz.

i've just run Heaven again

i got 118 FPS and a score of 2800 and that's on 1080p, that's more than last night and my card only has a mild Overclock.............i think !!!! it's running at 67 degrees with default fan speed.

so i'm very pleased with it..........no more overclocking needed.

the card feels a bit twitchy so it needs better drivers and time to settle in, but it's deffo better than the AMD 7970....more efficient!

is it better than the 7990 ???.....well that card ran too hot, so had to be undervolted a long way, plus its other settings too, so it's hard to tell, the 7990 was much more stable................its drivers were more mature though, the 970 in SLI will deffo blow it away but take up much more space inside the rig......the reviews are wrong, the Asus Strix is quite a big card, it's much deeper than the skinny 7990, this 970 card feels like the old 8800GTX

now do i get SLI ......... HA HA............not sure

I collected my msi gtx970 from ocuk shop this morning, its to replace a msi r9 290 reference card which for me was just too loud.

So here is a quick comparison

Bench test is Heaven @high settings 4xaa 1920x1080

Radeon r290 @ stock = min fps 28.79, max fps= 180.5, score = 2278

temps were high 80's-low90's and noise level (well all I can say is loud)

gtx 970 @ stock = min fps = 28.8, max fps = 180.5, score = 2278

they are uncannily similar

however the gtx never went above 63 c and was very quiet.

So for me who wanted out of the box something as quick as a r290 but without the heat and noise this card is perfect

YES DEFFO, what i like most about the 970 is that it runs cold and makes no noise.

you fit the 970 and think, ``lovely, it's like stepping into a warm bath after a long days work :D:D:D``

AMD have loads of work to do to get as good as this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
