*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

I am trying to figure out how to use gpu-z to tell if my gtx295 is running the demo with both gpu's or not. How can I tell? I can't work out what I am meant to be looking for.

I am downloaded the sli fix so am hoping both are running now!

Guys,

Got a weird request

I have fraps but don't enable any buttons except Pause/break for screenies

I have overlay in a top corner so never needs moving

Can anyone tell me what keys are Not used by arma2, so i can use another button to record

If it matters i have a G15 kb with 6 G buttons

Cheers in advance, as i'm quickly going round the bend trying different keys lol

I can't seem to get the Arma2 demo to work. I get this message everytime I try to open it.

Any idea what that means? I have tried reinstalling.

I'm reluctant to buy the full game because I also had problems with the previous Arma demo.

Direct X update, it fixed mine.

Surely use the G buttons, that's what they are there for?

Totally agree, sounds like they got all the programmers together for an hours overtime and let them loose with a mic.

Just started the game and if im honest I cant remember playing a game that feels as unpolished.

Agreed. I genuinely feel like I've regressed a few years in game development. Sure it's big, but that seems to be about the only thing it has going for it at the moment.

The voice overs aside, one of the main things I look for in an FPS is that when I fire a gun at someone, It has to feel like i've fired a gun at them. This comes down to two main factors, a) How the gun reacts when I press the button, recoil, sound, muzzle flash, etc, and b) How the recepient of the bullet acts, ragdoll, blood, etc. The first part they have down well, and I like the touch of being able to hear the bullet casings hit the floor. The second part they have down nothing short of absolutely diabolical. Sometimes i've hit someone, the blood has spewed (If you can call it blood) then it takes a split second for the 'death' animation to kick in. Which seems to have all the finese of a brick wall. Soldiers literally fall over like they would in OFP1. I think 8 years is enough to develop some slightly better ragdolls! This unfortunately ends up rendering a good deal of the game worthless to me.. As i'l end up hiking for a while to get to a good spot, go prone, get out my Sniper rifle, find a bloke effin' miles away, range it, shoot him, only to be rewarded with what looks like him bedding down for a cheeky snooze. Military simulation or not, it comes down to shooting people at the end of the day. If it doesn't feel like you're actually shooting people (Within reason of course, we're still using a mouse) then a huge part of the game is lost IMO.

To top it off the movement is clunky and the mouse movement is slow and laggy. It generally just feels incredibly unpolished. I'm also sure we got over performance issues with Vista ages ago? Crying shame! My hopes now lay with OFP2 :(

There shouldnt be if the seller is honest and doesnt scribble down their cd key before selling it so you wouldnt be able to play online at the same time. Are you going to find a 2nd hand copy for much cheaper, or find one at all, at this point though?

Have you ever actually shot a person in real life ? how would you know what it feels like then :P

Arma is a simulation not an fps, with those minor issues aside its still a very addictive and engrossing game.

I too, was initially dissapointed, with shooting a gun in ArmA2. I think partly because it felt disjointed from my mouse movements; also because there was a delay between me shooting and the target going down. (All my memory of this is from the shooting range in bootcamp.) To be absolutely honest, my first impressions of the shooting in AA3 were better then ArmA2.
It felt quite visceral. (If that is the word.)
Now I am used to it, it is a different story.
It is the closest a game has come to simulating a real firefight. O.K. maybe I can not say that as I have not, (In this lifetime.:p) actually been under fire.
It is though, period.
I could go on.
I guess you have not played much as you dont even know you can turn "Blood" up in options, if that is your cup of tea.
Also because I felt similar to you at first, about the shooting and movement; I believe that most games, with a style you are not used to, you need to practise. I bet with your first fps, you were crap. I remember going online in my first fps and getting sleighed not having much of a clue.
Well this, we should call it a war sim, as it is getting that blooming close, is complex. I liken it too learning to play guitar, to the noob it will feel "clunky", though if you stick with it, it will become second nature and then you can, and will, kick some ass. :D
The game deserves your patience and you will be rewarded.
