******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

Personally I am enjoying this years version of FM very much, the last time I enjoyed it this well was about 2008/2009.

A big thing that I find to help enjoy the game is to install graphical mods and other tweaks like fixing the fake names for competitions into the real ones. Then you can get other skins which people make.

Sadly there is a big downfall on the FM community scene, I owned a few good sites over the years. Throw-in.com and Unbelievable-Jeff.com, the latter still being ran by somebody else and I administrated many other sites in my 10 years on in the FM community.

Basically my advice is visit some of the SI affiliated fan sites. They used to offer great interactivity, not sure about now however.

sortitoutsi, fmscout and fm-base seem to be the main ones, excluding the main SI forum.

Grinded my way through the season. This is how I finished the league.

Same position, 3 points less, 1 goal difference less, and much less goals scored/conceded.

This happened though

Bony was great. 17 goals in the league (top scorer) and 17 in the Europa League (top scorer). 35 overall.

Also, this happened.

I want to stay at Swansea thoug, WITH A FORMATION CHANGE.

If I finish below 6th next season, bye bye FM.

Transfer season.

In:

Tin Jedvaj (Roma) - 2.2M
Guido Pizarro (F/A, Tigres) - Free
Sergi Roberto (F/A, Barcelona) - Free
Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United) - Loan

Out:
Martin Kelly (Liverpool) - 9.25M (Bought for 3.8M from Liverpool 1 year ago)

Pending transfers out:
Bojan (Arsenal, Barcelona, Dortmund) - 18.5M (Bought 1 year ago for 2.2M)
Andre Martins (Southampton) - 10M (Bought for free 1 year ago)
Alejandro Pozuelo (Crystal Palace) - 7.5M (Swansea bought him 2 years ago for 425k)

Then sold a few more players, but not at that much profit.

From these players, I earned 45.25M, and I spent a total of 5.8M for all of them.

I'M IN THE MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYY

finished my 3rd season, finishing mid table in german 2nd division. Sold my star winger for 1.5mil, bought for 600k season earlier, and my other good winger has dropped to 3.5* over the close season. Spent ages looking for replacements this morning, to no avail.

Decided to change formation to 2 Dm's a CM, 2 AMC's and a striker. First two games win 4-2(conceded 2 penalties) and beat 1st ( who were unbeaten for the first 5 games of the season) 3-2.

So, bodes well. have a couple good players coming through the youth team. One who i've had high hopes for since i started this career is breaking through to the first team and I feel proud for every good performance he puts in.

I do have another striker who's potential is to be a star striker in the first division but he's being an ass with regards to a new contract. I've triggered an extension on his contract which has given me an extra year with me. Hopefully to either change his mind by playing him in the first team a lot of to get him sold for a good price.

Wall of text over.

Well...

Victor Valdes retired at 32 :confused:

Basically his contract ran down, I tried to negotiate many times but he was asking too much. I had another stab but the negotiations broke down.

I get the message about the free transfer window coming up so I try to negotiate again (i know free transfer and out of contract are different) he won't talk to me as the last negotiations broke down.

Next thing I know he has retired and become a coach, 2nd season in. Four and a half star keeper, no-one wanted him, wouldn't re-negotiate with me...

:(

Does everyone else usually fine tune each players tactics (Tactics>Player)? (ie. Players with high dribbling rating set to dribble more).

I've done that in my last few games of FM14 but the players obviously got confused.

I'm thinking of giving the game another go just using formations that the specific team are used to.

Same here. I managed to get him for 50k, which I considered too much, so I decided to pull and wait till he end of the season. He retired before it finished.

Transfer season soon ready. Here are my transfers till now.

Swansea_TransfersTransferHistory-2_zps8e3ce4c7.png

I have decided I want one of the following formations as my main formation; 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1

SwanseaCity_TacticsOverview-3_zps8cc0ea9b.png

SwanseaCity_TacticsOverview-2_zps53350606.png

If I go for 4-3-1-2 I need two strikers. I have this guy ready. 8M with around 37k/w wage.

LacinaTraoreacute_OverviewAttributes_zps0743ff56.png

If I decide to play 4-3-2-1 I need two AMCs. I have this guy ready. 3.3M and around 17k/w wage.

Jano_OverviewAttributes_zps00d1535f.png

I still have no ideas for the 'second' player. I can get Eremenko in i want to play with 2 AMCs, or Drogba if I want to play with 2 STs. Eremenko can be had for around 20k/w, and Drogba doesn't want to join me...yet :mad::mad::mad:

I'm not convinced with Jano or Traore. Drogba would be better then Eremenko, but Drogba doesn't want to join yet.

Which would you chose?

I would put Michu up top with Bony and put Britton in Midfield. Michu might require some tweaks but he is more attacking than midfield IMO.

Britton is in midfield. If I out Michu in attack, then I am 1 MC less.

This would be my formation.

Vorm; Nyom, Balanta, Williams, Davies; x, Pizarro, Honda; Januzaj; Traore, Bony
(sureley you are going for 4-3-1-2 no?)

Zabret; Vergini, Jedvaj, Kana-Biyik, Taylor; Britton, Joshua, Roberto; Brandt; Michu, Morata

I looked for a lot of MCs, and they are all quite expensive, or want silly wages I can't afford.

"I have decided I want one of the following formations as my main formation; 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1"

In neither screenie of these formations was Britton in midfield (or on the pitch), and in both Michu is DLP. That is what I was commenting on. IMO Michu is better AMC or ST positions (role to be worked on a bit) than DLP.

I understand. He was in the reserves.

My reserves are arranged in the following way.

S1 = Keeper
S2 = RB
S3 = RCB
S4 = LCB
S5 = LB
S6 = RCM
S7 = CM
S8 = LCM
S9 = AMC
S10 = STR
S11 = STL

Atm, Britton is a reserve, as he is getting a bit old (and slow). I would still be 1 CM down :D

Michu at ST is an option though

Decided to go for 4-3-2-1 with Canales as AMC. Didn't get him cheap though.

Waiting for another job to pop up in my Sunderland save, I was one of the 3 favourites for Arsenal job but someone else got it. My board are only giving me a transfer budget of 8m in my second year back in the prem even though we're making massive profits since I took over.

Currently in 2017/18 season and have Sunderland playing nice short passing game with an awesome Spanish/Argentine attack force - it'll be a shame to leave but I can't remember the last time I played FM with a big budget team.

Bought this for £18 so decided to download an update and use my team and see if I can get them playing better football than the slow paced dross we seem to be serving up regularly! (Wolves)

I got double promotions but couldn't get them playing well in both leagues but I think that's more down to a poor game as they would never listen to instructions.
