OcUK Jonathon Palmer Day - Drive an M3 GTP, Clio CUP, 911, Caterham 7 and more...

Is there any restrictions on what you can wear? To my knowledge there is not as they supply you race suits anyway. :)

Sorry - didn't mean it from their point of view. AFAIK they don't restrict what you can wear.

Jeans are v. restrictive - especially when wet & when you're being thrown around they tend to bunch making you think more about your danglies than you should be when the back end's hanging out.

Just a recommendation from my personal experiences... I'm not saying we should all show up in sweats... but comfy, free moving trousers make a world of difference :p

I'm thinking about using one of their race suits with how tight mine is...

I don't have a paper part.

Rung them up and confirmed they DON'T NEED THE PAPER PART (if you are a loser muppet)

Your card will be fine, but ideally bring the paper part.

Shorts are not permitted

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUU

Gosh, I'd forgotten all about the driving licence bit. That's tomorrow evening sorted then, ransacking the house for the paper part, but glad they don't *need* it. More concerned about the fact my DL has the wrong name on :/ (got married and haven't changed it yet!) Will take my marriage cert with me!

The ball and chain will suffice :D

I've emailed them about it just so we have confirmation on paper. It shouldn't be a problem but better to have it anyway.

They will know I'm lying - I should be in the kitchen not playing around with man stuff (ooh!) :p Think I'll wear a fake mustache and don a gruff voice.

:D

With all this dressing up the Bedford Staff will wonder what the hell have they got themselves into!

I might wear my bomber jackets and raybans seeing as shorts are not allowed

:D

Reply from Palmersport:

Hi Adam

I can confirm that you are very sexy, and although we like to see both parts of your driving licence, we accept that this is not always possible. Written within our registration form is a disclaimer which states by signing the form you confirm you hold a full, valid driving licence. If you are happy to sign this, we are happy for you to drive!

Kind regards

Helen

Heh... from the pics it looks like we don't have suits (or even overalls), the instructors do... so i'd look like a complete numpty in one... hmmm... almost as good as the superman outfit then :D

I don't think they'll provide anything but the helmet - it mentions wet weather clothing too but that could be anything.

I'd recommend assuming what you turn up in is what you drive in, so suitable shoes and comfortable clothes. Perhaps a goretex coat / trousers for the open cars if you expect it to be horrible weather (you don't know what they'll give you).

The scruffy man in a bright Yellow 911 or a JAAAAG :D

Weather looks to just be cloudy and a pleasant 16 Degrees, although it may change as we all know too well!

I phoned them today and was told that they only supply the fireproof race suits for the single seaters. For everything else you'll be in your normal clothes.

And the best part is that I threw away the perfect shoes for this last week as they were tatty
Racing in DC shoes is fine, right? :o

IME with DCs your feet will be too wide in the tight-pedalboxed stuff. I've driven road cars where DCs are too wide let alone a tight single seater!

Stop at a Sports Direct en route and get some Puma Drift Cats, they usually have them in stock for around £40 :)

Can I wear them for anything else? Seems a bit extreme for a 1-time shoe.
But I suspect I might be screwed with my skate shoes :(

I love my drift cats! They are a casual/lifestyle trainer really, but they were designed with/for Ferrari initially I think, you can get some models with Ferrari logos on them and they are like a karting boot but a shoe not a boot. Very narrow, very thin soles but with a good thick rounded heel.

Awesome for fast road driving as the pedal feel is like no other (normal) shoe I have tried.

I too have wide feet, the way they are designed allows for that somewhat by the upper sort of stretching out a bit. You end up knackering the material a bit where it meets the sole, but they clearly were not designed to be worn all the time.

You can see the wear where my wide feet have pushed the white part out and they have started to crack a bit.
