***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

He got released by City because no manager liked him, waited till August for when all players start to get desperate and said he's 13k as a key player for a year come play :)

Almost shocked he went for it!

With the payments thing it doesn't work if the club doesn't have the money, so if you have 100% of the transfer budget you wont be able to get any more money by spreading the payments (I think). So the per month thing comes out of the club balance but if the balance cannot give you more transfer funds (both currently and from the projection) it wont let you buy them (unless you are portsmouth.... badum tishhhh).

Something like that yes, it's a bit mirky for me too. You can't spend money a month that you wont have but you can spend what you should have (provided there is a good projection)...

I always get confused when it moans at me trying to spread some payments, one of those FM mysteries from my perspective.

As an edit/update: 4 games into the prem and I know its one of those stop now before you get mad. Won 3 and drawn one, beat Fulham 3-2 at home, drew away at Bolton 1-1, beat QPR 2-0 (who are now bottom) and beat West Ham 2-1! :D

Top after 4 games it just brilliant! Especially as I am a quarter of the way to my staying up target... (with a long way to go)

Iv had the phantom transfer thing before, though its never been for anyone important. Last time it happened I shouted and reloaded (only a couple of days before) to try and find out why it happens. No idea though as it fixed its self...

What year are you on?? When I made it to 2020 in fm12 transfers for the best players got really frustratingly unrealistic, so getting some players that improve the team was costing me £90m and I was only able to sell to the computer at half that price (though I did manage to offload some strikers who were no longer doing the business).

£30m on youth is impressive :p

You won't like this but I call shenanigans on this transfer.

Or is FM13 really screwed up? Because in previous version there is no way David Silva would accept 13k a week.

Haha can't blame you :p (though I am in the prem with Bishops Stortford)

Anyway this is his in game history

Has hardly played for years, offer him key player and not a lot of money and most players in this sort of situation turn up. Or they take a lot of money to be rotation and continue to bench warm, but even Wayne Bridge in real life is playing at Brighton so anything can happen ;) (and he's the biggest bench warmer out there)

Does anyone here create their own tactics? I'm a fairly casual player so i have always just downloaded tactics but i've decided to try and create them myself based on the team i have.

So far i've found that nothing works regardless of how talented my team is. Does anyone know of any guides on tactic building aimed at dummies like me?

Always create my own! Downloaded ones tend to be there to exploit the game more than show the football you want to play.

It's always bet to pick a formation and style of play you can win with but that also reflects the squad you have. So I play 4-1-2-2-1 (its 4-3-3- but with proper wingers and an anchor man) because it creates flowing and deadly attacking moves. But I have moulded the team into being good at that (right players and lots of training).

Also it takes AGES for a team to learn a tactic and be effective at it (months like in real life)...

Just started a Notts Forest save and because I've seen on my few games that Spurs ALWAYS sign a bloke named Leonard Kweuke I thought I would have a look...bought him for 3.2M from Sparta Prague and he is worth 7.5M...along side Wellington Nem I think I have a team suitable for straight promotion...

EDIT: Kweuke IS A BEAST!! First game he plays, friendly against AZ he has a hat-trick before half time...

I'v seen him quite a few times this year! He's everything Peter Crouch should be :p

Tried to get him on a free in L1 after being released from Arsenal, he wasn't having any of that...

Seems a bit mad you got him to the champ as the ultimate target man!

Is it me or is player development just obscene in this years version?

Standard of training facilities seems to make a real difference in this one. My decent kids I bought to Bishops Stortford seem to be limited a bit by the poor standard of facilities (and coaching as I haven't tided that up yet), though the Welsh striker has gotten his first goal for Wales.

Some of the regens through by the 6th season are stupidly good though! Most the tops teams have someone who comes under the title of "just too good" which isn't really fair :(

Haha! £25m over 12 moths is very similar to it all up front... :p

You'll be fine after a couple of difficult years in the prem.

Has anyone found the currency randomly changed?? It changed to € for me this morning for no reason which was deeply confusing :(

Ah well strikers need a couple of key things, finishing, first touch, composure and maybe pace (if you can afford it). Other good things to look for are work rate and positioning but they are secondary.

In L1 you should be able to get someone reasonable on 3k a week... Are you searching with the "filter unrealistic targets" thing on? That tends to take reputation far to seriously and can take away decent targets who are a bit desperate.

In L1 really you should look to loan a striker for a season long loan though, better chance of some good stats that need game time to progress, I would search for listed for loan players (again unrealistic things turned off and scout for a while, maybe filter by current wage too as some kids land massive wages that you might be expected to pay some of) as you should be able to come across who you need to go forward.

Urm :D

Great first half of the season, didn't make many christmas signings, tailed off horribly, shouted at everyone and picked it up a bit to finish 11th.

Happy with 11th, Lucas Paizon was really good every so often, David Silva was rubbish (past it), my Welsh regen striker needs a back up, got to 15 goals then couldn't get many more sadly. Got a few good players on the way in, just need another LB, CB and a right winger to compete a bit more next year (whilst I wait for EVERYTHING to be upgraded at the club with a years prem money)

Has anyone got any links to updated badges & kits? :)

I got a kit pack, logo pack and a MASSIVE face pack that weighs in at about 5Gb...

Just found a site called Sortitoutsi for badges, kits etc

Seem to have a decent range http://sortitoutsi.net/downloads/category/86/football-manager-2013-graphics

Bam! Though I used my badges from last year as they are all shiny and covered everywhere in the world. Not sure which one but one of the kit links is really good, has a kits right down to BBS/BSN

He's 31. He's not past it! Who are you? Arsene Wenger? ;)

I don't have FM13 so I guess it must be screwed. There is no way this would have happened in previous versions.

Made it happen plenty of times in previous versions :p

In fact it was more common in FM 10 and before than today..

He was past it though, seriously past it. Released him at the end of the year as he was as about as useful as a dead cat.

What happened to the old save?

Second season in the prem and I have to focus on everyone under 25 to get a chance of doing well this year sadly.

Haha! How are you going to fill a 100k stadium?!!?

Why's that? General fitness reasons?

It's frustrating because I need a few more wise heads to motivate the team (and get consistent results), too many kids and it sort of falls apart a bit, but I can't get anyone who isn't a kid at a reasonable price or ability :(

Have though found a 6"7' brazilian striker who is a tank :D

Seems like this footballer will never play at international level.

Brazilians are all about samba football, not headers :P

But look at him!!! :D

I like to think of him as the Brazilian Peter Crouch, but good...

I see! So you really do need a balanced approach to a successful team. I was wondering what those attributes did. Do coaches with high motivation help?

I was promoted as Salisbury to the Premier bet league! My first ever promotion, although I finished in second place, but won the playoff. I celebrated my win in fine style be resigning :D Even with the promotion I had bugger all transfer and wage budget, although they did decided to build a new stadium! But it was only worth £3.2 million, and not the Azza-tastic £1010100101,0000,00000,000.

I was offered a new job - first time this had happened too, which jumped me up to League 2. So I accepted, and now I'm the manager of Coventry. Now Coventry would appear to be a reasonably wealthy team in this league. They offered me nearly a million pounds to play with, plus a healthy wage budget. I've also been able to employ more staff members AND the board have accepted plans to build and improve training and youth facilities. So providing I can win the league, it looks like I have a decent club finally....

Yep coaches with high motivation and/or man management can help with doing their own jobs.

It's just a pain trying to stay in the prem with just kids... (can happen but harder)

Coventry should be great in L2! Probably not the best playing squad by now but seems like you have plenty of funds for the league and the Richo is a 30k stadium, better than my Bishops Stortford stadium in the prem ;)

It seems on this one clubs are more willing to build new grounds when you get to league football as the new rules require more seating (and its cheaper to build a new one apparently)

I have been scouting him for AGES! The perfect striker at 20, had to make a deal worth £12m for him but he will be perfect competition for my regen welsh striker :)

Got a few others that are quite exciting and should progress better now my facilities are being improved. Also some of my scouts attributes have improved massively just leaving them to scout, got Guly as a scout (a saints player I like in real life) who has turned into a scouting beast after being left to it!

These are the guys I am most excited about so far

Paul Owen is coming along nicely, though in the middle of the season his highest value has been £8.5m so far :D

This guy was £1.4m and should be the CB/DM I desire, mobile and generally effective at getting the ball.

I like Eric, if he was a little more mobile he would be perfect, but he's been good at such a young age and has taken being rotated with Jamal Blackman fairly well.

This guy is the best, cost be £6k! Took 3 months to train him as a central midfielder now he bursts from the middle taking it past everyone and either scores an amazing goal or sets up a tap in. It's really not very often I seem to find such an effective and brilliant little player :)

Haha! That's the worst feeling when you know the squad is not big enough for what you want to do and you have to grind through injuries and play kids to fill up the bench :(

Should have gotten more free guys in to bulk up the squad on year long contracts or loans :p (most teams in lower leagues have to do it, even if its with bad players).

I once had to do with with Blackburn in the last FM that had exactly 14 first team players (after the fire sale of relegation from the prem), loaned everyone and managed to finish 6th on the last day (had 10 games to do it) which was fun :)

Transfer listed for 34M. He will take a wage of 115k/w. Yes or no?

Will he be first choice in any of the 3 positions he plays?

If not no chance!

One thing more than anything else that irritates me is the lack of apparent consistencey between match to match with a single formation. What formations do you find work the best with lower leagues? I've been working on a standard 4-5-1 and I've built it up to reasonably accomplished levels in the most part but I still get totally owned! (This is with my other game as Bournemouth league 1).

4-4-2 lower leagues is always a winner (provided you have a fair balance of players for it).

I can't draw the other good one but 4-1-2-2-1 works (second 2 are wingers far up the pitch), provided you have some pace and crossing to a strong striker that works very well.

Yeah coaches have the same reputation thing as players really, coaches without coaching qualifications are the ones to aim for as they have less of a reputation. :)

Just woke the cat shouting PICK THAT ONE OUT as someone lobbed Loris from 35 yards at home to Spurs :D
