Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

I've reported it to OcUK, if that's what you mean. I think they need to be having a word with their DPD Account Manager.

Good call, I wouldn't be put off with the 980 GTX because of this though. It's the driver who's most likely doing it, probably throwing it in the back of the van and allowing stuff to sit on it.

Oh a more humorous note, the driver probably has an AMD card

heh ;)

Box has damage to the Corner. I've not opened it at all to check the Card out.

Reason for this, the SOC Card before this had the same Damage to the Box and had ripped the Anti-static bag it was in. That Card had heat problems (even more so than a good Card).

I don't want to risk it nor have to send it back in a couple of Days. I'm just after a working machine now, not is it okay or not.

This is ridiculous, the cards are protected inside, scuffs and damage to corners can easily happen in transit, might not mean it has been dropped. At least show us a picture. Either way you should try the card as it may be an amazing clocker, run cool and have 0 coil whine.

It's a waste of your time, and OCUKs if you return purely because the outer box has a little dint/bash. Woopdy doo!

First, lol.

I'm sure this Card will be fine but should I/we have to take the chance?

No, if OcUK's delivery firm cannot deliver a product without damaging it in anyway than two things should happen.

Move to a new firm or package the products in such a way to not damage them if dropped\bashed\thrown in the back of van\sat on :)

You guys get my point. We have all paid a lot of money for these Cards, so the product should be in good nick when it arrives.

On a different note, DPD have responded with a terribly sorry e-mail and they pride themselves on the level of service they provide - must be a low bar :)

I've just sent a webnote to DPD direct.

Sorry to read that yet again you get a damaged GTX 980.

Did the person who signed for it not notice the external damage and simply refuse to accept the delivery...? That would have saved you faffing about with the returns etc, unless you intend to try it out...?

If I have accepted a damaged parcel I open it in front of the driver (and make him wait) to check for damage to the product etc (not always reliable to guarantee it works though) and at the very least note on their pad that it shows visible damage.
Some parcels are boxed or taped with clear instructions to not accept delivery if there is evidence of damage.

Good luck but what is your next choice to have a working card...?

It's a box, unless you have a glass cabinet wanting to show off 980's in some sort of Museum, most people would just try it and see how it is firstly. If the card is in FULL working order, nothing wrong with it. I cannot see how its justifiable to waste time because of external damage to a box.

Can't take pictures of the FTW while at work - we have a ban on Photography devices on site.

However, my returned SOC Card can be seen in the below thread. That Card had heating problems due to the Cooler being dis-lodged. I get the point you are making though and thank you for your input.

You are quite right. And after some time to reflect, I will test the Card.

Mine came with a damaged I/O plate, but it overclocks like a beast so I decided to keep it.

Did you keep a hold of it, out of interest?

As it happened, I bought a Windforce, which had very poor vram (would artefact even with a small memory overclock). I didn't want to keep it with the chance of it diminishing further and artefacting at stock memory clocks. Any way, before I sent it back I waited for the G1 to turn up and when it did I swapped the IO plates over and sent the Windforce back. Cheeky, but it meant I only sent one card back and not two. The dodgy IO plate I had wouldn't even line up so I could get one screw in so it was completely useless and I wouldn't have been happy keeping that.

I'd be furious if I'd just spent over £400 and the box was damaged?!

Hell, when my OLED TV was delivered, I made the courier wait till I'd unboxed it and tested it was working and mark free.

We pay a lot of money for nice things in life, and courier companies charge a lot of money for 'delivering'.

Well it's installed.

Windows did not detect it as a GTX980 after installing the latest NV drivers, so had to remove and use DDU. But since then it appears to be okay.

Yes, I did remove all NV drives before removing the SOC.

Time will tell I think.
