OcUK Powerlifting Totals

Arm position (in regards to parallel to the floor) means nothing, what matters is whether the bar touches your chest.
A good arch and a big chest will shorten the range of motion meaning that the arms dont go down so low.

benny, with DBs, be careful that you don't lower the arms too far.

In regards to arching... I have my feet up on the end of the bench to keep my back flat which I now see gives a bigger range of motion. I assume this is better for overall training as it will stimulate better growth. But in regards to 1RM would u suggest allowing my back to arch? I've felt nerves/muscles begin to cramp before which is why i've brought my feet up.

If your aim is to lift as much as possible, then you should arch. Powerlifting is about using your body to lift as much weight as possible, for bench it means recruiting lats, tris and shoulders as much as possible with lots of drive from planted feet.
If your aim is to build muscle, then you want a fuller range of motion recruiting as much of the chest as possible

Thanks.

Sounds like when using the lats, shoulders and feet for drive that by arching your back your pushing the bar 'downwards' although obviously still at a 90 degree angle from the floor. Just as arching changes the angle of your body...no?

Awesome work m8 no question, 180 in the squat totally crushes me! As in i wont even partial it, although i reckon i could

Thanks dude. I've always had powerful legs :) I'm still aiming for 600kg some time in 2009.

My DLs and squat are raw i.e. no belt, straps, wraps or anything, not even any chalk! lol! I think if I were to belt up or at least use straps the weight would increase on my DLs.

The weight would deffo increase, could add a bit more onto it easily.

Though tbh, you are reaching the area now where you are hitting 2xBW for your big exercises, it would probably be sensible to start considering a belt and maybe some knee wraps (for squats), as long as you continue to use the same form, they can only help you :]

Probably something to consider. I may stick to those weights and just start to get some reps out of them. Clearly my core is well trained and strong, but you're right why risk it when it comes to such heavy weights.

Yeah, its not like you are competing, there is no need to add that extra risk. Cant argue with the weights you are shifting though :D

Yeah, i can understand that, but its no dent to the ego by making things a little safer :p
that way you can start to target 650 :D

:D

Yeah. Raw is just so fun though :p

My ultimate dream which I won't chase as I've started too late for a start and am not committed enough for it and whereas I am very strong I don't have the genetics for it either, is to lift the 1T milestone... but that ain't ever going to happen! lol!

I lifted over 20T in a session, but with lots of reps :p

There are guys in their late forties who do that, id imagine you'd need gear however. I'll always be a bodybuilder, all about the look. But yeah id like to lift big too. 700k should be attainable for me. 200k bench 200k squat 300k DL
Although looking at powerlifting charts more likely 300k squat and 200k DL which technically means im 1/3 the way there already.... score

Ah ok my newest stats are:

Bench - 175 1RM
Squat - 240 1RM
Dead - 230 1RM - Haven't been doing much on this for the last month or two.

Total - 645

Weight is now 87.2 KG

Really struggling to get my bench up :(

Edit: Seeing the old schools at my gym at home next week though so i'm sure they'll rape me into getting it higher some how.

Starting in the new year i think we should have a proven vs unproven section to this. Video of lifts gets you on the proven list.

Reason for this is its nice to know where the average level of folks is and also nice to correlate the 'look' of some blokes to their lifts too. Personally its not that i CARE whether not people are telling the truth or not, its just that i would like to KNOW when certain people are being honest so i can use it to help my own training.

For example freefaller has posted vids of his big deadlifts and that helped give me confidence to have a crack at similar weights as from pics and posted stats i know we are comparable.

I just think it would be great if lots of us well known guys got vids together so that, on the one hand, people would know we are not full of BS. And on the other hand we could be confident of where we all stand relative to each other. I mean lets face it, if we all went to the same gym it would be AWESOME i mean all the knowledge and advice and what not coupled with actually seeing the impressive lifts, i think that would motivate any of us, since we cant do that the next best thing would be to creat an honest air of fact amongst us all.

I bring this up now because look at this konam4 guy, comes out of nowhere and posts serious quality lifts. Now if he's more than just a keyboard jockey he should have some great tips and info for any of us to heed. But he could just as easily be my little sister doing some role play for a laugh (im sure he isn't but you get my point)

Sure there will always be SK07's coming in here doing 3ton lat pull's but those guys come and go. The rest of us could do with backing up our typing i reckon. What you guys think?
