*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

After spending several hours this week watching various videos and other research, I've just ordered a Quest 2. I used to have a CV1, but I sold it on, as for a couple of reasons it didn't get much use. The Quest 2 seems to have "fixed" all of the issues I had with it - namely the 20-30 mins setup each time I wanted to use it (due to not having a dedicated VR space, so the PC had to be moved and sensors set up/calibrated etc), and the poor legibility of text in games like ED.

Hoping I'll be able to get some decent performance with a Ryzen 3700x/RX 6800? Probably won't be able to hit the max resolution @ 120hz, but hoping to at least get close?

I've also ordered an Elite Strap to go with it as well.

In terms of battery pack - obviously there is the official one, which is pretty expensive for what it is, but I do have a 22400 mAh powerbank - will this work if I just cable tie/velcro strap it to the back of the Elite strap and hook up with a short USB A -> C cable?

For Air Link, my router is a TP-link Archer C6, will this work properly, or should I look at getting an AX router?

It looks like the games on my account which came with the CV1 (e.g. Robo Recall etc.) should still work with the Quest 2, along with any other games I purchased? Other than Half Life Alyx, are there any other "must have" recent games? I've not really kept up to date on it since I got rid of the CV1.

Thanks!

Max at 120hz, probably not. It's about 2x 4k you're trying to push out. But you can definitely get a very good experience out of it.

How big is that powerbank? Could be a bit unwieldy but worth trying!

It's pretty chunky, 175x80x25mm, 450g. Possibly overkill? :p

Do also have a much smaller one somewhere, 5200 mAh, 100x45x25mm, 120g

Thanks for the reply.

I was kinda edging to the 256GB with some little understanding but still thinking of perhaps liking the standalone experience.

In our house we have a RT AX88U main router and then a RT AX58U as a mesh device. It offers Wi-Fi 6, if that is needed.
So router wide we should be OK.

Any advice on the preferred head strap.?

The PC has a 5Ghz overclocked 9900k and a 3070 GPU, perhaps also OK for reasonable gaming experience.?

Ill take a look at the mentioned facepad, thanks. Also the cable.
Guessing that Virtual Desktop is the way to go.

Not too bothered about budget, well meaning that the cost of the Quest 2 is ok so the peripherals etc would be in line with that cost.

Thanks again

Get the 256GB one if the price isn't an issue. Better to have the space and not use it.

Head strap, I don't think there is any really preferred headstrap. It varies from person to person. The Elite Strap and stock strap are very handy if you are switching between a few people. But, both straps really need a counter weight to work effectively. That's why the Elite Strap with battery is a much better choice than the Elite Strap. But, for the deal that's basically costing you £20 for the Elite Strap, even if it doesn't suit, it's not going to break the bank. And when you get the VR cover, you can try out the mod to the stock strap that's surprisingly comfortable.

Pc is fine and Routers are fine. You should have a great experience on the Quest 2 using Wireless or wired PCVR.

Airlink or Virtual Desktop are great. Try Airlink, and if it's not working out great for you in the games you play, then you can consider buying Virtual Desktop.

First of all performance. No, sorry, you won't be getting max resolution at 120hz with a 6800. You will still be able to get a great experience and in some easier to run games you will be able to hit 120hz no problems.

Yeah, the DIY battery will work. Just make sure you can tighten and loosen the headset after fitting the battery. I believe there are some 3d printed solutions available.

The TP-Link C6 is fine as long as it's connected back to the computer by network cable. Also, it ideally needs to be in the same room that you will be using the Quest 2 in. And, lastly(for now), you should try to keep the 5ghz network free for Quest 2 use only.

Any game that you have on your PC that you can play in VR you can play on the Quest 2 as long as you connect your Quest 2 to the PC(either wirelessly or wired) But there are games that are crossbuy, these are games that you can buy on the Quest 2 store or from the Oculus store on the PC and you own in both. There are other games, like Beat Saber, for example. If you buy it on the Quest 2 store you don't own it on the Oculus PC store. Here is a list of crossbuy games

All very old games! Asgards Wrath is the only game on that list I like.

You tend to come across as quite a negative person though sarge.

I enjoy walkabout mini golf a lot, play with my dad (who I've not seen in the flesh for a year and a half now). Still receiving new updates of free courses.

Need more room to play eleven table tennis properly.

Best saber is a classic to keep coming back to

@melmac thanks for the follow up post. I am getting to understand that the Quest 2 has a two years warranty backed up by the manufacturer, sometimes quicker to deal with than the retailer. So a new unit will get a 2 yrs warranty without needing to shop specifically for it.
Yeah, for the price noted for the bundle £20 for the elite strap seems to be a good deal.
Point taken about Airlink, VD is always going to be there is AL doesn't meet my needs.

@Sarge2255 Thanks, getting to realise that, as mentioned above, that 2 yrs warranty is pretty much std regardless of place of purchase. The bundle offer noted tho is a strong offer.

@Unseul there is one going for sale in the gadgets section of this forum. But it's 64GB and I'm pretty confident that I will end up at some point in regretting that one over the 256GB offer. Generally I don't fair that well on tech gambles..! Not seeing 2 yrs warranty on them tho.

Many thanks for that list, looks to be some great choice there.

Silly point but if buying directly then the games are then tied to a "Oculus" type platform of VR, if that is worded correctly..? But, as an example, if I bought Beat Saber on Steam then it would be playable with any PCVR system...?

Yah, if you buy a game from the Oculus site, then it is tied down to your Facebook account used to login to the Oculus Quest 2. But if you buy a game from Steam, then that game will be on your Steam account.

Note : From Steam, you get no refunds what so ever.
From the Oculus Store, you get a refund within 2 hours of playing the game.
