***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

That's madness! I got over excited buying in a keeper at £120k in january...

Might actually finish L1 this evening, 2nd-9th are separated by 2 points and I am 4th :D

All with their own resources eh.

I showed you the stats of the guy costing 30M. He has 4 1/2* ability. How can i say no? The new CB is 3 1/2 * ability, with 4 1/2* potential. Once again, how can i say no?

He will take Heitinga's place. Heiting used to earn 130k/w, and this guy will earn less than 60k/w.

At least I am compensation in another way :P

After all the loans and contract expirations I ended up with only a few players so I've managed to bring in 28(!!!) in the first window - many are just youngsters though as they were 4-5 star potentials.

Straight into the first team included;

Carlo Cudicini (Free)
Paul Connolly (£65k)
Tiago Gomes (Free)
Ryan Tunnicliffe (Free)
Conor Clifford (Free)
Jonathan Obika (Free)
Nathan Ecclestone (Free)
Joshua King (Free)
Lauri Dalla Valle (Free)

Few other players who are there as backups including;

Shay Facey (Free)
Neil Etheridge (Free)
Tobias Ruhle (Free)
Felix Roth (Free)
Michele Fornasier (Free)

Going OK so far, Joshua King is a goal machine and him/Obika are looking a decent partnership.

Spent a total of £65k on transfers (doubled my wage budget from last season) and sold £825k - not too bad.

Wow... this patch has messed me up big time. Defending back to being appalling :S. Strikers just running through my defence ho stand and watch, why have they changed it? It was fine before this fricking patch. GRRRR.

Just got this. As a non-football playing non-expert it's a bit of a shock :D

I'm used to Fifa 13 on my iphone :o

So.. Can anyone offer any startup tips? I've chosen my team and have got my assistant manager to help with most bits and pieces.

It can be a bit bewildering initially if you're new to the FM series.

These two threads are worth a read I feel, regarding tactics in the main :-

http://community.sigames.com/showth...towards-Playing-FM13-amp-Understanding-the-ME

http://community.sigames.com/showth...urney-from-rage-quit-to-complete-satisfaction

They're worth an initial flick through - if only to tell you why you're loosing games initially, as FM13 is not as forgiving as previous versions. Keep them bookmarked as you'll likely come back to them a little further into the game.

In addition to them, but not to confuse things too much from the off, here's a few things that helped me initially :-

* Look at the numbers of coaches, scouts and physios that your board will allow you to have and sweep the dead wood if possible, filling their ranks with better people where possible. There's an option to auto assign the coaches to their roles once in, which is handy to start off with. If you have a Chief scout they'll sort out the rest of the scouts for you if you'd like them to, which will give you a good spread of knowledge. You can tweak this later if you like.

* Stick with a standard or fairly standard formation for as long as you can put up with the disconcerting and sometimes plain odd results. Things will start to iron themselves out after a while...so long as you're not constantly fiddling with them.

* As a minimum I'd go with one attacking formation for the games you think you should be winning and one defensive one for the tougher games. You can always change them mid game if things aren't panning out. Again, you can vary this more a little later on, to keep the opposition guessing.

* The in game shouts can turn a game around or at least keep the team playing the way you hoped they would in a game, but try not to confuse your players with a barrage of them being active at one time. I tend to have a max of two going at any one time and have "Hassle Opponents" (by far and away the best one, for me anyway), inbuilt to my most frequently used tactics.

Good luck!

*** Re this patch - I'm personally finding things quite a bit smoother now. Ok, I'm playing Liverpool at the moment, but prior to the 13.2 patch they looked like a bunch of school kids on the pitch. Now they're mostly doing what I hoped they would do....mostly.

Yep! Only so much you can do with loans, always a bit nutty building a team with the core being loan players I wont keep.

Anyway Finished the season this afternoon (what better use of a Sunday) AND THIS HAPPENED!

Beat Portsmouth in the semis 1-0 then 4-2 in two very gripping games. Took on Bradford in the final (who had some utter tanks up front) said just enjoy the game and see if we can win, went 2-0 up in the first 20 mins and held on to it! Mad season :D

Best player by a mile is this guy, about to get his first Wales cap whilst I rebuild the squad. (aka buy defenders)

Other notable buy of the season was this guy in midfield, got on a free and he has just dictated everything good in the team, not as many assists or goals as I would have liked but was so key to all of our good build up play.

Next season is going to be a nightmare, ex-prem teams and an away trip to St Marys is going to ruin us week in week out...

Those guys you have signed so far are unbelievable! How are you finding them?? Just scouting like a boss till the turn up??

Great going - congratulations!! All the more so as I believe this is the hardest FM so far.

I could have stated with a lower league team but I'm a sucker for trying to sort out my team first, but also because I did Gillingham for 15 years in FM12...until the sods sacked me for coming 6th in the premiership that is. I just couldn't face another long struggle from the off with this version, let alone start at a non league club, but I know it will happen at some point...

I know how you feel about loans :( I hate them unless its some young player who I am testing out and want to buy/develop in the future. Do you put a future fee on them? Even if its way out of budget, do it. I find that sometimes, around February time, if you enquire about the player, the team will ask you for around half of the future fee.

That regen striker is great  He looks good even for mid table prem teams. Well done on promotion too.:D

The DM will sign in summer, so is the CB.
They are all transfer listed. Yanga Mbwia and these 2 regens were on the transfer list so I couldn't say no. Sturridge left on a free. Yokuslu was with me at Kayserispor. The rest were all lucky tbf. One game left this season, then I will post my stuff.

Nice. Looks like these are the changes:

Change list 13.2.1 (ME 1325)
Further refined engagement of ball player
Toned down speed players can run with ball a little
Slight toning down of run with ball probability
Fine-tuned kick and header accuracy a little further
These changes should help to fix the following issues;
Players dribbling through the middle of the pitch too easily, too often
High number of goals per game
Teams winning games by margins of 5+ goals far too often

Cheers :D

This is the first FM I have been able to tolerate non-league but its turned into a really fun journey.

So harsh getting sacked by Gillingham like that (unless you set it to WIN THE LEAGUE). Took Burton way too far last fm and want to concentrate on it this time (playing as Saints in this one is just no fun)

I haven't been putting future fees on any loans yet, mostly because I never know how much cash I will have/will want to spend at the end of the year. Plus most the people I have loaned have been at the end of their contracts anyway making it a bit simpler to get ;) (and they have usually only been good enough for the league I am in, not really better next one). Might plan to do the loan thing next year though...

The regen guy was tearing up the BSP for 2 years and just got better this year, really hoping he makes the next step up with some Honduran guy I found on a free (20 and a quick striker with good crossing).

The season review for Turkey looked amazing, unbeaten in the league and a quality squad! Stay till you can compete in Europe with them or use it as a good jumping off point to an even bigger club?? (though I am jealous of some of the regen players, they look amazing)

I'm not feeling Turkey anymore, even with the amazing players I have. The 5 (registered for next match) non-Turkish players is really getting to me. It seems like it there just so I can't field my best team. I'm probably going to have to sell someone like Amrabat to actually fit in good players, even if he is quality. I want to go somewhere outside of Europe. I feel that with the 4 trophies I have (1x league, 2x Cup, 1x Super Cup) and a bit of experience in the CL, I can walk into many top European teams (Europa League standard in places like England and Italy) with no problem at all.

I'm looking into Africa, Asia, S. America and N. America, but there are no decent jobs I am interested in. I will start my season, win the Super Cup, and then hopefully find a new job come January.

Seems like a good plan! I had the same thing with the MLS restrictions, on the one had it made it challenging but after a while I wanted to cry with the lack of decent American players.

Should be able to get close to a decent Mexican or South American job with that sort of cv (hopefully) really want to do Mexico one day (and the MLS again) once Bishops Stortford have gone too far...

Yeah I know. Thats why it is fun to just skim 'random' leagues, because of these stupid restrictions! I'll need some help if I decide to go to the USA, as I hear its complicated.
I bought this guy from Napoli a couple of seasons back for around £4-5mil and he's been knocking them in for me ever since. I think by the end of last season he had 34/35 in all Leagues/Comps.

Insigne is good in real life too! He is great in my game too!
I'm loving it guys, but it's a steep learning curve!

Merry xmas by the way!

Merry Christmas to you and all the FM crew (and your families!)

have a good one.

Ah the MLS isn't that complicated, just needs a lot of careful planning (no just buying what you need as you go along). There's a few good guides out there but I am not sure about the changes for this year. It'll be more fun a few years into the game as well when the draft system gets going :D

As Brighton. beat Palace 1-0 away with a 94th minute goal to secure promotion from the Championship....and Glenn Murray got sent off. It doesn't get better than that!
