Oblivion Peformance So Far

SLI doesn't seem to do anything, I get load sharing but the FPS seems to be the same regardless. Indeed when it drops to 20fps the actual GPU load drops to only about 10-20% on each card (I was in the Arena watching the others train = phyics) , so it's not the graphics that are straining the system.

Nope, Jokester gets slowdown of 15-20fps on 2x 512mb GTX's.

They probably working on patches as we speak lol.

Ive tried it single and SLI and there is a definate but small difference. In single gpu I get a minimum of 5-10 fps sometimes, but with SLI I get 15-20 fps minimum. When SLI is turned on it just feels a lot more responsive.

Could someone check with their cpu at 2ghz 2.5ghz and 3ghz to see if there is a large differnce in fps, I bet there is.

Well just tried it with FRAPS, 3GHz

SLI 55-65
non-SLI 45

Strange on the scene I was using in single card it was bang on 45, but with SLI it was all over the place between 55 and 65.

Probably graphics limited on one card, and CPU on two cards. So when it was slightly less CPU dependant the graphics could get to work hence the FPS changing

i'm playing it on the 360 (looks great in HD and 42inches)

The only thing is everytime you go in or out of a house or inn etc it has to load the level up

bloody annoying in towns

is it the same on the PC?

I have a save game in the Market District (night time, looking down the street).
I'd just load it up and take a note of fraps without moving the mouse.

Non SLI (stock = 450/525) - 25fps
SLI (stock = 450/525) - 40fps
SLI (overclocked = 550/600) - 50fps

hardly any loading here, going indoors/dungeons etc takes a couple of seconds (not enough time to read the loading screen text), and the outside loading between areas is seemless. I'm using 2x250GB Sata2 drives in Raid0 though.

A nice little tweak (if you want more 'glow' using Bloom+AA) is to edit you Oblivion INI file in My Documents\My Games\Oblivion

Find the following 2 lines and change them to the values below

fAlphaAddExterior=0.2000 (or try 0.3 or 0.4 for more pronounced glow)
fAlphaAddInterior=1.0000

As with all INI tweaks remember the original values or make a back up of the INI! :) There is no FPS hit with this tweak, its just makes the Bloom affect more apparent. Also on the subject of tweaks, I found setting iMinGrassSize to 120 (or more) a nice FPS boost setting for grass.

Ok tweaked the .ini file quite a bit according too some posts i've found or been passed on and now i've got it running at nearly maxed out at 1920 x 1200 4 x AA + bloom. 30fps outside 40fps above inside. The grass thinning tweaked works very well with no V-sync and the render frames ahead set too '0'.

Im not wanting to stoke the fires of fanboi wars but can anyone report issues with framerate in this game while using a decent ATI card? A lot of the reports seem to be based on Nvidia setups?

Ill be making a card purchase this week with this game in mind. at 1650x1080 with a few things turned up/on its ok on my X800XL so considering an X1800XT soon as I can find one cheap.

Im perfectly happy with nvidia or ati whichever works best for this :)

IIRC there are a few reports floating around on the internet that Oblivion favours ATI cards. (google benches for it). I am sure these show the X1900XTX easily out performing the 7900GTX.

I think the X1800XT will be a better bet simply with its extra VRAM over the competing 7900GT (which I assume is the other card you would look at as a direct comparison).
