*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

Thanks again Ravenger - it's so good to be back on Alyx though I am still having the odd issue e.g. Alyx or SteamVR don't launch properly (nothing at all, on a 2D screen or randomly yesterday - my system ran out of RAM @ 32GB lol).

Set render resolution back to x1.0 and the game runs sweet, just discovered those weird electric zombie making monsters :D.

Really glad it's sorted for you. I know how frustrating these things are.

I had to spend a frantic hour the other day trying to get my PC to boot, worring about having to replace the processor, motherboard or GPU. Luckily it just turned out to be a dodgy RAM connection, which reseating fixed. Phew!

Yeah pc gaming really keeps you in your toes I remember trying to get the rift s to work when I first got it in 2019 was a nightmare with the amount of launch issues it had

Enjoying the quest 2 massively in standalone form, tried it on my living room PC that has a GTX 970 wired and it struggled massively. Any one running these on a lower end GPU? I am looking to upgrade this as my gaming PC is in a room with limited space.

Something like a 3050?

i have it running on a 780Ti and you need to run games on lower settings as it's a bit of a slideshow.

Quest 2 runs at a pretty high resolution for a lower end GPU so you could try lowering the resolution in the oculus tool. I ran a Rift S with a rx480 which is slightly better than the 970 but it could be pretty smooth at reduced graphics settings but would still struggle and that's at a much reduced res than the Quest 2.

Was looking at the Steam Survey yesterday for something else and noticed that for VR the Quest 2 was at 45% (No.1) for Jan 2022 which I thought was quite amazing. (doesnt seem to be working at the moment)

Some people are suggesting that q2 is killing pcvr gaming, but that stat pretty much shows it's close to doubled (if not more, some like myself won't appear on steams numbers for the past month) the player base for pcvr, that's not going to kill it!

Will give this a try thanks, didn't realise you could lower the resolution although I think the 970 is showing its age massively running VR games. I'll probably just upgrade anyway.

Yep again I have a feeling the 970 is just showing its age now, I like the idea of wireless mode so will try a new GPU first and see what that is like. Got a feeling the BT hub is probably going to need an upgrade too :o

True as the figures on Steam are for Quest 2 being used with Virtual Desktop or Oculus link.

The issue is though that Quest 2 software sales are 10x PC VR, so it's more profitable to target Quest 2, which can lead to games being simpler or PC versions having worse graphics than would otherwise be the case.

There have been very very few decent games targeting PC VR only recently. The Wanderer is the only recent one. (After the Fall is also on Quest 2).

However PSVR 2 should be a shot-in-the-arm for PCVR as the games will be closer to PCVR quality, so likely we'll see PC ports of PSVR 2 games. (At least the non-exclusive ones).

On the plus side we are getting some amazing PC VR mod ports - RE2 is stunning for example - which cannot be done on Quest or PSVR 2.

My argument is that the graphics aren't worse than they would have been, there wouldn't have been any graphics at all, if not for the huge player pool the q2 has introduced, since it just wouldn't have been profitable in the first place.

I get your point. I'm just making the point that the Quest 2 will affect the quality of PC ports as developers will have to cater for the lowest denominator if they want the best sales, as a large proportion of Quest 2 owners use them as standalone only. We're on Overclockers, so we're PC gamers, but not everyone has a VR capable PC, and they're getting hugely expensive.

It also depends on how the developers handle it. And of course, some games like Demeo and Walkabout Mini Golf don't need stunning high end PC graphics to be great games.

True but from what I understand its cheaper to produce a PC VR game than a Oculus Quest 2 native game. Thats why they are so few native games. The gap between my Quest 1 June 2020 and getting the Quest 2 Oct 2021 there has hardly been any decent new native titles between this period. Its still not awash with native games.

I definitely agree with the sentiment that the psvr2 should be a great thing for pcvr going forward! The controllers and tracking will translate very well between psvr and pc ports and psvr games tended to be pretty fully featured. Quite a few quality titles that are still exclusive. I think owning a psvr 2 and a quest 2 (or whatever they release next) will give you the ultimate vr experience for the next year or 2

Well... Not the next year, seeing as psvr2 will have barely been released by the end! Not sure it's tracking is going to be really any different either, but I'm excited about the triggers. That could be a big immersion feature.

The tracking won't be much different than the Quest 2 (though so far no-one has managed to get inside out tracking working as good as Oculus/Meta), but it should be a massive improvement over the current PSVR tracking, as that's front facing only and inaccurate and prone to drift and occlusion.

The haptic triggers should be great, but bear in mind from what I have heard from PS5 users is that feedback can get very tiring if it's used excessively. Often people turn it off. Though that's for normal gamepad use, in VR it should add quite a bit to in-game interactions.
Also the headset has haptics too, which will be interesting.

I'll say as someone with a ps5 the feedback is great and I don't find it tiring myself! Find it adds a lot when implemented well in first party games like Ratchet and of course Astro. I think it will be some well in vr and should add even more to the vr games. Not sure how I feel about the headset haptics but we'll see how they're handled!

I should no longer post ITT - sold my trusty quest 2 64GB yesterday for £239 via ebay. as i was resetting it i was reminded just how good it was, that binocular overlap is the best i've seen in a hmd.
fond memories of it, i hope the new owner is happy.
btw if that was me i would rather have bought a new 1 with 128GB for £61 more. amazing how well they hold value, i bought it in 2020.
