**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Nope. Abit have the sense to use a removable BIOS chip. It's just a case of popping out the old one and inserting the new one.

Brilliant! I'll wait for a reply as to the current Bios version, and if it's an older one, I might get a fresh one from there, or possibly just get an old 775 CPU instead and upgrade myself, will have a think. At worst, you'll see this board on the MM! :D

I'm gonna ask Nelly what Bios he was running, wonder if it was one previous to the Wolfdale's being released?
Hello, I've only just seen this & replied to your e-mail & yes I was using a Q6600 with this motherboard using an older bios.

I really wish I knew you had the E8400 as I would have flashed it to the latest bios, dont you know anyone with an E2140 or something similar??

Mate's got an E6600, hopefully that would work? Or failing that, any older 775 CPU should work too I presume?

PS, never even thought to mention the E8400, just assumed it work, but then we all know what they say about assumption.....

Please excuse me for possibly being a bit daft people, but I installed this motherboard yesterday and its been a complete nightmare !

Problem 1 - Press power switch and nothing comes on, no fans or anything, Post LCD display box is saying " CC " which related to the CMOS in clear mode.. eventually discovered that the little switch on the back near the PS/2 port was in the erase setting, flick to default and pc turns on \0/

Problem 2 - I create my RAID 0 array using my 2 x 74gb Raptors, press F6 at the windows " show me a raid driver screen " .. put floppy in, select file.. get the " Starting windows setup " then blue screen of death everytime. Only way to fix this was to go onto another pc, download " Nlite " add the RAID / SATA driver into the windows install package and make a custom boot disk.. NOT IMPRESSED.

Problem 3 - It takes AGES to install anything from my IDE DVD-RW drive, I eventually discover that this is because its stuck in PIO mode.. because my " JMicro " thing in the BIOS was not set to IDE..

Now, I came into this thread looking for a guide in effect for any problems that might arise during the installation, none of these are listed in the OP's original post.. would it be possible for them to be entered so that future noobs like myself have a good chance ? :D

Cheers.

EDIT - I would also like to add.. that my Scythe Ninja fits this board with no real problems IMO and its not on the compatable list :p

what bios you using, cos mine came wit 1.14 and I had no probs at all and ive got a E8400. Booted up first time with eveything on the board and vista went on without any problem. Its been the most trouble free board Ive had.

With the clearCMOS switch not being in run & the JMicron not being in IDE (which afaik is BIOS default) it sounds to me as if you may be the 2nd user of that mobo?
They certainly aren't common problems nor are the RAID issues (albeit as I previously mentioned ICH9R has had a no. of reported HDD incompatibilities notably with Raptors on many mobos).

Definately not a second hand mobo, all cables etc were wrapped in their new packets and the box the board was in , hadn't been tampered with from the look of it..

I remember changing the JMicron to see if it would get my raptors to work at the windows setup :o I definately didn't set the CMOS clear at the back though.. weird :p

Can I ask a really dumb question? I noticed in the specs for this board that it only officially supports DDR2 800 & 667, I'm running Ballistix 8500 so does that mean that I can only run it at 400MHz and not it's rated speed of 533MHz?

Personally I had no issues RAID'ing my 36gb Raptors on this board. Tho I didn't try doing it with XP.

Vista ?

I'm led to believe that the drivers required to detect the Intel raid mathingybobby are preloaded onto the Vista disk.

A quick google brought up this > http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-101-OK now if OcUk sell it as a bundle, then it must surely work ?

EDIT - Also found the below on a Bit.tech forum, would have posted a link but there were competitor advertisements Everywhere lol

Whats the benefit of a P45 motherboard over a P35?

Also can you use PC8500 Ram for the Abit IP35 Pro? I would imagine it would be needed when overclocking
?

the IP35 Pro will run RAM upto ~DDR2 1200 relatively easily assuming that the RAM is capable.
Over that it gets tricky & it's certainly not 1 of the best P35 mobos for RAM overclocking as some like the P5K will get over DDR2 1300.
Of course whether there is actually much to be gained by doing so is a bit of a moot question.

It's definitely 1 of the best overall P35 mobos though & it's now being sold cheaply for what it is now that the IP35 Pro XE has arrived (basically the same as an IP35 Pro V1.1 just with official 1600fsb support & different coloured heatsinks - you can even flash the XE BIOS to a Pro V1.1 & it will run).
**** have it on Today Only for £78.

P45 will have improved Crossfire performance (dual x8 PCI-E 2.0 instead of x16+x4 PCI-E 1) but that's about it.
Also has a different southbridge but that doesn't sound as if it has changed as much as was expected/hoped for

i've just noticed in the bios you can change the cpu multiplier to 8.5 (i havent actually applied it) i thought core2duo's multipliers were locked (8.0 in my case) can i assume that would just refuse to boot

Trying to get to grips with this board and a Q6600.
Has anyone come across any problems when increasing the MCH voltage? The reason I ask is that when I have it set at 1.23 it seems fine. When I up it to 1.29 windows doesn't seem to load quite right. The realtek audio device doesn't work - displays a red cross in the system tray - and the tray icon for my wireless card fails to appear. I was wondering if this could be a heat issue with the northbridge and was wondering if refitting with MX-2 and doing the bolt mod might help things. Any opinions?

What's the heat temps say?

I found my pwm/mosefets were the worst effected. Alarms went off all over one it hit 107 degrees

But I was at 3.8Ghz running prime95. I put a fan on it and it's back in the 60's now and I plan to do the remount with ceramique and bolt mod at a later date. Trying to enjoy my new build for now. It took me about 4 days to get it up and running

I'm running my E8400 3ghz @ 3.5ghz on the Abit IP35 Pro XE board with stock cooler, in a Lian Li PC-P60 case (ice-cool case!) and cpu temp hardly exceeds 30degrees :)

How can I go further?

now measure those temps in something like coretemp and think again, if you want to go further i suggest you just keep doing what you have been up til now (to get it to 3.5), just be methodical and take small steps changing onething at a time

also if you haven't allready, have a read of the 'sticky' guide in the 'ocing and cooling' sub forum

nice to see the OP's initial first post has been updated..... ;) NOT.

Cmon please add some more stuff.. I'm pretty sure I said somewhere in the thread that the " Scythe Ninja Rev.B " fits the board fine.

I want to push my E8400 up to 4GHZ now and try and get it stable.. its currently at 3825 ( 450 x 8.5 ) with my Cas4 6400 Corsair DHX ram @ 1:1 ( 900 in bios, 450 in windows )

Can someone please tell me what safe voltages I can run in the bios ? ( MB Volts etc )

I have no idea and trauling through this thread will take me too long..... thnx
