OcUK Dieters Progress Thread

Think I'm going to have to skip my cardio tonight , nose is all bunged up and I can't breathe properly .. not good when you're going for it on the Cross Trainer ! :p

I don't usually get too out of breathe doing Body Pump so I should be ok :)

I skipped the gym all last week as I was really bunged up and just felt generally low - seems to be a lot of stuff going round at the moment.

I was away the week before so that means I've gone 2 weeks without. I've kept up the healthy eating though and plan to get back into things with a gym session tomorrow and a few games of Badminton on Wednesday.

*hugs Pebbles* That was me last week :/

Keep it up and don't lose the faith !! :D

Worked hard at Body Pump tonight even though I was bunged up - hopefully this damn cold will **** off soon so I can get my cardio going again !

Next class is circuit training on wednesday

Simple advice with illness:

- Workout and get ill for another 2 weeks or so
- Rest a few days then go back

I tried the first option waay to much! :P

Found this site the best advice and really has helped me a lot with some key principals in there that really makes a difference.
ie: keep heart rate constant, and in fat burning zone, in stead of racing your heart, and just burning glucose etc.

Have a read, well worth while ;)

Any ideas for good snack food?
I've got a problem with most of my week's schedule in that I can have late breakfast but then I'm either in a lecture or at work between 1 and 4-5pm meaning I get hungry but can't have any lunch :(

I know fruit would be ideal but it'd be a bit messy to eat in work or in a lecture so I need something a bit more erm self contained :D Don't really fancy carrot sticks either.

I'm awkward I know. Just want a decent snack that'll give me some energy and fill me up.

I started slim fast yesterday I am on day 2 and its been realy easy and tasty so far.

Sorry i didnt have time to read through all the pages. :)

Good to see some people to talk to aswell

I eat bananas in work about an hour before I teach a class. Huge energy boost when I need it.

I tend to snack on things like mushrooms and peppers dipped in houmous, rice cakes and oatcakes. All of those can be quite messy though! I also sometimes make rice pudding in the evening and keep it in portion sized amounts so I can sling it in my bag the next day and go.

Tend not to buy health bars as I don't really like them but I'm sure other people here will advise you on them. I do like dried fruit though especially apricots and will happily graze on them.

Ahh I've been eating bananas about an hour before work. :) Problem is they seem to wear off within about an hour of being at work and I end up hungry again :o
At one branch i'm at, it's fine because my boss will let me go in and out if I want to get some food, but the main branch I'm at is really picky about it :/

Well, in an effort to kickstart motivation again, Im now a fully paid up member of a gym, with a bag and a waterbottle and everything :/ Induction tomorrow at 11am, I feel sick already!

Good work Pebbles ! :D

You'll be fine at the induction , joining the gym was the best thing I did to get my motivation going , are you just going to be using the Gym or doing some classes as well ?

Shame we are at different gyms - we could have been gym buddies :p

Report back and let us know how it went!

May as well join in here!

Currently:
About 16 stone 4 which , despite a lot of it being muscle mass (honest :D), on my 5'9" frame looks a little chunky!

Have signed up to the gym in town and have been given a weight loss/fitness programme which i will do alongside the weights.

Target:
Not really sure, want to be fitter, be lean while still retaining the good weight for American Football! Initially I want to lose half a stone and see how i look!

Induction done, and Im gutted I didnt do it 6 months ago! I know it's their job to be friendly but the atmosphere in the gym is great, everyone smiles at or acknowledges everyone, amazing!! I have an hour with a PT next wednesday (ooh, get me!! lol) and the PT that took me round today also somehow persuaded me to do a class on tuesdays, half and half spin/pump. I feel like I've been railroaded a bit (but in a good way), she should be a glazing saleswoman!!

Motivation back with a vengeance. Hurrah!

Try carrot sticks, and homous :)

I sometimes make scotch eggs to have as a snack.
I won't lie, it's a lot of work but they taste great and are actually quite good for you.

I make my own sausage meat - cut up a pork shoulder, put in the food processor until minced up nicely then mix with some wheatgerm (10% the amount of the meat), salt and pepper.

Hard boil some eggs.

Take two layers of cling film and pummel a portion of the sausage meat until it is thin and then wrap it around the egg.

I generally do about 5-6 or these at a time and then just put them in the oven for 30 minutes on 180 degrees.
If the meat is lean you get good quality protein with little fat in the meat, fibre from the wheatgerm and then more protein and some fats from the egg.

Lots of hassle but if you make a few in advance it's worth it.
