So the VR bitrate is showing 61Mbps but the bar can be extended further... but no number is appearing after 61mbps....

not sure what to do here...

I've just tried pistol whip and space pirate trainer though the link

pistol whip - do not notice any difference what so ever

Space Pirate - Graphics are a lot better via link, much sharper, has added Fog effect, the shield looks amazing , its so bland on the quest 2

In the Virtual desktop streamer do you have the "automatically adjust bitrate" box checked?

I was just about to come on here and say Ive unticked the auto bitrate.
Thats done the trick, thank you so much.

There are so many options and I am not sure which ones to keep on and which ones off.

I now get 150Mbps for VR streaming, but is that overkill?

Playing Roborecall I did notice some stutter halfway through the game.... but I guess there are so many options to play with that could help with this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Glad you got it sorted :) and yeah, it's a minefield of settings.

150Mbs is overkill but it really depends on what GPU and wireless router you have. I would try it at 100 and see how it goes.

If you have a Nvidia GPU you should try "Spliced Encoding" on. In the Virtual desktop streamer, a lot of people are finding that H.264 is better than HEVC for the preferred codec.

There is option to enable performance overlay. It's a brilliant tool that lets you set the latency in game and where the problems are. And because you don't have to restart Virtual desktop after the most of the changes, you can quickly try out some settings and find what works best for you.

Here is the thread where people have posted their settings and some of their findings. Might help you out some.

Personally I find anything over 75mbps in the streaming section is absolutely fine. If you start going much over this you start to loose bandwidth for 90hz and start to get stuttering. You can go higher by lowering to 72hz and medium graphics so it’s a bit of personal preference.

You're a diamond, thank you.

Yes I read H264 is the way to go. Will try spliced encoding.
Yes saw the performance overlay function, super useful, thanks!

Thanks for the tip!

I wonder....

Oculus Link wire vs this wireless setup, if the VR stream rate is high-ish, is there any discernable difference between them (except for latency).

And regarding latency, I dont want to kid myself to say that there is no latency/lag, but it is pretty damned responsive, is this the experience of everyone else? Especially for highly paced games like Robo Recall and the like?

I came across this video on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx_1XKJJgtA

Fairly logical... also I wonder about the ULL mode in NCPL which he mentioned.

The question for me is do we games like HL:Alyx wireless or via the link cable...

Since that video more changes have happened with Virtual desktop. You can push the VR bitrate higher than before and still get good latency. But, as I said above, you really should try a few settings yourself.

I used the ULL for a while and it worked well. I am just switching drivers a lot lately for some other testing I am doing so I don't know how well it works with the current version of Virtual desktop. Also, if you play a lot of Steam games, there is a problem with the Nvidia drivers causing stutter in VR. There is no solution if you have a 3xxx card, but, if you are on Turing or Pascal if you notice stutter, roll back to any drivers released before the Ampere cards came out.

The last question, toughie for some not for me :) Alyx, with The Link cable since the V23 update looks a little better than through Virtual desktop(I haven't tried Alyx in the latest versions of Virtual desktop though) So some people would take the Link cable because of this. But, for me, it's not a tough question at all. I can't play room scale games anymore with the cable attached. It just completely breaks immersion IMO. So If I was playing Half Life: Alyx again, I would be playing using virtual desktop. Can live with the slightly worse graphics, can't live without the complete freedom of movement that wireless provides.

has anyone tried this and also the hp ?

I have both.
The quest 2 is a superb all rounder and is imo the no brainer choice for anyone wanting to check out VR for the 1st time. It doesn't excel in any 1 area but does a decent enough job in all areas. It is also optionally standalone which means no need for PC and optionally wireless PCVR too.
I picked up an improved head mount from AliExpress for £23 which massively improved comfort.... Again, for £300 as a gateway to VR unless you are anti Facebook this is the no brainer choice.

The reverb G2 in some areas stomps the quest 2. Better image quality, better sound, more comfort.out of the box.

BUT it's double the price, it is wired PCVR only, and the controllers and controller tracking is not as good as the quest 2.

ALSO.... Out of the box for me the supplied faceplate. Means you lose a lot of potential field of view. For me out of the box the FOV is on a par with the quest2 (but is head shape dependant)

After paying around £30 for an odyssey+ VR cover and some velcro strips I have removed the G2 faceplate and made my own. This is more comfy and has given me a noticeable increase in FOV.

I love my G2 now BUT IF I had to give up 1 headset either the quest2 or the G2 I would probably give up the G2 (esp when you consider the G2 is double the cost).

Well I'm glad I've ordered a halo head strap from Aliexpress as I just bought FitXR and I don't feel 100% comfortable with the standard strap, it feels like it might come off. Damn you big head.
