Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

lol! :p

Maxwell doesn't respond as well as Kepler to water it seems. Not much gain in potential overclocks without more voltage.

stock boost is 1366 :)

It's all about the stuff and things isn't it :D

They are vital, you need the right stuff and things or else an imbalance occurs and make other stuff and things happen and that can be dangerous.

lol! :p

I have Maxwell's album, Urban something, but this Kepler bloke, I assume he is a south African swimmer?

Just played some Dead rising 3 and did a quick Fraps bench outdoors slashing up zombies:

Code:
Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
3851 68937 45	73	55.863

3440x1440 Maximum settings and SMAA.

Bit higher than the 290X used to get in terms of lowest fps (was around 37 for that) and the max is a shade higher as well.

Haha :D
Keep up the good work

I have to say I am mighty impressed with the GTX980 coming from my twin 5870/i930 set up of old. That has served me really well up until BF4 and Crysis 3 but the new GTX980 Haswell E blows them at max effect on my 27" Dell screen at it's highest resolution.

Makes them finally playable (BF4) and really gorgeous (Crysis3)

Less of a bump but a bump still for me coming from a GTX 780 to an AMD 290X and now the 980 OC. The 980 is so so silent, in fact the fans don't even spin in Windows and only do in games once a certain temp is reached and only then a single fan might spin up depending on what part of the card is hottest :p

MSI have a winner here. That and the card generates less heat than my CPU when gaming. How's that for thermal technological advances!

Guys I've just posted a BIOS flashing guide the 970 which should work fine on the 980.

For example if you have a 980 with the reference cooler you will be able to flash the EVGA SC BIOS onto your 980 and increase stock clocks to 1241core and 1342boost.

Would you say it was a worthwhile jump up from a GTX 780?

For me it was yes, the extra 1GB VRAM helped in games like Wolfenstein and Dead rising 3 which uses around 3.7GB on my system. I game at 3440x1440 though with AA and max settings.

When I had a 27" 2560x1440 the 780 powered through everything and it was only after upgrading display did I see the need to upgrade GFX to keep the minimum fps high and remove the slight stutters here and there.

Just a quick post to add my 2p'worth. Running 2 Zotak GTX980's Sli reference cards.

Last card was a pair of 570gtx's in SLI so the whole power limit was new to me so I whacked that to 125% then +250 on the clock and +600 on the Memory.

lol it work and I'm seeing 1516 clock and a shade over 8k on the memory. Had to raise +20mv to get through a valley bench.... but this is all on AIR !! Idling at 34 - Load at 70.

Impressed ? yessir. Managed a 15202 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2884415 on firestrike but my i920 is holding me back.

Will have another go as soon as the 5960 can get plumbed in. Like a kid in a sweetshop. God forbid the wide ever realises how much the new rig cost...

Those old chips still have life in them yet! :) Nice upgrade for sure with those cards.

Just going to leave this here. Load temps on water @ stock whilst playing Shadow of Mordor.

Seems to draw approx 300 watts more than siting Idle when gaming. I.e. my Corsair link shows a jump from 190 at idle to approx 600/650 peak.

(that's with an i920 too at 3.9 too mind)

Perhaps 150 watts each ?

I reckon an 800 watt or 1000 would be enough. (I run an AXi1200 for reference)
