Not sure if its a bug, but on my game whenever I start a new save, if I ask the boardroom to increase the wage budget, they'll always agree to it and normally put at least £100k+ extra into the wage budget even when I'm lowly teams like Hull! I'm not complaining though, because I'm a transfer muppet![]()
Probably no more FM for me.
I improved my team A LOT in comparison to last season, but the results are the same, if not a bit worse.
Its random, there is no pattern. I can play my best or worst players, it won't effect the result. Its pre-determined from the start.
I see now way how I can improve my team, mostly because in my eyes, its worth MUCH more than the 9th place I am now.
As you know, I'm not some new player. I'm played FM 'hardcore' for the last 4 years minimum. I've completed challenges, and put a lot of hours into FM, but this is different. In previous versions, a few good signings will always put you up the table the next season. This season, there is no improvement. I always find that each season, one player just performs badly, ALWAYS. Irrelevant of how much you play him, in position or not, he will never perform. With Sociedad it was Gaitan. With Swansea its Kana-Biyik. Both have very good stats, and they were played in their fave. position, but they only got sub par ratings. Its just not fun anymore, mostly because I just can't see it ending well. I will probably just finish mid table for as long as I play. No miracle will happen, thats for sure.
I agree with most of your points and understand your frustration. I don't understand how FM14 is both 'random' and 'pre-determined' though. Unless you're saying that you think there is a randomly generated pre-determined path (pre-season?) which you think explains how inconsistent/unrealistic the game is when played through? I have always felt that due to the obvious lack of class/brains at SI, that they're akin to cowboy builders, doing what it takes to make it look just about acceptable (apart from their unforgivable default skin designs), but knowing full well that it's full of bodge.
I have never mentioned this before, as I had not tested my theory, but in FM13 whenever I was due to meet a rival, or just play a massive game, I would get a big injury loss almost all of the time. This is not a tested theory by any means, but SI always come across to me as the types who would do this, just because they don't have a clue about making a proper, well-balanced AI which doesn't need these cheats. Because I have this 'SI are clueless' thought going round my head all of the time when playing, I know it's because they have failed to impress me at all with their game.
I don't know how to explain it. It feels to me that it is based more on some complicated algorithm, which gives less importance to your player stats. Yes, I know form, morale, formation, formation familiarity, the attitude of the players (if they perform in big games etc.), if you have your set pieces right, player roles, home/away etc. but surely 50% has to be based on the players' stats. The fact that nearly always the pest team wins the league (in real life) shows that a lot of importance should be put on the attributes.
I might give it a last chance with a narrow formation, some 4-3-1-2. I struggles a lot with wide formations in FM13, but did well with a narrow one. I'll give it a thought.
I've not played it for ages.
I had started 2 separate games as Spurs.
On both occasions, my assistant manager has picked exactly the same teams for pre-season friendlies. Also, clubs are signing the exact same players 2nd time around as they did in my first game save. It's almost as if the game is on rails.
I'm sure it's not but it certainly doesn't have my full confidence at the moment. I won't be rushing back to it in a hurry.
I think the signings might be from a real life shortlist which each club has, so at the start (2013-14) they would always try to sign the same players?
This wouldn't explain the friendlies though.
Sam here. I score a lot, but concead way more. This season its A BIT better.Come on Derby...I have signed some true quality this season (Ravel Morisson, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Kyle Bartley) and my team can't win for love nor money...tried various tactics and the only ones that are half-decent are 4-4-2, 4-1-4-1 or 3-2-2-2-1, but I just can't win, I score goals, but let more in...
Yeah it's always been like this AFAIK.. first season, clubs have players they are interested in.
I came back to this thread to see if the game has been fixed yet (getting tired of the BF4 grind now..), but I guess not.
Could this be the last FM for many vet players?
