*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Does anybody know if Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 works on this board, the website only lists PC2-6400 Crucial memory?

ive got 39 degress accross all 4 cores after 1hr of prime 95 on standard settings /no lapping , low case fan speed (p182), going to try and overclock..never done this before!..anything else i should base line before i start?

My First Overclock

well that was too easy to be true..

set bios to manual and FSB to 400..changed nothing else ...now at 3.6Ghz....temps are 59,59,58,58 after .5hr prime 95..

would 8hrs on prime 95 useing maximum heat test be conclusive as stable?
what do i need to run to confirm everything will be rock solid.

expecting something to go pop any second.

Hi guys system is up and running but need some help.

Whats the best way to monitor temperature of cpu from windows? Currently on vista 64..

Thanks

EDIT: i tried coretemp 0.95 but i just get errors all the time when i try to run it

didnt realise that by changing the fsb the voltage increased. Asus had auto set vcore to 1.4+ (1.4 in cpu-z after vdroop if im using the correct lingo). manually put the vore to 1.375 (1.280 in cpu-z) and retesting...prime 95 temps down to 51 degrees. Although asus auto was too much it looks like it was pretty close.

is their anything else i should start changing from auto..eg. would the chipset voltages have been increase..i guess i want to decrease voltages whereever possible?

should i be trying to reduce the vdroop..ive heard of something called a pencil mod..is it necessary?

The V Core should only be .02v lower in CPUZ than in the bios. Check you have the latest version of CPUZ. This board doesn't need a pencil mod, or indeed any mod.

V Drop = lower CPU voltage in windows than Bios
V Droop = lower CPU voltage when under load.

The bios settings I posted above are the main settings to take note of. Loadline callibration is to counter V Droop.

Install Asus PC Probe that is on the cd that came with the package.

Hi, no no no, probe is the worst program you could use to monitor your cpu temps. It will either give you higher readings than your core, or lower, depending on which bios version you have. The most trusted method is coretemp, and for vista x64 you'll need this http://forums.erodov.com/local_links.php?catid=18

They must have done something with the CPU temp sensing it's a mile off now (unrealistically low), it's gone down by a bout 15-20C from 903.
