*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

So today, I got sidequest set up and installed doom 3 quest. I also used link to install and play lone echo.

Doom 3 is OK, but resolution isn't great and frame rate does not feel smooth even though its saying 60. Lots of settings to play with but its likely my GTX 1660ti just isn't going to cope with increasing resolution scale.

Doom 3 quest gets installed onto your headset if you are running the same modded version as me.

So, I'm having another go at Quest 2. First attempt was back in November, had really bad nausea/vertigo and migraines and returned it. On reflection, I think I went too deep too fast. I jumped into Alyx first day in and clocked quite a few hours.

Taking it easy this time and playing stationary games. Stopping as soon as I feel nauseous. So far so good.

How long did it take you guys to build up your VR legs enough to play full locomotive games?

A week or two. I'd stick to mostly stationary games but dip into Dirty Rally for a short burst now and again, but would stop as soon as I started feeling a bit wobbly. Went from only managing a couple of minutes at first up to completing a full race, to then lasting 20 minutes no problem fairly quickly. I also bought some ginger tablets off t'internet to help as this is good for motion sickness so these may have helped.

Hmmm thats interesting. I have been running it straight from sidequest via link. Primarily because it doesent show in my oculus library at all whether linked or not linked. Should note im using sidequest app on laptop not mobile device.

Do I need VD to run it from quest 2 without link? (I haven't installed it yet).

I have the VD app launched on my PC then launch VD on my quest2. You can then runs game via VD on your quest. As for Doom3 visuals I think there is a HD textures you can install via Sidequest which improves visuals.

If you installed it on to your headset using Sidequest then you don't need to be connected to your PC at all. Just launch the Doom 3 app on your headset in the "Unknown sources" tab.

You are correct. Been a while since played Doom3 so forgot as it is launched from "Unknown sources" on Q2 not via virtual desktop.

Oh man. Jupitergrad is a total vomit machine for me. I last a few mins and have to stop. Population One isn't much better. Not sure my VR legs will ever come.

Keep doing short blasts and stop as soon as you start feeling a bit wobbly. Don't try and battle through it. You should start to manage a little bit longer each time. Also try having a fan blowing in your face while you play, if you have one.

Might also be worth watching "Fantasynth One" (a VR lightshow/music video freebie on Steam). I found it quite good for easing me into coping with a moving camera view rather than being stationary.

Apologies if this has been asked before (I did try to search) but is it common to have constant white pixels in the passthrough view?

I recently got a new Quest 2 and I have a number of these. They only appear in the passthrough view so I presume they are dead/stuck pixels on one of the camera sensors. I just wanted to gauge whether I should do anything about it or whether it is just as likely that a replacement headset will have the same issue (or something worse).

It's not unusual - as you thought they're dead/stuck pixels. Oculus/Facebook have claimed that these don't affect tracking.

Hi folks.

So I am trying to locate just the high res texture paks for doom 3 quest. Having a bit of difficulty.

The one I have downloaded seem to be the right files but have completely broken the sound in game.

No amount of restarting etc fixes it. As soon as I replace with original pak files, it works again.

Would appreciate a pointer to the definitive hi res texture pak files or some advice on how to fix the sound when using the ones I found in reddit (7gb).

EDIT - would also appreciate the same pointers for Quake Quest too.
