*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

I wish I had seen this thread sooner as I have just received this week but not built as I am waiting for my Q9450 to arrive, an Asus Maximus Formula and 2 x Crucial Ballistix Tracer RED 4GB. Where do I stand on being able to swap this for some corsair ram or the like?

Id talk to the e-tailer , sure they can help you

You think maximus bios is best then ?

no my board is faulty i just flashed it to the rampage to see if it would cure it, it did not so i flashed back so i can rma it.
manual vcore dont work any more can only run on auto.
the rampage seems a lot better bios, but cant test much becase of the vcore prob.

thanks Deluxe1 and andyr that worked fine. i was looking in the wrong place, don't know why i couldn't find it.

So the CPU temp isnt really important, it's the core temps that are? Just wondering as my CPU temp has always been same temp as my cores on my last motherboard. I use everest and CoreTemp to monitor my temps.

thanks :) .

As I am sat here waiting for my new Q9450 to turn up I was having a look around the new Asus Maximus Formula that I had delivered recently. I have a couple of quick question about it:

1. To the left of the two blue usb headers is connector labeled "ADH", what does this do as it is not listed in the manual?

2. Is correct that I should be using the 8 pin rather than the 4 pin power connector in addition to the 20 pin ATX Power?

hi again,

I just changed my CPU cooler because i got a much quieter one and i had to take out everything in order to install it, but when i got all it up and running again it booted up slow, i think it was becasue i changed were everything was plugged in...in a different order and swaped the dvd drive, not sure. But pressed the reset button at the back of the motherboard and everything seems fine again.

So i loaded into the BIOS and changed a couple of thing and when i pressed save settings and exit the computer just shut down for about 5 secs then started up again. Just wondering if this is a normal thing??. Just so i know.

thanks.

If your turned off some CPU functions then yes the PC does shut down and reboot.

hi thanks for the reply...

Yeah..i thought that..well i never changed any CPU functions just disabled a few things, but nothing related to the CPU, it was probably because i pressed the reset button and it needed to shut down and reboot to take effect of the new settings i changed..

My last motherboard didn't do that, just rebooted. I guess it can't be anything else since my temps are fine, so it's not shutting down becasue of that.

thanks...

Question 2/ 4 pin if fine , but 8 pin is supposed to give more stability for quad cores , but i recon its a sell more hardware spinner myself,
Question 1, i dont no

Guys....Is this really the vCore read point? Because I have it set to 1.4v in the BIOS, it says 1.38v via CPU-Z and I get 1.5V from the DMM!!!! Is this a result of flashing to the Rampage BIOS?

****Update***

BIOS SET: 1.3V
BIOS READ: 1.24
CPU-Z READ: 1.280
:confused:DMM READ: 1.45

What's goin on?

Hmmm, I wonder why my board is overvolting the CPU then..... I have just flashed back to the P5E bios and its still doing it?

I'm pretty sure that none of these digital voltage control things are particularly accurate (certainly not to 3 decimal places of a volt), and it might well explain all those people who can do 3.4GHz at stock volts!

So for those that are interested, I'm now running with 4gb Corsair Dominator and ... touchwood.... the machine seems to be stable and happy.

So my crisis is over, thanks to andyr for the spot....

Quite simply, Ballistix tracers and this board do not a stable PC make.....

yes I've heard bad things about Ballistix and these boards...but I am running Ballistix on my P5E and they seem to be doing ok...they only work in slots 1 and 3 for some reason though...2 and 4 make it very unstable.

On a further note, I've just reached 467fsb with my P5E running rampage 219 bios.

not bad for a 110 quid shipped board :)

After reading the posts about the tracer memory breaking in these boards I am getting very nervous.

I currently have the Asus Maximus Formula special edition with 2x1Gb of crucial ballistix tracer 8500. I just received a further 2Gb through the post this morning and am now worried that i have just wasted my money :(

I have not had a problem to date (touch wood), but i guess the proof will be when i add the extra 2Gb

But saying that, I have just checked the Crucial website and it recommends tracer memory as an upgrade........
Im confused; does this problem only relate to the standard maximus formaul, or the special edition as well?

Hi, you guys having issues with, Ballistix Tracers or just plain Ballistixs, there is a difference and perhaps to stop confusion the distiction between which you are referring to should be made...

Just flashed my motherboard with the rampage bios, easy peasy and no bios settings issues..
