Nope. Abit have the sense to use a removable BIOS chip. It's just a case of popping out the old one and inserting the new one.

Hello, I've only just seen this & replied to your e-mail & yes I was using a Q6600 with this motherboard using an older bios.I'm gonna ask Nelly what Bios he was running, wonder if it was one previous to the Wolfdale's being released?

I really wish I knew you had the E8400 as I would have flashed it to the latest bios, dont you know anyone with an E2140 or something similar??
With the clearCMOS switch not being in run & the JMicron not being in IDE (which afaik is BIOS default) it sounds to me as if you may be the 2nd user of that mobo? Now, I came into this thread looking for a guide in effect for any problems that might arise during the installation, none of these are listed in the OP's original post.. would it be possible for them to be entered so that future noobs like myself have a good chance ?

They certainly aren't common problems nor are the RAID issues (albeit as I previously mentioned ICH9R has had a no. of reported HDD incompatibilities notably with Raptors on many mobos).
Personally I had no issues RAID'ing my 36gb Raptors on this board. Tho I didn't try doing it with XP.
Can I ask a really dumb question? I noticed in the specs for this board that it only officially supports DDR2 800 & 667, I'm running Ballistix 8500 so does that mean that I can only run it at 400MHz and not it's rated speed of 533MHz?
Whats the benefit of a P45 motherboard over a P35?
Also can you use PC8500 Ram for the Abit IP35 Pro? I would imagine it would be needed when overclocking?
the IP35 Pro will run RAM upto ~DDR2 1200 relatively easily assuming that the RAM is capable.
Over that it gets tricky & it's certainly not 1 of the best P35 mobos for RAM overclocking as some like the P5K will get over DDR2 1300.
Of course whether there is actually much to be gained by doing so is a bit of a moot question.
It's definitely 1 of the best overall P35 mobos though & it's now being sold cheaply for what it is now that the IP35 Pro XE has arrived (basically the same as an IP35 Pro V1.1 just with official 1600fsb support & different coloured heatsinks - you can even flash the XE BIOS to a Pro V1.1 & it will run).
**** have it on Today Only for £78.
P45 will have improved Crossfire performance (dual x8 PCI-E 2.0 instead of x16+x4 PCI-E 1) but that's about it.
Also has a different southbridge but that doesn't sound as if it has changed as much as was expected/hoped for
Trying to get to grips with this board and a Q6600.
Has anyone come across any problems when increasing the MCH voltage? The reason I ask is that when I have it set at 1.23 it seems fine. When I up it to 1.29 windows doesn't seem to load quite right. The realtek audio device doesn't work - displays a red cross in the system tray - and the tray icon for my wireless card fails to appear. I was wondering if this could be a heat issue with the northbridge and was wondering if refitting with MX-2 and doing the bolt mod might help things. Any opinions?
