*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

When I connect the new USB C cable it charges the Quest 2 headset, will transfer data and Oculus Link shows as being available, but it does not work. The only time Oculus Link has worked for me is over the short USB C cable that came with my phone, although that wasn't great. The CV1 demanded a lot of USB 3 sockets and I had to add a PCIE USB 3.0 card for the sensors. But despite now having loads of them (2 direct into the motherboard, 2 on front panel extension and 4 on the PCIE card) I can't get the (supposedly high spec VR friendly) new cable to run Oculus Rift with any of them. My default for testing is to use a socket on the back direct into the motherboard with nothing else connected to USB 3.

I had a load of issues trying to get link to work. I had two cables including the official oculus one, and like you I could see the Q2 on my PC and could access the files. I also had the link option in the Q2 but it would not work. I ended up taking the headset back, and the new one also failed to work. It turned out there was an issue with windows 10 and a reinstall of the OS sorted it.

Just ordered one of these. Should be with me later today. Can't find the elite strap with battery for love nor money.

So looking at alternatives. Went to MVH but their aftermarket offering is not available either.

Anyone got some decent alternative recommendations that are available for purchase?

This will be my first foray into 'proper' VR. I had an oculus headset with my Galaxy S7 back in the day but its nothing like this will be! Happily my GPU is supported for PC link too, so looking forward to the versatility of the Facebook ecosystem and utilising some mainstream PC game content too.

Maybe get the regular Elite strap. That's what I have. Unless you are planning to be in VR for hours, the Elite strap is great. I know some people strap their own battery pack to the back.

There's plentyof Chinese knock offs too. The gomvr halo gets decent reviews.

If money is no object then deluxe audio strap with 3d printed connectors.

So my Quest 2 was delivered earlier. Nice bit of kit. Not sure the eye piece settings are suiting me though. Doesent feel quite right.

Finding the default environments blurry at any distance past a couple of metres and text is hit and miss unless I'm looking directly at it.

I've only played about with the pre installed introduction thing. That's pretty fun. I was expecting better image clarity though. Kind of feels similar to my Gear VR where everything has a fuzz to it and is out of focus.

I have the fit pack which I can play about with to see if that helps.

Will get some proper gaming done tomorrow and see how it feels!

Yeah I know. Just feels like it should be a wider area of focus. Feels a bit narrow.

The Valve Index has a much better FOV and is much clearer across the lenses, so you can just move your eyes, which feels more natural.

Trouble is it's over three times the price of the Quest 2, isn't wireless, requires base stations for tracking, and has the worst lens glare of any headset I've tried.

Quest 2 is amazing for what it is.

So, I'm having another go at Quest 2. First attempt was back in November, had really bad nausea/vertigo and migraines and returned it. On reflection, I think I went too deep too fast. I jumped into Alyx first day in and clocked quite a few hours.

Taking it easy this time and playing stationary games. Stopping as soon as I feel nauseous. So far so good.

How long did it take you guys to build up your VR legs enough to play full locomotive games?

So today, I got sidequest set up and installed doom 3 quest. I also used link to install and play lone echo.

Doom 3 is OK, but resolution isn't great and frame rate does not feel smooth even though its saying 60. Lots of settings to play with but its likely my GTX 1660ti just isn't going to cope with increasing resolution scale. I tried 2.0 on Lone echo and it got really choppy over cable connection.

Having said that, doom is great fun and really atmospheric. Only played the first bit - making my way back to marine control. Getting used to controls a little bit more now but the freedom to point gun one way whilst looking elsewhere and shining the torch somewhere else in off hand is adding a whole different dynamic.

Taking some getting used to the movement - I keep pressing up or down on right stick to look up and down and keep changing from pistol to fists! Doh - have to remember to use my head, lol. Going to try and work on smoothing things out a bit as it feels a bit erratic. For example watching the repair bot spider things move makes my eyes hurt! Their legs are warpy. Got a bit of motion sickness feeling but nowhere near as bad as I expected.

Had a quick go on Lone Echo - great physics and lovely details. I can see I'm going to enjoy this one.
