***Official 2010 F1 thread***

So how will a budget cap across-countries work?

For instance USF1 can do more development with 45mil euro than say McLaren can due to local markets / economic conditions / pay rates and so on.
I believe that this is one of the sticking points between the FIA & FOTA.

The FIA wanted to be able to send in auditors to investigate what teams were spending; the teams were very unhappy about this and I believe that the FIA have now agreed that the auditors involved will be wholly independent
Mosley said the proposed budget limits would be enforced by an independent auditor in an attempt to overcome the teams' reluctance to allow the governing body access to their accounts.
As a result, the auditors (believed NOT to be a reference to Arthur Andersen) will probably be quite incapable of doing the job but will still demand a huge fee :D

The best bit was a line I picked out of one of the many releases over the last couple of days that suggested that the proposed penalty for spending more than you are supposed to is......

...a fine. :D :D

So if you've got money to burn you can spend what you like anyway :D

If you were the CEO of Renault, would you want random people snooping around your company accounts?

Alonso would race in rebel series
Renault's two-time world champion Fernando Alonso says he will race in a breakaway series if his team do not sign up for the 2010 Formula 1 season
FOTA meets on Thursday
Members of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) are meeting on Thursday in order to discuss the FIA's final offer with regards to the ongoing dispute between the two parties. FIA president Max Mosley made clear to teams on Wednesday that he is willing to search for a compromise, albeit with a budget cap remaining, as the teams discuss the final proposal offered by the governing body.
USF1... not a Mickey mouse outfit
Another Letter from Mosley

Hilarious stuff. The breakaway is posturing and even if it happened it would fail. The teams need someone to control them as they cannot ever agree on anything. Where would they race. Who would televise it and the media is way too canny to start backing it. Any critism of F1 and your media/paddock pass gets removed.

They would end up racing under a budget cut anyway because the f1 money and everything that goes with F1 would be gone.

Oh and if it does happen my money is on Ferrari to win the series.

I'd be much happier now to see max let the teams have their own way and the grid start to fall apart as no one can afford to compete anymore.

The teams are clueless as to how the public have been falling away from watching f1 year in year out as it's become so onesided that its pointless entering to compete against a team that can outspend you 5-1 and test constantly.

I was laughing listening to Five Live this morning when they used Brawn as an example that Max was wrong and that a small privateer team can still win F1.

Lets be honest if F1 was still running last seasons reg Ferrari would have already caught Brawn for pace with 24/7 testing.

I'm almost past caring, I would be happy to see this sport that has cared little for the fans implode on itself. The complete self interest of the teams and lack of care for the fanbase, a new series would be as popular as A1gp.

As I said in the other thread, it's just a chess move. However I don't agree. they want transparency. The rules would be clear and the same rules apply to every one.

Transparency? Since when has F1 ever played by transparent rules the same for everyone.

As I say these teams will be far to busy arguing with each other in a new series to make rules. It will fail, the teams wont have enough outlets to generate enough revenue to pay for everything.

Lets see how much money it takes for them to get a series up a running.

The teams will take the sponsorship and fans with them. especially as the drivers have said they will stay with the teams. The thing is FOTA has been doing well over the last year and have all agreed on ways to cut costs and help new teams. No reason why this can't carry on.

Max is still refusing to extended today deadline. So this evening could be very interesting.

What i never understood about the budget cap is, teams are running about 400mil just now, mosley wants that down to 40 mil, what is gonna happen with the remaining 360 mil?

The team would surely still earn the same amount of money, he just wants them to spend less.

Bad news last night with F1 splitting up in fact pretty much the worst news ever. I hope negotiations and whatever still carries on to sort all this mess but I can't help but feel it is game over. The FIA have been quite clear about saying they needed to let the other potential teams know by today if they had a grid slot :( But the new teams may now be put off now none of the big teams/manufacturers are in the series.

Both the FIA and the FOTA have been a bunch of donkeys on this one. The FIA because they knew the sport has to change and reduce costs but for getting the format of the cost cutting wrong and especially the budget cap was to low (with dealing with big business here). The FOTA for not really sitting down and discussing it in the last week - the new series decision seemed to have been made.

Now they have a whole load of work to set up and run a new series with the 8 teams. Will they field more cars each - how will the car at the back feel about being left behind, how will everyone feel about a Ferrari 1-2-3. Will they have customer cars, how will the other manufacturers feel about there car being beaten and their coverage being sidelined by 4-6+ Ferraris? Will they be able to hold it together with the manufacturers who are only here to promote their car sales. How will they attract new teams with the higher costs - look at the last few years only Super Aguri made the grid with help from Honda!

FOTA statement in full http://www.crash.net/Formula+One/News/148520/1/the_fota_statement_in_full.html. Note the lack of on behalf of Renault.

One good thing though perhaps the Max and Bernie show will finally end and we will get some sensible people looking after both series! I'd imagine Bernie is not a happy bunny right now!

I don't think we'll see a break away championship. I expect F1 in 2010 will be similar to this year with maybe one or two of the existing teams pulling out and two or three new teams joining the sport.

If
it goes ahead I would imagine it would be almost identical to this year, with just a few tweaks. No reason why they couldn't invite new teams in and supply customer parts.

No they just wouldn't need to raise the funds for the other xxx millions. More companies could afford to come in as title sponsors if xx millions was enough instead of xxx millions. Teams could actually make a profit.

40 million is way too low, we all know that. Plus it's too hard to regulate. I don't understand why it's not just done on a head count. The testing ban though has been fantastic for saving money.

The easy way around being sued is for ferrari to turn up at the GP, and not race. Or just mod this years car and put one lap in a race.

That I would like to see.

they might try, but unless they got anything in their contracts they wont win.

They have it's called the concorde agreement and Bernie knows he has them by the balls. He has already said he will sue them and he would win.
