*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Hi - another Crucial ballistix pc 8500 user here :S

Was just wondering those of you that are using this ram in this mobo - what settings have you set in the bios ? Or have yoou left it on Auto?

I have been having compatability issues, freezes, BSOD's etc but wondering if there is anything else i can try before i go beg for a refund from crucial.

I see from the manual that you have to plug the CPU Fan into the CHA_FAN1 connector if you are using a dual core cpu, I take it that this is also the case for Quad cores.

If I don't plan to use QFan is this stil necessary?

Yes, same for Quads also.

Hi, huh, does it and where in the manual, as far as I know all CPU fans plus into the CPU_FAN. It is the option fan that can plug into the CHA_FAN1, which of course you don't need...

This what I saw in the manual but it now I re-read it seems to imply that that as Lt Goody says it is talking about the chassis fan and not the cpu fan as I first thought.

Does anyone know what the ADH connector to the left of the two usb headers is for?

I have just fired up my rig for the first time (see signature). Apparently I need to update the BIOS to unleash the full potential of my CPU. Should I go for the 907 bios or is the new 1004 stable enough to use, as I see it is still listed as beta.

What is the safest method to update the bios?

Okay, well i have 4x1gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer 8500 in my Asus Maximus Formula board and have had no problems to date. I have my FSB at 350 with a 9x multiplier. I set the RAM timings to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2V with the frequency set to 1033 (?) - can't remember the exact frequency.

I purchased the first 2GB last september and the second set of 2GB about 2-3 weeks ago. I notice the new set has different heat spreaders on and i can vaguely recall reading somewhere that crucial had done a revision to tracer memory to sort out some of these issues? (correct me if im wrong).

Prob worth mentioning that during this time i have only had one crash (playing Titan Quest) and that was with the 4GB with the above setup....... but it has never BSOD on me. Also sometimes after long gaming sessions it can get quite laggy, but if i pause and leave for 5 mins then resume the lag disappears, which probably means its a heat issue.

Easy flash utility in bios is the best and only one really to use , copy rom to usb and go with either 0907 or 1004 both pretty good , didnt really notice any improvement over 0907 with 1004 though

The 0907 will still give you same message,i think the 1004 is still the beta bios?

Im using the 0907 with my Q9450 and its working fine i just have to press F1 each time i boot up.

i hadnt heard of that one , is there a bug with the new quads then ?

what clocks can you get with the new chip?

I put the 1004 bios on as my Q9450 is a C1 stepping just fired up cpu-z to discover that it has got the cpu running at 2003 Mhz with a multiplier of 6. Do I just need to up the multiplier or something in the bios?

I have a problem with my computer, I have a maximus formula with a q6600 and some gskill 6400 hz memory. Ive got it overclocked under water to 3.7 ghz and it seems stable although I have only primed for a couple of hours. I leave it on 24/7 as Im running boinc but it seems like every morning I get up, the comuter loks like its still on as in the hard drive lightson my caddie are on but the hard drive access lights is not flickering to show access, the water pump and all the fans are running.
Ive read up a bit on this and I'm not sure if it was the hibernate problem, so I think Ive switched off the power saving options in vista 64. Could this be an instability problem (the computer seems to run fine for 5-6 hours) or is there some power saving option that i'm missing? Ive got a usb mouse and keyboard as well.
Any help appreciated as this is annoyiung me now!

does it do the same at 3.6ghz ? as sometimes if you are close to the edge some strange things do happen !

Ive been reading through the formula to rampage thread on extreme systems, ive seen your an active member in a nutshell what is the benefit? Is your computer fully stable? Is it worth me copying your bios settings? hint, hint.
