Nvidia to support Freesync?

OK. Just had a play around in the Nvidia control panel and I can enable Gsync compatible on my monitor. Now I'm happy

. I bought the monitor mainly for programming at 4k but being able to use Freesync while I play the odd game is a massive bonus for me.

IT works now on your monitor ,why not use the freesync.IT is free to sync that bitch up with gtx1080ti.

Folks, is this a case of... if I just bought a Gsync monitor, I can take it back and get a Freesync equivalent and be able to use my RTX 2080 with a Freesync monitor?
Or is this looking at it too simplistically?

I have the same monitor with a Vega 64 which is no help to whether it will work with a 1080ti. What i can tell you though is make sure to go into your monitor settings and use the extended Freesync mode. On default the range is set to 48-60fps but if you choose the extended mode the monitor goes to a 40-60fps sync range.

Yes this is a problem for people like myself who own G-Sync monitors we are still tried to Nvidia GPU's unless AMD can bring out support for G-Sync monitors

Yes it does work just as good.I actually sold my 165 Hz G-sync and gaming on my 4K IPS freesync on GTX 1080Ti.I will never get another Nvidia G-sync panel again.
That AOC 35" AG352UCG6 looks sweet though.

Out of interest, (and please correct me if I am wrong). Are you able to achieve 165FPS with a 1080 TI at 4k resolution? I wouldve thought it would be a push with some games?

Incidentally I paid £650ish for my panel and honestly, I dont think there is Freesync alternatives much cheaper is there? (100Hz, 3440 x 1400 34/35" ish).

Thank you for the reply. I had a look in the control panel and the new Windows 10 settings app and couldn't find a setting like that. Where is it located in Windows 10 Pro 1809?

The settings will be within the monitor itself.

Check your monitor manual.

As above it is on your monitor. Push the on button while the monitor is on to get into the menu and right for setting, then down to picture and select the game adjust option. Freesync extended is in there.

Yes, you can do that. Here is a list of Freesync monitors tested with Nvidia by Rtings: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tests/motion/g-sync-compatible

Just remember you might have to turn Freesync on in the monitor's OSD or turn on 'Ultimate Engine' if you get a Samsung, like the CHG70 that I'm interested in, if you want Freesync to work correctly.

Each game is different and settings dependent.Just looking at any review of a video card.
For example I have 200 games installed on my computer at 4K Maximum settings maybe 10 can do 165Hz the other 190 not a chance.Even at 1920 x 1080 still not hitting 165Hz.
High refresh rates monitor are great for competitive gaming and for people who play fast FPS shooters where they want that no input lag where smoothness and reaction time of monitor are king if you can hit those high refresh rates.
Freesync/gsync are great to eliminate the screen tearing that will occur at high refresh rates.
LOL I want on long enough refresh rates on monitors and frame rates in games are very different things

The refresh rate of a monitor has an impact on input lag.If you can keep the framerate
At 60Hz display will never have a visible input lag below 16.67ms, because that's the amount of time which passes from one refresh to the next.
At 120Hz display halves that time to 8.33ms,
At 240Hz display further reduces it to 4.16ms

Thanks gerard. I was just thinking that if you wanted to achieve 165Hz you would effectively need 165FPS which is probably hard to achieve?

Do you perhaps set it to a lower refresh?

And thanks for that list. Ill take a look.

Honestly speaking, Im really happy with my AOC panel and cannot be arsed to faf around with returning etc.

Never set to lower refresh rate no need at all,but if you want higher FPS with lower input lag/frametimes when gaming you would need to adjust the game settings that's all.
It is perfectly fine to run 100Hz/120Hz/144Hz/165Hz at any FPS and within Freesync/Gsync range.

I would not trade in that monitor it is a nice one.
I sold my 165Hz G-sync TN panel for a 4K IPS Freesync 60Hz because it is a better monitor over the g-sync monitor for me.
Of course I do have lots of monitors ,just the 4K IPS Freesync 60Hz is my main gaming monitor and it is fantastic.

I have two samsung freesync panels i run my gtx1080 on. 1 a 1440 32inch and 1 a 27 inch 1080 both run as expected with 75hz freesync. However my card can mantain 100hz max setting most games and i can custom set the monitors to 100htz and 90htz. So i perfer the extra htz over the gsync setting and set vsync on in most games. Gsync setting locks my panels to 75htz on the 1 i enable it on.

It's not up to AMD. There is no hardware requirement from the GPU apart from having a display port at least version 1.2. It's up to Nvidia to allow AMD's GPU's to connect to a Gsync monitor.
