OcUK Dieters Progress Thread

Go Piggy

Won't be home until tomorrow afternoon to weigh myself but I am ready for the worst. I've been rather naughty this weekend at the London meet - lots and lots of beer and burgers too, although I have done a fair bit of walking which may have offset that a little.

I will try to be good this week as my parents will be in Aberdeen for the weekend and I would like to show them that I have made some progress.

Stan :)

Thanks both

Sam, that's a lovely thing to say .. thank you :)

I know most people look at me and think I look fine but I'm still not 100% there - I do feel a heck of a lot better than when I first noticed I'd put on weight but my problem is I am a perfectionist when it comes to my looks :/

I'm my own worst critic and I can always find fault with the way when I know other people don't - you saw what I was like with my hair at the B&B :o

I think a lot of it comes from years of bullying in school and then being told by my ex I was ugly and nobody else would find me attractive ...when someone tells you that for 6 years it kinda sinks in :(

I'll get there, it'll just take a little time and the same goes for you - I thought you really did look lovely when we went out for the meal ... you have a beautiful face and a lovely smile :)

Well, pleasant surprise when I got home.

Weighed myself when I got home from a weekend of beer, whisky and burgers and have only put on 2 lbs since leaving the rig \o/

Weighed myself the night before leaving the rig and was 15 stone 4 lbs - today 15 stone 6 lbs

Time for a sig change.

Stan :)

Good going Stan :)

I have found a delicious new snack ..

Seedless white grapes with low fat natural yoghurt ! OMG ... it's so so so so so yummy ! :D

I've gone through 2 hooge pots of yoghurt and a bag of grapes since sunday :o I'm eating about 2 bowls a day

Almost halfway Pigmo! Keep it up.

I've lost an ickle bit of weight recently to get back into my evening suit trousers. Just waiting till I'm done with exams to lose the rest (about 2 stone would be nice!).

Well since I'm unemployed this week, I thought I'd make extra effort. Have been swimming today, and am aiming for exercise every day. Bought lots of veg and fruit to snack on whilst I do my revision too. Haven't lost much since my last weigh in, but at least I'm stable. When I get to my new job, they have a gym and swimming pool on site, so I can go and do my bit before I go home :) Extra motivation!

Thanks hon.

That sounds good

/waits impatiently for the shops to open - damn my irregular sleep pattern, I'm always awake long before the shops open :(

I'm off through to Aberdeen to have drinkies with big bro this afternoon, so exercise will be required today and tomorrow - a good long walk around the shops in Aberdeen today, I think and a long walk with the camera tomorrow should do the trick.

Stan :)

Thought this was some nice useful info :

STALLS -- WHY THE SCALES CAN LIE
A biologist at Berkeley shared something very revealing on the low-carb BBS system about 4 years ago that helps us all through the erratic weight fluctuations you invariably encounter: Fat cells are resilient, stubborn little creatures that do not want to give up their actual cell volume. Over a period of weeks, maybe months of "proper dieting", each of your fat cells may have actually lost a good percentage of the actual fat contained in those cells. But the fat cells themselves, stubborn little guys, replace that lost fat with water to retain their size. That is, instead of shrinking to match the reduced amount of fat in the cell, they stay the same size! Result - you weigh the same, look the same, maybe even gained some scale weight, even though you have actually lost some serious fat.
The good news is that this water replacement is temporary. It's a defensive measure to keep your body from changing too rapidly. It allows the fat cell to counter the rapid change in cell composition, allowing for a slow, gradual reduction in cell size. The problem is, most people are frustrated with their apparent lack of success, assume they have lost nothing, and stop dieting.
However, if you give those fat cells some time, like 4-6 months, and ignore the scale weight fluctuations, your real weight/shape will slowly begin to show. The moral of the story - be patient! Your body is changing even if the number on the scale isn't.

From the perspective of the scale, it can be discouraging. Which is why the mantra: Water retention masks fat loss (repeated frequently to oneself ) is helpful. Water retention will mask ongoing fat-loss for as long as the body retains the water. We can combat this by drinking more water... By weeks 5 and 6, things start to get back in balance, and the scale will begin to reflect the true fat-loss...which, as mentioned before is rate-limited. Individuals vary, but max weight loss runs about 2 pounds per week...under extremely optimal conditions... or 1% of body weight (whichever is the lower number).

So don't use the scale as an excuse to undermine your progress. Even when the scale is in a stall, fat loss can be occuring.

Nice one dude ! :D

That would help to explain my apparant very slow weight loss even though I am working my nuts off and eating healthily :)

It is hard to keep it going when the scales just don't shift but keep at it dude ! :D

My exercise has been a bit wafty this week :/

I didn't go at all apart from Monday morning .. I've been blobbing so had a baddy tummy :( - I've been good with my eating apart from some chip-shop chips on Friday

A work mate sat next to me with them and told me to dig in because he had too many ... I couldn't help it :o

Anyway, I've decided to take some measurements to see if I am making any losses there as well , I think I'll measure every 2 weeks

Current stats :

Boobs : 34"
Waist : 28"
Hips : 36"
Thigh : 22.5"

Yep - I'm a pear shape :(

I saw that on TV the other night ! - It's kinda what prompted me to get the measuring tape and then I thought I could measure myself once every 2 weeks to see if I am losing any inches at all

She does doesn't she :/

I want to remain curvy but toned ... I'm getting there .. slowly !

My things are a lot firmer than what they used to be ;)
