*** Official AMD Phenom II X6 1055T & 1090T Overclocking Thread ***

upping the multipler shouldnt damage the cpu ... just make the system unbootable without a BIOS reset ??? I stand to be corrected on that one though :D

upping the volts is what would kill a cpu if you go too far .. like shoving a car cigarette lighter into your mains socket @ 240v ..

at the mo the cpu is happy on stock volts at 3.8Ghz doing prime95 (64bit version if that makes a diff) but as a relative noob at clocking I dont know how long to leave it before assuming its stable 24/7

Cozzy

EDIT UPDATE : OK we have a failure on 2 cores after 10 mins or so after upping the Multipler to 19X on stock volts

OK next stage .. going for broke :D

again using AMD Overdrive to set the clock in Win7 x64

Multi 20X VID 1.42v clock = 4011Mhz running prime95(x64) blend test

TMPIN0 39C
TMPIN1 50C

I know someone will complain its thr wrong test or something but hey Im doing my best so far :D

I will certainly give it to me bedtime :D so that will be close on 8 hours if not over

currently very pleased with the temps after 15 mins ( i know not long ) but the temp is between 49C & 51C dependant on the H50 fan speed kicking up or down

will try multi tasking while prime is running but only web and maybe media playing :D

EDIT n UPDATE

screenie003.jpg

after an hour ... hope the pics are OK at this size and no against any forum rules

bah to overdrive ;) Nice oc with them temps though mate!

Got home to find my PC had gone to just a black screen (denoting I need more juice on the CPU) - So it managed a 20hour run perfectly fine on prime95 but thats not good enough for me - I want 24hours lol!.

Numpty here just realised that all my case fans were set to low aswell! - no wonder the super high bloomin temps!. Set them back to high for the purpose of stress testing and also bumped up the volts from 1.42v to 1.425v - that should do for a 24 hour run :)

Set prime off going again - will report back this time tommorow ;) - best of luck to all those who got they're chips today - let us know how it goes.

well temps are up n down a bit with 49C at low and 52C at high ... not actually seen it hit 53C myself yet

my case fans are on low but I have 2 windows open .. room temp is 26.5C still but it felt a lot warmer an hour or so ago ... sun has gone so maybe cooling a bit .. may be a slight concern for high summer as my room is known to hit 32C or higher

black screen wasnt screen saver wasit ??? lmao wishful thinking .. I should imagine after 20 odd hours it should be fairly stable .. I blooming hope so as I aint testing mine beyond tonight at around 8 hours :D

Considering Im using a slighty flaky beta BIOS on a 790FX board I gotta say Im impressed with getting 4 Ghz as a noob who knows not what he is doing ... specially when you consider all I did is change two sliders in win7 so far

1055 crapped out at 4GHZ.

Meh, I'll do the weekend for 3.8GHZ

thats still quite impressive ... not what you hoped for but still good value .. maybe a BIOS update will improve things in time to come (if its even possible)

still no slouch at 3.8Ghz shame you cant swap out under distance sellers act but I guess they may object to you having used the product

May have to rethink my 1090 now ... 4Ghz @ 1.42v 52C after 2 and half hours running prime95 and the thing stutters playing Tiger Woods Online at the same time ... grrrrr LOL

@Cozman, why would you prime and game at the same time mate?

It's obviously going to stutter, prime is using 100% of your CPU, if you want to test GPU and CPU at the same time use Furmark and Prime95 or LinX/IBT...

Also you might find you will get even better o/c results using the BIOS instead, but it can be a PITA learning how to manually oc...

Yeah I know I was messing about and just doing something rather than stare at prime ticking over test after test .. lol

weird thing is when I ran TW online the temps actually dropped 2C as well

approaching 3 hours without a glitch apart from game stutter , stable temps within 3C fluctuation , no errors (touchs wood) , just want to test a x264 encode at 4 Ghz now ... at stock the X6 was faster than a [email protected] so should be fairly good @4GHz

EDIT: .. if you didnt know Tiger Woods online is a browser based game so shouldnt be too much strain on cpu or gpu ... but does cause strain due to network use

Prime isn't aggressive.
If one core's being used for a game etc, prime won't be using it much at all.

And I'm fairly annoyed at the 1055T, although, it proves the fact that they're overhyped.
1090T should be 4GHZ stable.

But tbf, I'm perfectly happy with 3.8GHZ on 6 cores as it cost me 153 quid lol.

Boogie on down the plug hole ...

Torture Test Completed 153 tests in 3 hours 10 minutes - 1 error 0 warnings
1 core got too hot ??? temps have sudden drop to 45C with 5 cores still priming :(

Not sure if its related but as soon as a core failed I got emails and an anti-virus update incomming ... possible it pushed it over the edge .. lol

Ok, I got my 1090T today, havent had a chance to play with OCing yet.

Im getting a bit confused on temps tho. Does heat go up massively when OCing? Cus i get max temps in stress test on stock clocks of up to about 47*C.

With my new H50 installed (included fan acting as exhaust only), i get max temps of 36*C.

This is the core temperature of course.

Also, how do I find out the VID of my ship? I usually use CoreTemp, but it keeps changing. Do I just have to turn off power savings to find out? Or is there a prog which tells you the chips programmed vid.

Cheers.

Hi

if you are using a H50 then the rear radiator fan is best as an intake ... unless you add a second fan for push/pull config ... you might wish to change that around if you have other case fan/s exhausting the hot air

Other than that the temps are up for some and down for others .. Im now idling at 34C with a 4Ghz clock and the volts up n down from 1.35 to 1.47

have a google for HWMonitor or use everest for more details than speedfan provides

OK folks I'm back with a different approach

using BIOS I have disabled Turbo Core upped the multi to 20X and left the cpu volts as the board reported them to be 1.475 as stock

this will be a short visit if i get a blue/black screen when i start prime .. lol

Cozzy

EEEEEEEEEEEK .. the CPUVcore is being auto set to 1.49 by the motherboard while priming ... can anyone smell burning .. lol

Edit should add i let the motherboard default ram to 1066 speed for the testing phase but it is rated 1333 and can do 1600 tried and tested by Corsair

Ive got a Silverstone Fortress FT01 case. Positive pressure and has a fat 180mm fan right above rad, no way im using corsair fan as intake, itll just suck hot air thats being expelled out the back and completely screw up case flow.

I think it depends on your case flow as to which way to mount.

Also using everest already, wouldnt use anything else, didnt know if something told you your chips actual vid like you get on intel chips thats all.

Also what temps are people using? Im seeing about 10*C difference between "cpu" temp and the actual core temp.

Currently in a not so stressful game, 37*C on "cpu", 26*C core. Fans only on 800 rpm, lol.

im getting 5 or 6C difference from core temp to real reading (so i was informed TMPIN in HWMonitor)

so I think you within what appears to be a norm ... stressing at 4Ghz with 1.49v my temps are 51C and topped out so far at 53C which is same i have seen all afternoon although room temp is slowly dropping now

I think everyone is gonna have a different experience in clocks and temps as you would expect ... hope your pleased so far with your purchase .. I know I am with mine even at stock let alone clocked
