*** Official AMD 7990 Owners Thread ***

So Matt...

On Monday when I receive my 7990, what would your 'perfect' setup steps include to get it up and running as smoothly as possible?

I've seen your bios flash thread and will do the steps in that but are there any tips and tricks you would recommend?

I have 1 side intake fan, 1 front intake fan, 1 rear exhaust fan.

Thanks,
Jack

My advice would be try and have a slightly positive pressure case. That means more intake fans than outtakes, with dust filters. With a 7990 you'll need to get the heat out of the case asap so a side exhaust fan or two that sits on top of it is ideal for this. If you can try to get another intake fan in your case somewhere to keep positive pressure.

Another thing id suggest is remove a couple of pci brackets from around the gpu, giving it more air to breathe. If you setup positive pressure correctly then his hot air will be naturally forced out all the gaps in the case.

You should flash the bios as per my thread. Not sure why i linked to it as we're already in the thread. :D Then you should setup gpu overlays as per this thread so you can monitor things closely and make sure it works to perfection, ie no core clock throttling, dropping and fairly constant gpu usage at 90-99% while gaming/benching.

To run 2 7990's tho as I already have one.

Oh, erm not sure on that. Could be cutting it fine. I think Catonia suggested 1200W psu for 2x7990's.

Lol think il get one, maybe overkill at the moment but at that price it's a steal.do you think my ocz zx1000 will be able to cope.

63amp recommended I think I read? 650w+ should be OK but 750w is preferable to give a bit of headroom.

*edit* for two 850+, someone was running 3 on a 1000 but it wouldn't do 4 and got sold in MM last week.

Let me know when you redeem your games. When are you going to receive your card?

Monday - I'll try it then. Apparently some people have been successful in redeeming their vouchers in November so we'll see!

Thanks Matt for the excellent tips! I have spare fans around so I will add an extra few to the setup and see how it goes. Assuming you have a tower case like me, have you considered tilting your case so that it is horizontal? That way the hot air will naturally rise up out of the side exhaust fan, as well as being pulled out!

What's your thoughts?

Good idea but unfortunately my case lives on my glass desk. If i laid it out id have very little room. :D

VTX3D HD 7990 Ati Radeon,I know OC gpu is lottery but this card got custom pcb and 3x8pin power connectors which allow more juice for the card.
So can vtx3d be higher OC?
