Nvidia to support Freesync?

Finally got the gsync indicator to pop up while playing so apparently its working, thing is I seem to get tears with it on, when I put vsync on(in the game) with the gsync its smooth as butter but your supposed to run gsync without vsync are you not?
You are supposed to use V-sync in the Nvidia control panel and cap your fps a few frames lower than your maximum refresh rate.

You can cap it with RTSS or in game settings or just play at settings that don't go over.

Thanks for the info, will try vsync on in the nvidia cp next time, although having it on in game did make it smooth as silk for me

Tried it on my dirt cheap Electriq 32" IPS, cant tell if it's working or not. Prior to drivers, switching on freensync on the OSD would make things a bit washed out and greyer looking. Now it looks no different, but cant tell if it's working or not although everything says enabled (no gsync indicator option on my NVidia CP)... just went in pubg training grounds, seemed exactly the same, fps was 100-200+. Don't seem to get any tearing at any fps rate on this screen though anyway...

I had a good play with this in Titanfall 2, where you can vary the framerate via the adaptive resulution and supersampling options. It's impressive tech, very glad to finally have it.

It's very effective at removing tearing or vsync judder, depending on whether you used vsync or not. One myth it kills off is that 40-60 FPS feels better. It doesn't imo.

I would say 144hz is a much bigger deal on it's own, but its a moot point now :)

Once you are getting towards 40 FPS it doesn't feel great but with V-Sync it is terrible and without V-Sync on you get quite bad tearing so atleast for me having G-Sync when you are dipping a little below 60 FPS makes a huge difference.

After some fiddling about i managed to get the G-Sync OSD thing to show up.

Are you meant to run V-Sync in the nV control panel?

Try proper Gsync one day, going below 60 definitely feels a lot better to me.

Good point - I'd lost sight of the fact it was adaptive sync/FreeSync there which I've never felt handles lower framerates as well as a good G-Sync panel - especially if the panel has a lower range of 40-48Hz it probably doesn't do as well much below 60 in comparison to the panels that extend down to 30.

Yes, at least that's how it is with Gsync proper.

And turn off Vsync within the game.

Sorry i didn't see you initially :) ^^^

Thanks, its what i did, i have always run V-Sync off in game anyway, tho the G-Sync logo was on the side G-Sync was not working.. it was because my frame rates were 150+, after turning V-Sync on in the CP it made all the difference, locked to 75Hz, the way i think i could tell is the image remained sharp when panning around, there is motion blurring with just V-Sync, it felt different, it felt consistent.

Sort Video incoming....

So you've got it working then?

Nice.

That's actually a very good point - vsync under 60hz effectively means 30 FPS, or perhaps leaping between 30 and 60 FPS. I've never liked vsync, and I've gotten very used to high refresh rates lately, so I'm probably a bit unused to low fps one way or another.

I admit guys I am still somewhat confused.

So if we have a game hovering at say 35-45fps.

Gsync uses frame doubling and keeps it smooth.
Would it be exactly the same result on a min 48hz refresh rate display in terms of how its outputted?

Yes, i think it is... i'm chuffed to bits, this is not an expensive screen, its a nice screen but 31.5" 1440P IPS £250 RRP i paid £200, you can still get them.

Later i'm going to load up Star Citizen, i know some places in that which can bring performance to below the 48Hz range, see how it behaves then.

Anyway, i realised you can't actually tell G-Sync from a recording but here it is anyway... G-Sync logo on the side, there is some visible hitching in it but i know what that is, Shadowplay is recording to the same mechanical drive the game is installed on and i think its starting to fail from old age, when not recording it is absolutely butter smooth.

1440P when its done processing.

I really am happy, well done nVidia, this is a mark up for you :)

PS: my excuse, i wassen't exactly concentrating on the game :o
