**Official Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Discussion Thread**

Just double checking something, better being safe than sorry lol

When you download a bios update from Gigabyte it comes as a zip file, once extracted their are 3 files inside the folder.

When your in Q flash and your looking at the bios folder on your mini flash drive, which of the 3 files do you click to update the bios ? I'd guess the autoexec one but i'd rather play it safe and ask with it being a bios flash. Also does the flash drive you use have to be empty or can you a flash drive that already has other folders on it with files in.

You actually only need the .F14 file and you can enter Q Flash from the BIOS menu. However if you don't do this the other 2 files are to load up Q Flash on it's own and in the menu the only file that will show will be the .F14 rom file.

Thats appreciated Tobes, its one of them, once you know you'll always know how its done.

I presume you can use a flash drive thats already got folders on as your just executing the bios file rather than needing an empty flash drive, its FAT anyway.

Why is it that I keep seeing so many build logs for Hackintoshs based around the Z77X-UD5H & i3770k? Does it have some special features that make it good for this purpose or something else?

F14 seem the most stable one!

There's been a massive time between the F14 and latest F15 beta so yes F14 must be pretty good and stable.
Am a bit surprised the F15 hasn't had a final release yet.

I'm using the latest beta posted on the gigabyte website and all working fine for me. I won't use the beta's found elsewhere, just in case.

Do many of you fellow z77x-ud5h owners run windows 8?
I have decided to move over (or at least give it an extensive try) and was wondering whether there are any known hurdles or quirky going ons between the ud5h and win 8 to watch out for.
Plan on doing a good google trawl when I get back home but hoping you guys might be able to give me a heads up. Obscure or common, it's all appreciated.
I am using the f14 bios.

I had no problems with it at all with f14. All hardware recognised on install except one item off the MB but right clicking it in device manager and "Update Driver" fixed that. If you have SSD run the Windows Experience Index after you installed and it will recognise you have an SSD and set options (e.g. defrag to Trim) for that drive.

I did have problems when running one of the f15 bios's. Windows 8 wouldn't recognise the IGPU only the PCIE one. Going back to f14 fixed this.

ud5 & widows 8 here, 15r beta bios has little handy windows 8 feature in it, turn on to get things going little faster. really liking 15r..

Ive just updated to 15q, the bios screen changes to a nice red logo.

While i'm here, can you downgrade the bios at any point, just say your on 15q, can you drop to F14 if you wanted ?

You have also got the dual bios feature with this motherboard. Switch Bios to the backup one and flash that. Then you can always revert by just flicking the switch on the motherboard. I flashed my main bios to f15 but currently running f14 off the backup bios.

I had a strange problem earlier when i was running on bios F15q, i'm not 100% sure if it was a bios problem but i'll point out what the problem was.

I was installing a new graphics card today which is a 7970, thats pretty straight forward. About 20 mins after i installed the card the computer just went off by itself to a black screen, it just went off instantly, i heard the click from my PSU which always happens on shutdown as Corsair PSU's do that.

Anyway, i started the pc back up without a problem, 5 mins later i got a warning pop up on the system tray saying "A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeds the power limits of its hub. You should disconnect the device". Hmmm whats going on here then, i did 2 things. First i uninstalled the USB hub driver and restarted the PC, windows then installed the driver again. Secondly i switched off the PC and did Q-Flash and flashed the bios back down to version V14.

Touch wood ive not seen this problem since, i never had that problem before V8 which is what i used previously, after that i went to version V14 and again that was fine with no issues, i put F15q on then had these problems today, like i said i'm not 100% it was the bios version thats at fault but its odd i never had these problems before F15q and havn't had them since i went back down to V14. The items i use in the USB ports have always been plugged in there and have never moved, nothing has changed other than switching bios versions.

Ive just read on overclock.net that other people have had issues on F15q like the bios isn't holding the overclock settings, mice and keyboard issues etc. After reading that it sounds like mine could have been a keyboard or mouse issue with F15q, i only have 3 things plugged into the rear USB ports and they are a Logitech keyboard, a Logitech wireless bluetooth dongle for my mouse and my wireless wifi adapter, they have always been plugged in there with no previous issues on the other bios versions, the problems seemed to happen on F15q.
