*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Hi

I have just got this board and the cpu and Memory in the sig running on Vista 32. I can play games for an hour or so then I have my nvidia driver stop working. I have tried a few drivers now, I have installed the hotfixes. I have ran memtest and orthos and I dont have any errors or crashes. I am at a loss at what is causing this instability, its becoming quite annoying now.

Everything is at stock btw, I have set the dram in the bios to the suggested 8500 settings.

Anyone got ideas?

Computer resetting

Just bought from OCUK:
Asus Maximus Formula
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX
Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra Watercooling Kit

I have an existing Asus GeForce 8800 GTS and IDE Maxtor HD

My problem is I can't install windows xp my computer starts the install but keeps rebooting during the install itself? its peeing me of a bit another problem I didn't realise before buying this mother board is theres only 1 IDE connector and I have 3 IDE devises 2x HD and 1 Plextor DVD player. Is it possible the hard drive is not compatible? does it need a SATA-11 drive or could one of the new componants be faulty? Regards Steve.

Thats one hot room you have there :)

1.5 volts is fine for the nb , depends what fsb you want to get out of it 1.5 should be good for 400 fsb and probably more

0907 is pretty good , i am on 1004 at the moment , it has some issues but is stable for me at a higher clock

oh nice did not know that did anyone did it yeT?

Still looking at the thread on xtreme and seeing how people are doing with it , if it shows to pay off i might give it a go , the only Rampage bios available is 0207 which is a beta release and as this is the bios you would be stuck with after the flash you would be waiting for rampage updates to solve any issues that you find, so for now im looking at what the guys are doing on xtreme with interest

Just got my self a Maximus Formula, do I need to remove the heatpipe arrangement and apply some proper TIM or will the Asus stuff be okay,

Going to have a read of the convert to Rampage thread, may even try it myself

Just left mine as it was,i`d be careful flashing it to the rampage as i think i read once this is done it cant be reversed so your warranty will be dead.

If you are going to remove the asus heatsink compound i believe its best done before you use the board otherwise it goes very hard and its possible to pull the nb off its socket

Not fired up the board yet, would you advise me to remove the heatsink and apply something like MX-2 or should I just stick to the Asus stuff, I'm a lazy sod sometimes, don't want to do any more work than I need to:)

I got the water cooled chipset so i didnt bother re seating the nb cooler but if i had got the air cooled version and the nb does get quite hot i would probably say MX2 will be better that the asus gunk then do it

Ive just read a review that stated that the coolers were so badly seated on the board they had that the watercooling temperatures were the same as air cooling.

 i wouldnt like to try and get mine off now it will be well baked , but temp has never been a problem even with the fusion block ! i was going to fit my trusty swiftect mcw30 but never really felt the need

ive found the stock cooling on it awesome, never had more than 25 degrees even in load with an overclocked E8400 at 3.5 GHz. its all in an antec 900 so that might be why :p
