*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

I believe max temp is 90 so yours is fine , however cooler the better for top fsb as always

90 degrees!!
Where the hell did someone get 50 was bad I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's from Asus Probe which also got me worried, silly alarm bells for NB and SB temps.
Cheers for the answer, now I will push my fsb over 400 :)

I always use save and exit from the menu and never used f10 if that makes a difference i dont know

Did you get this resolved?

Im having the same problems.

Also copied settings from post 151 :(

new to the board from an ip35-pro so the bios is very different :(

i know my q6600 is good for 4050, but i cant even get it to clock at all, the board just doesnt seem to save the settings!!

using 1004 btw at the moment.

Did you get sorted as i noticed you got a good 3d06 score , i never had this problem on any bios tbh , it was Chris , i dont know how he got on

Hey andyr,

yeah i sorted it out lol. went back to 0904 i think it was? 1004 would not let me clock at all for some reason.

That 3dmark was done with a crap install as well :D just connected the disks up from my ip35-pro raid array and let it fly lol. Was still detecting background devices when that was done. So hope there is more to come yet, Cards were also at stock :D

From the short time i got to play with it lastnight im very impressed with it.

Good to see the power off/on "Feature" is still present in asus boards lol missed it with my ip35-pro. :p

So if anyone has the non-adjustable fsb problem and using 1004 flash back to 0904.

Also what had me fooled for a couple of seconds, the multiplyer, you now have to type it rather than press enter on it as the on screen instructions inform you lol.

I have recently built my new rig the spec of which is:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ Stock
Noctua NH-U12P
Asus Maximus Formula
8 Gb (4x2 Gb) Crucial Ballistix Tracer Red @ Stock
BFG 8800 GTS OC 512Mb
320Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
500Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Everything in the BIOS is standard, which is largely auto. Except for my cpu multiplier which was set to 6 rather than 8.

The two issues that I am having are 1. The high north and south bridge temperatures, and 2.a strange sort of electronic interference sound which seems to be the RAM.

1. This issue only came to light this evening while I had the case open to resolve the other issue I was actually investigating. The room is at 23oC. My case is an Antec P182 and it has two intake fans (one in the upper chamber and one in the lower chamber) and two exhaust fans plus the psu. This isn’t even under a great deal of load, e.g. if I just have cpu-z, pc probe and firefox open the temp of the north bridge hits the 45oC default warning threshold of pc probe after 5 minutes and then keeps going up to about 47oc, this closely followed a couple of minutes later by the southbridge. However the cpu and motherboard temps don’t go up in the same period by more than a degree or two.

2. The main issue I am having is with the RAM which seems to be making a high pitched noise and sounds kind of like a hard drive being accessed when I scroll up and down in application, when in the BIOS it sound more like sort electronic interference. It is defiantly the ram rather than the hard drives making this noise, as it makes a similar noise (which in both situations ties up with the activity lights on top of the ram) even sitting at the BIOS screen with the hard drives disconnected. It makes the noise in windows with even just one of the 4 sticks installed. It does not seem to be an overvolting issue as going by the screen grab below the RAM is at 1.95v and is rated up to 2.2v. I seem to remember reading somewhere about crucial withdrawing support for the X38 chipset. Could this noise be a manifestation of this incompatibility?

Could someone tell me if the voltages in the screen grab below look correct. My spec is in my signature. My north and southbridge temps are around 45oC.

Hi, mine have been stable since 0903, but it's good that yours are now too. I wonder what is so different?

Dunno maybe some hidden timings were changed because up until this BIOS I was on the brink of buying some new RAM.

I tested each stick seperately and they were fine, but put them all in together and problems would arise failing memory tests etc.

It's solid as a rock now.

Hi again, well that's the exact same problem I had with bios versions before 0903, which was cleared up fully by the 0903 and later bios's. So why is then that it took a more recent version to fix yours?
Chris

I've tried all sorts and it refuses to do anything apart from stock. I managed 3GHz once and left it at that out of fear of not being able to get anything better but a power cut ended that.

Trying again and I've settled with stock for now :(
