*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Okay, well i have 4x1gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer 8500 in my Asus Maximus Formula board and have had no problems to date. I have my FSB at 350 with a 9x multiplier. I set the RAM timings to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2V with the frequency set to 1033 (?) - can't remember the exact frequency.

I purchased the first 2GB last september and the second set of 2GB about 2-3 weeks ago. I notice the new set has different heat spreaders on and i can vaguely recall reading somewhere that crucial had done a revision to tracer memory to sort out some of these issues? (correct me if im wrong).

Prob worth mentioning that during this time i have only had one crash (playing Titan Quest) and that was with the 4GB with the above setup....... but it has never BSOD on me. Also sometimes after long gaming sessions it can get quite laggy, but if i pause and leave for 5 mins then resume the lag disappears, which probably means its a heat issue.

Just so you know, the vDIMM overvolts by about .08v....so you're really putting almost 2.3v through your ballistix

Right just bought one of these board from easyrider and I look forward to ending my nightmare with my DS4.

Looking at my rig in sig, is there anything I need to watch out for? I'm concerned about my RAM, any need?

I will take a look over the whole of this thread today, but it's a lot of information to take in.

Any hints on settings etc that'll be great.

Finally does the Fusion CPU block fit fine?

Andy, thanks for the reply

I cant remember, ill have to have a look.
Ive been reading through the formula to rampage thread on extreme systems, ive seen your an active member in a nutshell what is the benefit? Is your computer fully stable? Is it worth me copying your bios settings? hint, hint.

You get a little higher stable overclock with rampage bios or at least the same overclock with a little less cpu volts. also more bios tweaks for memory tuning.

there may be more benefits to come as they will work at the rampage bios to get more out of it where as the MF bios will probably just get new cpu code updates

There isnt a lot in it tbh but its fun doing it :)

Hi Chris dont know about your ram tbh , the fusion fits fine i believe

take a look at post 151 for some basic settings to give you a start

Its not a bad board at all , its the longest i have kept one for a while, cant see the point in an upgrade to a x48 at the moment

do you have the se version ?

My WC setup is at it's limit now anyway, I'd probably have to get a bigger rad or another small loop on the go if it is the SE.

Can't wait to get it. Had my Q6600 to 3.5GHz easy on my old 680i and I'm having to run at stock with the P35 DS4 due to the most irritating problem in the world of it getting stuck in a reboot loop!

So i should try dropping the vDIMM to 2.1v and then the overvolt will make it more like 2.2?

Yeah i would drop it to 2.12ish then run memtest, if it passes then drop some more....test again...etc.

Ballistix tend to fail after a few months above 2.15ish volts

Cool, thanks. I'll prob jump straight in at 2.1v since i'm not actually running the memory at its rated speed of 1066.

Whats the difference between running Orphos memory test and MemTest? Is there a preference?

Orthos ram stress works fine, I just prefer memtest because I don't have to boot into windows to do testing, so I can get back into the bios faster to change settings

I believe the se will work passive anyway so you dont need to include it in the loop if you dont want to

Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone would help me out...

Rarther than make a new thread i thought i'd post here,

I've got this board and been using it for a few weeks now, but i haven't really touched much in the BIOS apart from flashing it. I read somewhere that some of the options in the Advanced CPU Config should be changed. Can anyone tell me what should be changed here please? :

Advanced > CPU Configuration >

CPU Ratio Setting [Auto]
C1E Support [Disabled]
CPU TM Function [Enabled]
Vanderpool Technology [Enabled]
Execute Disable Bit [Enabled]
Max CPUID Value Limit [Disabled]
Intel(R) SpeedStep(TM) Tech [Enabled]

Also in Main > SATA Configuration Enhanced >

I have "Configure SATA as [IDE]" Should i change this? The options are RAID,IDE or AHCI. Would this stop a message i keep getting on boot about a "No master IDE Detected" or something.

Here is my build:

Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Black
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Sound Card

I have my board flashed to v 0907

I haven't overclocked the 6600 yet but am going to do so, so at the moment all the config under "Extreme Tweaker" is set to Auto as well...(all Default).

Thanks for any help!

ahh thanks i disabled all of those settings, not really sure what they all do anyway :P

Yeah the error i am getting on start with this board is:

Pri Slave Hard Disk; S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed
No IDE Master H.D.D Detected!

Then i press F1 to continue.

hi there,

I have my q6600 running at 3gigs so far and it's prime stable. I want to take it up to 3.2 which will be the max i want to go, Just wondering what sort of voltages people have for 3.2?. I have everything on auto so far, except the cpu voltage.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

does anyone use the 3 extras fans which come with this board? i/m using the fusion waterblock but should i use a fan/fans as well?

Just got the SE version of this board and running 4 x 1GB Ballistix 8500 without issue [email protected]. [933]

Only issue I have seen so far is it doesnt like high FSB above 440 with 4 sticks.

Running the fusion block and I expected it to be rubbish but its doing the job very well. The entire chipset heatsink seems very cool. Restricted my flow but I have compensated by turning up the flow.

Very impressed with the board so far. Build quality is probably one of the best boards I have seen.
