I dont mind if the card squeals, hopefully i can tame that with using vsync/cap fps.

But as I listen to music using Open headphones, I dont want to hear buzzing whilst browsing the web.

Update, Gpu-z reports that the card in idle is at 150/300 (mem/gpu(, dragging a window around makes the clocks shoot up to 1000/1500.

Sorry man, Its silent in windows. Im in windows 8.1 though not sure if that makes a difference with dual monitors. Got a movie on VLC playing now and browsing web and no whine or squeal.

i7 or pray for mantle.

Even an i7 gets some minor bottlenecking at 1080p. Its just too low a res to strain a 7990 in BF4. You could try increasing resolution scale a bit.

I wouldn't expect it to bottleneck at just 70 fps :(
I think I'll pray for Mantle :p

Also my card seems to run fine with memory at 1700 :)

how many psu do you have?

A lot.

Honestly if someone can try this:

http://guiminer.org/guiminer-scrypt.html

With 7970 low intensity settings (intensity should be 13)

You can use this pool if you don't have one: http://wemineltc.com/

Create a new CGminer for each GPU on the 7990 too... I pretty much guarantee it will lock your PC.

Lower intensity to 12 so it does not stress the card so much and it runs fine. But then its really not worth running over other card options :(

Wish 7970's were still available at a decent price :(

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried mining litecoins with a gigabyte 7990? I bought 10 of them and they seem to just instantly crash, yet run furmark etc fine...

PSU is Corsair RM1000 so I think they should work.....

Cheers,

Buy some more PSUs. Running ten 7990s with one PSU is not recommended.

Also make sure to connect each 7990 with two different rails. Some Fortron/Seasonic/BQT come with cables for two GPUs sharing one rail. Also lower your GPU voltage.

Mine came in the post today, can't get it running proprly yet.

Un-installed old drivers and re-installed the latest. When web browsing the window bounces constantly and is really straining my eyes. :o was fine before I updated to the latest driver.

Also no option of crossfire in CCC at all, benching the card shows gpu2 not in use and the core clock on afterburner shows 500 with the memory at 750, well below what it should be.

Plan to update the motherboard bios (New today also as my old MSI broke) and then run LtMatts bios for the 7990, fingers crossed it then works properly.

Interesting..

The buzzing happens only when I move Chrome's Windows around, and the buzzing isnt instant either, i have to move my mouse back and forth for about 5 seconds before the buzzing starts and it increases in volume the longer i drag chrome around the desktop.

I disabled Hardware Acceleration In Chrome, buzzing gone! But why do I have to do this whilst some of you obviously don't.

My 2nd gpu is stuck at 99% at idle too (reported by latest afterburner stable), looking around people suggest installing the latest drivers, which I did at first.

Anyway, no more buzzing at the desktop, phew.

Update :

Running Vsync causes games to go into slow motion, dead slow framerate.
Capping at 59fps with vysnc on doesn't mute the coil whine. The coil whine is making a tcking sound whilst in Assassins creed : Blag flag, sounds like tick tick tick tick (really fast), if I pause the game the ticking stops for a brief second and then changes frequency.

With my old 7970 running vsync always stopped the whine.

Should I rma this card?
