*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

The Mexican wave of updates passed over my house last night and, just like Santa Claus, left me the the gift. :D

I am finally on V23 on both my computer and Quest 2.

Haven't had a chance to try anything out yet.

Iv also been in PockerStars VR for the last hour not had any tracking issues I was linked (Offical Cable) to pc playing that..Wont effect tracking issues tho being linked or not

Hello guys , i dont have Link cable for my Quest 2 so i wonder if i can get superior picture quality via Link compared to Virtual Desktop and wifi6 router ? Has anyone compared HL Alyx PQ in both ways ?

Thanks !

I dont own Virtual Desktop so im not sure but i would think quality would be better using Link..I wouldnt say it would be superior tho..Just buy one or check out Youtube

Guess it all depends if you want to be wireless

Recent link improvements means you can make Link look better than Virtual Desktop, partly because you can increase the bit-rate far beyond what Virtual Desktop can do, and because Oculus have added other quality improvements and performance options. But it requires a really beefy PC to get tge best out of it and a decent link cable.

The latency on Virtual desktop is more than when using Link, but at the lower bit rates it seems to be sharper and have better quality. But you need a really, really, good connection to your 5ghz router - ideally in the same room, otherwise you get frame drops, latency and compression issues. It's a bit like that old rhyme - When it's good, it's very, very good, but when it's bad it's horrid.

Also not all games work on Virtual Desktop, especially some high profile Oculus games like Stormlands.

thanks for the replays guys ! My router is in the same room- about 3 meters from the Quest so guess this wont be a problem . What is the maximum bit-rate that you can set on VD ? 150 Megabit/s ?
And is this depends of the HEVC encoding power of the GPU ?

Picture quality is better using link for sure, but for me Virtual desktop is far superior still, wireless is the gamechanger and playing half life Alyx with no tether just feels amazing.

Yeah the climb as well annoyingly, I still prefer VD over link in most games, but link has it's place now it's out of beta.

yeah 150mbps, but at that bandwidth latency might still be a tad too high, just have to experiment.

Finally swapped out my elite strap for a DAS recently (I now have 3d printed sides instead of the cable ties but can't be bothered to take a new picture.)
It's so much more comfortable and the wheel doesn't feel like it's going to break everytime I use it, which is nice, elite strap got returned to amazon as i thought it was a bit ***** for the money.

Looks great. How much did it all cost?

Seeing a few complaints about tracking popping up from people with the new update. Might not be such a bad thing to be at the back of the queue.

After testing the update for the last hour, I can confirm that my tracking isn't as good as before. Missing notes in Beat Saber for no reason.

Also my Quest 2 has slowed down quite a bit. It takes longer to load games and then in some games there is stuttering. I didn't have any stutter or missed notes when forcing the 90Hz mode from sidequest.

Bit disappointed to be honest.

Here's hoping they stop the roll out and fix it before i get it :).

Ok , i see ! Is there some way to show the latency real time statistics on the Oculus display ? It is fine if it is under 40-50ms - right ?
The latency is shown on the streamer app in windows
yeah, pretty much anything under 40-50ms is ok depending on the game. I wouldn't play fast games like beat saber on it, but games like boneworks, HL Alyx, H3VR all perform amazingly well.

On the flipside after the official update I am far more accurate in beat saber than I was wit the sidequest 90hz patch and games take no longer to load than normal. I do get stutter in the homescreen, but none in any games, and I got the patch the first day it launched.

too much lol.
The DAS was £110 with shipping, but worth it imo, the VRcover for the DAS for extra padding inside was £20.
I managed to get some 3d printed sides for free as someone on reddit made them for me.
The audio sounds great and it is so comfortable.
