Oblivion Peformance So Far

Dutch Guy said:
I could not find a AF setting in the game so I used the control panel to enable 8x

I have just tried out 8x Quality and it looks a lot better. In my eyes, more of an improvement than AA. Has not effected frame rate too much.

7800GTX here 256mb. I get really bad FPS in places outside. I have sold my 7800GTX though and got a really cheap X1900XT, should be here tomorrow, ill see how much difference, if any that makes

please tell me how your getting on with it, as im thinking about that option as well.

Guys I went from 24fps in dense grassy areas and forest to 37fps!

Turn off shadows on grass (only stops your shadow casting on grass) for 5fps.

Go into the oblivion ini and change iMinGrassSize=80 to =160 for 8fps.

The difference in I.Q is hardly anything at all. All this does is draw less grass in the game.
good tip, will try that out now :)

if anybodies got any tips like this, post them in the Oblivion Tips/Spoilers thead in the PC Games forums please :D

i don't know how but on my athlon xp 2100, radeon x850 xt, 1gb ddr 2700 i get around about 35fps with 2AA 1280-1024 resolution and settings on highest

:) Hi I've just ordered a copy of Oblivion.
Been reading the thread about low fps in this game for most pc users.
As per my sig I have 2*128MB 6600GT's running @ 540/1150 and was wondering if they will be able to handle this game decently - until my new 7900gtx arrives  .
Game specs on website seem to say it needs minimum 6800Series
but at same time says 6600Series are supported

:)

I think youll be fine. just lower the grass and have bloom instead of hdr.

I just got this game, and its so pretty , it made me cry. My new 7900GT, overclocked of course, ran it lovely @1680x1050....now where are my tissues !!!!

Hugely disappointed with the performance on my machine (spec in sig) it stutters all over the place. I suspect it may be because of my X2, doesnt appear to be a multithreaded game, just a hunch though. Thing is, when I alt+tab to set affinity, the game crashes, lol :)

Just aswell I didn't buy it ;)

It stutters on my PC too and i have a single core CPU! In the end i took it off of the pc. All other games play really well indeed! Oblivion has a bad engine / bad design.

Runs perfectly well for me, framerates could be abit better in really dense areas (drops to low 20's) but no stuttering and outdoor load times are seamless... are u running 1gb ram like trojan698? Maybe thats it?

It works fine with dual core.No problems on my rig so thats not the problem. If you are running 1GB of ram then you will be for ever paging to disk causing this jerkiness.

2GB ram is a must to have to play the latest titles IMO.

Just because you are having problems don't blame the game.Have a closer look at your rig.

Other people are running it fine so its certainly not the game.

Eh? oblivion has now been universally slammed for poor coding on numerous forums/articles, of course its the game to a large extent. Read the elder scrolls forums and you'll see what I mean.
