Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Is there anyone who has gtx 980 single and play 4k on it?

I mean roughly 50fps, medium settings.

Please tell me what u think about performance in 4k games with single 980.
Only from ur own experience not from benchmarks.

My experience is a single card is not quite fast enough (mine run 1507MHZ under water @ 1.275v).

The reference OCUK 980 I got has zero coilwhine and overclocks to 1500/2000 stable and with a custom fan curve never gets above 75'c at full load.

Ironic really considering the Strix 980 my work mate has can't get over 1400/1800 and has terrible satanic coilwhine yet at the time of purchase cost £50 more :p

finally caved in and gone for the KFA2 SOC :) should be a decent upgrade from my 570 - just hope the beast fits in my Antec 1200 case. I need to move an hdd or 2 for it for certain

It does!

Although my Card looks like it had been dropped during transit, the box was dented and the Card had split the Anti-Static Bag - seems to be working though.

I am very much split as to what to do with my 970, and the KFA2 980 certainly caught my eye as it would be an £80 top up on my 970 Reference. 970 SLI is off the table now (for obvious reasons), and tbh I can't see myself going 980 SLI as I will likely switch to the 3xx series when that comes out, or perhaps an Nvidia 8GB card if they ever make one. So, what to do now... 980 or maybe an 8GB 290X for the same price as the KFA2? I think either of these will be worth more than the 970 in 6 months time (and last that bit longer), but I'm unsure which way to go. Of course, posting this is the 980 thread I can probably guess what most will say lol! ;)

Ah need a new case :(:(

Sorry was only joking :D

The reference design for the GTX 980 was made to 267mm but I do not know who made a card close to that length with the size of coolers they use.

Someone might be able to help and post back.

Good luck - can't you just remove a HD bay or something...?

Oh haha. Yeah just saw the reference one. If I take out the hd bay I get something like 420mm space, where would I put the hdd? Not clued up much on cases/space as I didn't build it myself!

Be creative. If it is an SSD then with a bit of blue tac it could stick anywhere.
If it is mechanical 3.5 then in a spare 5.25 bay or even on the floor of the case at a push, don't let the board under the drive short on any metal though. I have used both

Have a ssd and a hdd. I'll take a look later thanks

Just for you, mine is in a Antec 1200 Case:

sweet thanks.....looks like I'll definately have to move a drive up out of the way then - hope the spaghetti junction of wires/sata/molex adapters will work around it as have a SAS card in there and like 10+sata cables + molex>sata power adapters lol

It's been dispatched :) Looking forward to tmw.....means will have opportunity to relocated the case onto my desk too as need to so get extra cable length for my Rift

Mine isn't the best clocker though, seems voltage limited. As soon as I give it more juice it clocks.

It's got an 80 ASIC with a stock volts of 1.2 so maybe that has something to do with it. Lots to learn with this GPU, not as easy to OC as my old 970.

I have the Galax gtx 980 HOF in my system. When I push in the so-called boost button, it sounds like it's going to take off. Does anyone else have this card, and does yours sound like that?
